that being said, I do think she knew on some level that it was wrong to be in the ministry and have 24kt plated faucets and an air-conditioned dog house no matter how huge her sense of entitlement was. I think she ended up being sorry for that but I wonder if she would have sorry if Jim never got caught…..

People defend her as if she were some type of retarded innocent. She’s neither. She stuck with Bakker not just during the PTL heyday, but 5 full years after the evidence of swindling was presented, railing with him against the “conspirators” looking to take them down (and ignoring the families they ruined). Then she divorced him and married Messner, who built churches for PTL and spent 2 years in jail on bankruptcy fraud charges. Women who smile sweetly and say “I guess I’m just attracted to the wrong type of guy!” should be shot. There’s being taken advantage of, and then there’s purposeful ignorance and avoidance. I know she didn’t die of cancer of the guts because she never had any.

This is very sad. She battled this cancer for over 10 years before doctor’s gave up on trying to treat it. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family at this time.

And shame on all of you who have said nasty things about her. Yeah, her husband ripped off thousands of people, but she was more a victim than anybody. I know she’s in a better place now.

You may not like Tammy Faye and you may even hate her, but any form of cancer is a horrible way to die.

That does not mean that we should all come together and sing Kumbya for her or offer prayers for her after life, but suffering through any kind of cancer truly sucks. I know that at least a few of you have had cancer affect you first hand, so just try to be a little civil to someone who died in so much pain.

If it were Warren Zevon we were talking about her, not too many people would wish him to ‘rot in hell’.

#37 I think you captured her charm exactly. She was the original wacky christian (OWC). I think her biggest flaw was that she didn’t see how nasty the “christians” around her truly were. I’m not talking about the stealing. everyone who has made fun of this poor woman’s death should be ashamed. she endured a lot in her life-time and doesn’t deserve to be disrespected. unlike most “christians” you see and hear on tv, Tammy Faye was the real deal and a true example of what a real Christian should be. I’m not sure that I always agree with the idea “Never speak ill of the dead.” There are plenty of people I can think (historical/political/celebrity figures and personal acquaintances alike) whose ill-service to humanity lasts beyond death. To speak well of them seems hypocritical, and to say nothing might allow for their deeds to be exacerbated or repeated.

THAT SAID, I don’t feel it applies to Tammy Faye. I do think that any part she may have had in the PTL scandal she paid for and more. She stayed strong, unbowed and she kept her sense of humor to the end. If some think she used people, well I think she was more bitterly used than she ever used anyone else. I hope she finds peace.

Tammy Faye did what exactly to repay all the millions? What restitution did she perform? None. They acted as though they were entitled to that rich and famous lifestyle, at other peoples expense. Until they were caught, of course. I suppose her pity party, tears ruining her mascara and make-up was how she “paid and more”.
