Will Smith thinks teachers are useless

Will Smith says he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are homeschooling their children because he doesn’t believe in teachers and feels the most valuable things he learned in life he didn’t get from school. He tells Reader’s Digest:

“The date of the Boston Tea Party does not matter. I know how to learn anything I want to learn. I absolutely know that I could learn how to fly the space shuttle because someone else knows how to fly it, and they put it in a book. Give me the book, and I do not need somebody to stand up in front of the class.”

I love Will Smith and all, but I can guarantee you there’s no way he could actually fly a space shuttle after just reading a book. Okay fine, he could get in the cockpit and be in the space shuttle as it was traveling through the air, but I don’t think crashing it into the side of a mountain or straight into New York city should technically count as “flying a space shuttle.” If it does, then he wouldn’t even need the book. Or arms.

Andrea Yates was a homeschooler. just sayin’.

#138 – Yea look back at the May archives, then proceed to the Beyonce thread in August. You’ll see why she has a rectum the size of donut hole. We ran a train on her like the fucking Northeast corridor. But I must say, she is likely not a troll. Appearances can be deceiving, so I don’t blame you for the confusion. We enjoy occassionally fucking with her like a cat does a mouse in a sock. Just trying to stiffen her spine a bit.

Shit, it’s not January… my bad danielle. Your forgiveness and best holiday wishes are requested. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. I want you well rested when we address each other next.

@148- just curious— how is it you KNOW that Will Smith is smarter than I am? Or even nicer, for that matter?
    You know us both intimately?
    Mom?? Is that you?
    Nooo! It is Jesus!
    Hall-ee-looooo-yah!!!!!!

    fucktard.

A, #136 Taylor, apparently your homeschooling has failed you already. Yo mamma forgot to teach you the difference between their, they’re and there. Maybe you need to go over that chapter again hon. Off you go.

It seems like anytime a white person (especially a white man) does or says something crazy in the media, the following is said on this site:
    moron
    asshole
    retard
    dumb ass
The comments are harsh, but directly reflect his behavior.
BUT, A woman or person of color (especially black) does or says
something crazy, the following is said:
    slut
    cunt
    bitch
    whore
    skank
    nigger
    monkey
    reference to their “black ass”
comments about them being put in their place
comments lowering them from the rest of the society because of the color of their skin.

I guarantee if Tom Cruise made the comment, nothing would have been said about his race or the color of his skin. Look, I know what he said was f’ed up and stupid. He has a right to say what he feels, regardless of how dumb it sounds, and not be called a “negro” or other racially demeaning comments because of it. Those of you posting the racist/sexist comments are a shining example of prejudice and the fact that it’s still alive and well.
BTW, home schooling does raise social retards, I know a few myself.

    Will Smith for president!

  9. jesseeca

#148, are you borderline retarded? “Will Smith doesn’t said” that’s how you want to start off your little rant, are you sure?

Anyone know exactly what Will Smith has done to contribute to society? Nothing?? that’s what i thought.

And BFD that he turned down MIT. Who says he wouldn’t have flunked out? He would have to have graduated in order to be smart. To me, turning that down to make some shitty rap albums shows me he’s a real smarty! Please. He hangs out with TC, therefore he’s as dumb as it gets.

    #148 Typhoon.

Perhaps you were looking for Oprah.com. Take a look around you, at the other comments on the other archives. This is THE SUPERFICIAL. I can’t imagine what you were expecting.

  11. PrettyBaby

I wonder if Scientologists celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas? Just wondering. Do they celebrate Xenu’s birth in some way?? What a messed up religion!!

  12. PrettyBaby

#157 Please!! Simmer down, k? Haven’t you ever read the commentary on Tom Cruise that is on here? If I were Cruise, I would rather be called A white asshole or something other than what he is usually called:

    A Crazy, Xenu-worshipping, self-promoting,space ship believing Faggot.

  13. PrettyBaby

    #148 I have to say it…

    (crickets)

    (deafening silence)

  14. Sayonara

that’s stupid. you can say you have no faith in the public education system, but to put down teachers like that so generally is plain stupid.

  15. what a douche.

  16. blogista

This from the guy who once told Barbara Walters in all sincerity that he thought AIDS was created in a lab and spread on purpose by white people to kill black people.

Nope, don’t need school for that kind of logic.

  17. outtatheblue

@ 47 — The MCATs are no joke as well, and I’ve only taken the practice tests.

I agree we’ve got serious problems with our public school system; we learn about things that really don’t matter in everyday life. But to a certain extent, the basic knowledge you gain makes you a well rounded person who is able to fully function in society. Yes, you may not need to know the exact date or year of the Boston Tea Party, but knowing that it did occur and its significance is a basic fact that should be known.

And at an elementary level education, all subjects should be taught. There’s no way a fourth grader knows what he wants to do with his or her entire life. Basic school education creates options.

The problem is that Americans are lazy and don’t care enough to learn things they don’t see immediately benefiting them.

  18. I like basketball.

  19. Xineswish

I guess he wants his kids to grow up to be idiotic, socially awkward weirdos.
And by the way, to all the black people who think everything’s all about race: Stop playing the racial card! It’s so overplayed and ridiculous. YOU’RE the ones who are perpetuating all this racial shit. LET IT GO! Times have changed! You have rights now, you have equality, you have everything white people do.
My ancestors were Irish and were horribly discriminated when they settled in America, but do you see me STILL complaining about that shit? NO, because it’s OVER.
Lets all move on and realize that we’re all equal and it’s not about black or white.

  20. kitty_kat

#169- Don’t you think you’re being just a weeeee bit idealistic? Racial issues are not that simple. And ending slavery on paper does not end on all fronts. Just sayin’…

  21. kitty_kat

    Man! Will is looking OLD!!!

  22. BigJism

    5. He speaks only English, unless you count ebonics as more than a retarded dialect, and turning down a scholarship to MIT, no matter how undeserved, only serves to support the assertion that Will Smith is a fucking moron.

    6. BULLSHIT. Remove your head from the “Fresh Prince’s” rectum, and you will find it easier to form rational thoughts based in reality. Or not, …

    In other news, BJLTC ;^o

  23. BigJism

    171. The only “weeeee bit” on you is your shriveled, smaegma-enveloped clitoris.

    Good day, sir.

    BJLTC ;^o

  24. Moksha

Look at the monkey, ears sticking straight out…how smart can he be?

  25. Will Smith is probably one chromosome away from fighting an uncontrollable urge to pick fleas off of Jada’s scalp.

    Oh yeah, BJLTC ;^o

  26. kitty_kat

#173- No BigJism (are you such a loser and groupie that you couldn’t even find your own name?), the weeee bit was actually referring to the fact that your dick is smaller than a baby’s pinkie. So shut your penis-smelling mouth and go get a semblance of a life, okay? And no, trolling The Superficial and bothering people who weren’t even talking to you doesn’t count…

  27. fxmartini

Will Smith did not turn down an academic scholarship to MIT. Here’s what he says about MIT in the Reader’s Digest interview:

Smith: “My mother, who worked for the School Board of Philadelphia, had a friend who was the admissions officer at MIT. I had pretty high SAT scores and they needed black kids, so I probably could have gotten in. But I had no intention of going to college.”

It’s a long way from this to “he turned down a scholarship to MIT”.

  28. Home schooled children are better educated than the masses on a percentage bases, but what price do they pay? Do they lack in social skills and what is the effect on the children?

{{{{ OK LISTEN TO ME }}}} (BACKING UP WILL)
See.. This is a GOOD once and a while that I look at a miss-informed blog, beholden to a miss-judging blog first person dictator… What I mean by this is that most of you people are wrong. This is because lots of you do not listen to the origional script. Will Smiths Exact Words: ” I would get a book on space flight, and find someone that knows about spaceflight, not a teacher, and learn how to fly a rocket, and would be able to fly…”. The FIRST PERSON that commented on this said: “Will Smith wouldnt be able to learn how to fly a rocket JUST-WITH-A-BOOK. “. This blogger is a common idiot. He did not listen to what Will Smith said. The words “I would get a BOOK, AND!!!!.. A PERSON WHO KNOWS HOW TO FLY A ROCKET”, Went OUT THE WINDOW! with this blogger. Now realize this… And realize that you too are subject to this moronic blog. I am not because I LISTEN.

  31. Although I do agree with Will’s statement for the most part, some kids just learn better in the school environment, just like some kids do better in homeschooling. Personally, I believe homeschooling can allow more room for creativity and motivation skills to grow.
