Tom Cruise speaks about Jett Travolta’s death

January 9th, 2009 // 59 Comments

Tom Cruise stopped by The View yesterday to promote his new film Valkyrie. He ended up speaking about the death of his fellow Scientologist John Travolta’s son Jett, according to People:

“I just don’t have the words for it,” says Cruise. “It’s just horrific. Here you have a man, both of them doting parents, they’re wonderful people and…”
As for speculation that the Travoltas did not seek medical help for Jett, who had a history of seizures, because of their Scientology beliefs, Cruise, also a Scientologist, says the religion does not discourage medical attention.
“That’s just not true,” he says. “They say, ‘Get your physical, get your medication, get your physical illnesses handled.’”

Okay, good. For a minute there I thought Tom Cruise might exploit a horrible tragedy to do PR for the Church of Scientology and openly defend their practices on a national venue. But, c’mon, no one’s that big of a dick.

    @50

i hope you realise the irony of a comment like that.

No-one in that clip had the words for it. They didn’t even know what “it” was.

Tom Cruise is a human being. He has feelings. God loves him. Can’t we all love him, too? The Church of Scientology is an assortment of human beings. An assortment that has feelings.. God loves them. Can’t we all love them, too? F-Off!

Tom Cruise doesn’t think he’s a human being. As an OT Scientology cult member TC believes he is super human or as Hubbard put it a “homo novus” http://www.holysmoke.org/cos/scientology-lies-and-deceives.htm

The CULT of scientology will mess your mind up. Look at Tom Cruise he believes he can telepathically communicate with the souls or dead aliens (Body Thetans). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_thetan

  5. Very unfortunate Scietologist or not.

  6. If I have learned one thing in the 25 years of scientology. It is that people cannot understand an OT like Tom Criuse because he is evolved further beyond Homo-Sapien, and has become a Homo-Novus. L Ron Hubbard teaches us that once we become Clear and above, we are superior to all other humans. We have almost super human abilities over MEST.

Tom Cruise, and other high level scientologists like myself are not concerned with what an underdeveloped, and underevovled world has to say. We are above you. Your laws, and restrictions do not apply to Homo-Novus. We are superior in every way.

Tom Cruise has spent more than 20 years spending an ENORMOUS amount of time, energy & money attempting to control every detail of the public’s perception of him. Not his ACTING, which should be the only thing that matters. And his acting WOULD be the only thing that mattered to anyone, if his efforts to create a picture of his private life, and his religion, and even stuff like supposedly doing all his own stunts in his movies (this is a perfect example: probably because Jackie Chan is the most famous movie star in the world and is so admired for doing his own stunt work, TC decided at some point that he wanted a reputation for doing likewise added to the Tom Cruise Mythology. Watch the ‘behind the scenes’ mini-documentary on the Mission Impossible 2 DvD. Of course he can’t come right out and SAY he did his own stunts because he didn’t~guys like Tom Cruise are not allowed to do incredibly dangerous things on movie sets, hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake, he is insured and all that but if he dies or gets hurt, a great many people still stand to lose a ton of dough. But he does everything he can to IMPLY that it was him scaling those humungous rocks in Utah and so forth~he even got his stand-in, a rock climbing expert that at a distance is a dead ringer for Tom Cruise, to come across in the interview like he was more of a ‘coach’ than a stunt man, that TC became an expert rock climber instantly and that nothing was done digitally to make the heights look greater than they were.)

That is just the tip of the iceberg, of course.

People who get so panicked when comments are made about TC suggesting that he’s a joke don’t seem to understand that he got away with micromanaging every little detail of his continuing ‘biography’ for YEARS without getting any shit for it from anyone. They don’t get that it would be impossible to find someone else in the public eye who has gone to the lengths TC has to create a life story for himself that began to seem more and more like BS as time went on. They don’t seem to see that, had he not put so much of his ‘truth’ into the public domain, and had it not started to to seem sort of staged, and had he not began behaving as if he were an authority on certain issues and giving unsolicited opinions on other people’s life choices, no one would have said anything.
In other words, if he had behaved like his acting were the only thing in his life that is relevant to the public, he would have been treated that way. Instead, he did things like make his engagement/marriage/having a baby with Katie Holmes into about a million times more of a public event than it would have been already. And there was something about it that didn’t seem real~it seemed staged. As staged as it seemed back when Rosie O’Donnel used to go on and on on her talk show about having a big crush on him. That seemed fake(I wonder why),as did his appearances on her show, as did his marriage to Nicole Kidman, but by the time the whole TomKat phenomenon got created, he and the people he employs to pull this stuff off were clearly desperate, and it showed.
He could have kept his private life (relatively) private rather than amping up the PR voltage every time he had something new he wanted to hide, and some people could see that, and other people want to believe the illusion as bad as he wants to present that illusion. Do I care that Tom Cruise is( very very likely) gay? No, I think that’s fine. I hope that everyone involved in his (probably) sham marriages got or is getting what they want out of the situation. And I’m sorry that some people can’t see the desperate, phony energy that surrounds his relationship with the media and the public, and that it upsets them so when the rest of us joke about it. But it’s funny as hell, and we’re gonna joke about it.
I even think he looks good in the pea coat ensemble~but not particularly heterosexual, if that’s what he was going for.
He could have expressed sympathy to the Travoltas vis-a-vis the death of their son without using it as a platform to defend Scientology. If he’s so concerned about what people think, that would have scored him plenty of points. It’s not like I’m suggesting that he come out of the closet to make room for more clothes.
Oh, and as far as having talked current events with him on a street corner, well, that’s just hilarious. If you don’t understand why I can’t even begin to imagine how to explain it to you.

  9. It is a sad situation. A family just lost their child. For people to chat and message when people send hate facts are interpreted is just sick. Tom choked up about it as anyone’s. A parent or anyone out there could explain how the pain of losing the baby? In response to # 4. Chinese Honeybiscuits, you saw the scene, they questioned him because he is a good friend of Travolta. He answered pretty well I might say. Travolta and Cruise have to stop bashing prey.
