Hey, guys, going to close up shop for the holiday weekend, but don’t worry, we’ll be rising again on Monday chock full o’ booze and Cadbury eggs. In the meantime, here’s Miranda Kerr in the latest Victoria’s Secret ad campaign which somehow represents Easter. I think. Back me up, Jesus.

Reasonably pretty, otherwise unimpressive.
NOTE TO SUPERFICIAL EDITOR: Get off your fat ass and post some updates already. And by that I mean just post pictures. No one with half a brain is interested in your desperate attempts to be funny.
NOTE TO DOUCHE MILDRED: Get off your fat ass and hit the treadmill. And by that I mean widen your doorways. No one with half a brain is interested in your desperate attempts to be funny.
I find her very strange looking…..
#96- I believe that #65 is trying to get a rise out of anyone who’ll listen. (again, pun intended) And perhaps rightly so. Thus bringing us to what I believe is actually the point- you believe there is a God. Many others don’t, and are tired of conversations where it is presupposed that God is real. Atheists (and others) are CONSTANTLY bombarded with Christian views, and sometimes they must lash out at what they perceive as the ridiculousness and hypocrisy of many rote Christians.
One quote from you -
“Has this caused you to blame God? Or has it fucked with your mind so that you think that *surely* there *can’t* be a God because *how could God EVER do this to me! Life is so hard! sniff sniff” Hmmm…this seems to be the case for you.”
This illustrates my point. You purport that #65′s life revolves around God, or the absence thereof. You also couch your argument on the assumption that God is real. Atheists don’t believe that. Maybe #65 has never believed, and doesn’t ever want to.
Further, you say:
“Debate and discussion is wonderful…that is of course until someone starts saying things that are hurtful and not at all gainful.”- however, your responses DO seem designed specifically to be hurtful to #65. So you are not above this hurtful action, either. (and further, you do actually sound in your response like you are scolding #65 to accept the tenets of Christianity…)
To quote you again:
“Oh, and your misogynistic rants—it’s called a history book. Read it. God didn’t say to treat women like crap. That’s how people lived back then. God’s intent wasn’t to change cultures and societies traditions…it was to leave an impact through basic principles…some not to be take literally.”
To me, this doesn’t sound like you want #65 to read a history book, it sounds like you want #65 to read the BIBLE. Those are two very different things.
And yes, I agree with you, I don’t believe the Bible WAS meant to be taken literally- I believe it was, as you allude, designed to keep humans in line.
But many Christians disagree here- and that is a large part of the problem.
They believe in following the Bible to the letter. And that IS misogynist.
And, please remember, GOD did not write the Bible. Man wrote the Bible.
This then brings us to Bush; his delusions, and the war in Iraq, where I’m afraid it is YOU who need to find a history book and read it. “Newsweek” is the “USA Today” of news magazines. Myopic and superficial. Just for kicks, please try the International Herald Tribune or even the Christian Science Monitor, for that matter…
Bush remains a very dangerous (and quite possibly insane) man.
#105 All valid, good points. I’ll take them to heart in other discussions. However, I really don’t need a history book since I’m a historian–I’ve got plenty. In recent polls (yes, even on CNN), most people find Bush to be a decent human being. Most people believe that he honestly thought that he was doing the right thing. We all know now that he didn’t do the right thing (whether consciously or not). I seriously doubt he is a threat. Come on…we all know that. His damage has already been done…he’ll spend the rest of his days on his Texas ranch. Moving forward…
Also, when it comes to #65 and how he approaches Christianity, it leads a normal person to assume that he once had some kind of a relationship with God that changed. Something happened to make him so bitter about Christians. Muslims had done plenty to make me angry, but I would never in my life say something so hurtful about Allah which I know means so much to them. Normal athiests (and once who were raised atheist) do not say such things that are so…unconvincing. Do you understand what I’m saying? Most athiests at least try to sway with reason, like many logical Christians. Of course, I have no way of knowing #65 or anything about his life, so I’ll leave it alone.
#106-
We will have to agree to disagree about Bush.
I guess I am not “most people”.
I also surmise from your comment about #65 that I am not a “normal” person.
But yes, you do have a point; no one is more “anti” something than one who has given that very thing up.
