Steve Irwin didn’t die instantly, didn’t piss off stingray

Steve Irwin’s death was caught on camera and the tape shows him pulling the stingray barb out of his chest before dying. It also shows that, unlike his behavior with crocodiles and other dangerous land animals, he didn’t provoke the stingray.

“It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here (in the chest), and he pulled it out and the next minute he’s gone,” Stainton told reporters in the Queensland state city of Cairns, where Irwin’s body was taken for an autopsy. “If ever he was going to go, we always said it was going to be the ocean,” Stainton said. “On land he was agile, quick-thinking, quick-moving and the ocean puts another element there that you have no control over.”

The actual tape is being held by police at the moment, but I’m not sure it’s something anybody would actually want to see. Joking about shooting Paris Hilton in the face with a bazooka is one thing, actually watching a beloved conservationist die in the water is another.

  1. BoognishRising

    Ignore the troll.

  2. GirlyGirl

Right on, #50. What a moron. Learning about wildlife is important, just as learning to spell is important. In a lot of cases, holding animals in captivity is wrong and I myself have mixed feelings about zoos, but on the other hand – this bears repeating – education is important. So why don’t you go get one, Cruzadas! We can’t all just wander around this planet with our heads up our asses not worrying about anyone or anything but ourselves. Calous idiot.

  3. cardio

#52 – learning to spell is important? It’s spelled “callous”. Idiot.

  4. Jayvee

#44 The world will go on with or without you, you sorry ignorant fucks.

As it will with or without Steve Irwin, or infact anyone. It’s one thing to mourn Steve (as I am doing) but then another to bring down other people and somehow put Steve up on a pedastal. Life goes on.

  5. jonesy

    Khaki shirt? Check.
    Plastic ray? Check.

I’ve got my Halloween costume set to go!

  6. Cruzadas

Spelling!? AHAHAHAH You Steve ass lickers are so retarded, that you don’t even know when a person is not an english speaking native. But you know what? “hiere, howw abaut dis fur a misspelling?” I simply care as much about spelling as I care about you, you dumb fucks! But I care even less about Irwin!

Oh, and please be kind to point my spelling mistakes, you little spelling bitches!

  7. Mike

    Cardio. STFUDick.
Cruzadas, “non-english speaking native”??? is not an excuse for being ingnorant.

  8. tundrababe

What a tragedy. He was a real friend to animals and lived his life with so much passion and joy. Not a cynical bone in his body. He accomplished so much in his life on earth.

I can’t believe some of the nasty comments. There’s nothing worse than an asshole with schadenfreude.

  9. lisad71

This sucks. He was one of the good ones that actually gave a crap about animals. Not like Herpes Hilton that uses them as a fashion accessory than probably disposes of them like a used tampon. See you on the other side, Steve. Crikey!

  10. PoponarJegos

Wow, cruzadas, you are utterly amazing. You blow me away with your ignorance. What Steve Irwin did was called research, you fucking moron. That how books get written, that’s how knowledge gets distributed. He took risks for the sake of gaining knowledge. To quote your stupidity:

“Leave those wild animals alone, like they want to be, and leave them in their habitat, where they want to be! Unless of course, that makes you rich, ain’t that right steve irwin?”

Are you seriously retarded? Looks like you haven’t been doing your reading, my dear. He donated most of his time and money to animal habitat conservation and set up several charities for the cause. Get informed before you talk. Your ignorance is quite amusing, really.

  11. PoponarJegos

And one more thing, Cruzadas: your words are as hollow as your head. Fucking idiot.

  12. snakey

Cruzadas, need a panadol for the shit that you typed. As the saying goes, if you got nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all.

RIP Steve, you were a trully genuine guy who inspired my children and I. We will saddly miss you.

  13. libtard

#28…….. So saying that someone is a dumbass means that they are not “striving for achievement in life”? And that you wouldn’t be surprised if no one attended said party’s funeral.

    Speaking of dumbasses.

  14. its me

    Dearest Cruzadas,

“English speaking native”, use a friggin dictionary to look up your mistakes. This is not Speak and Spell.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are under 18 with very bad skin and you lost your one brain cell when you masturbated it out over the fake drawing of Lindsay Lohans vagina.

    See how everyone

  15. PunjabPete

45 – Get over yourself. Humor in the face of tragedy is always a good idea. Not like I said anything derogatory about him. Besides, his penchant for jabbing a digit into the innards of unsespecting reptiles was downright hilarious and a great memory. His “Crikeys”, “flat out like a lizard drinkings”, and “Shes a Beauty”s were all part of his charismatic personality.

You remember him your own way. If that is moaning and whining on a blog, so be it. I am gonna crack a joke and then jack my finger in a cloaca… To each their own…

  16. Cruzadas

    Calm down kids.

Irwin is going nowhere, don’t worry.

Crocs, it’s now legal for you you eat Irwin’s little kids, as well as his wife. If they keep annoying you like the hunter did of course.

Oh, and about the spelling shit: I’ll start writing correctly when you english gurus start speaking 10% of any latin language like I do (french, spanish, italian, portuguese). Just pick one. Then we’ll have a competition that if I win, I get to screw your ass with a stingray tail.

Oh, and one more thing: screw all of you hunters lovers, and screw you Irwin. May you rot in a lake full of crocs.

  17. PoponarJegos

You’re funny, Cruzadas. Funny in a retarded way. I’m fluent in Romanian and English. I’m becoming fluent in Spanish and I understand French. So please don’t give me any of that shit, alright? You’re nothing. Stop posting your bs on here because it’s worthless.

  18. PunjabPete

    Come on now… CLOACA… CLOACA?

  19. tati

i’m so proud of you, being caring about such a delicate theme such as the death of someone so passionate about his work and life. good for you. :)

  20. Satanista

I just had to say, I’m so glad you refrained from making light of this story. He’s going to be hugely missed by everyone with an ounce of compassion and respect for him and his life’s work. I hope his family are able to draw comfort from the amazing outpouring of love and support from around the world – I only wish it could bring him back.

Now please, mock some waste-of-space starlet s’more so I feel less depressed. If you can get hold of Paris’ mugshot, you’ll be a hero.

  21. ironic? yes. suprising? not really, knowing the way he lived his life. but he lived the way he wanted and was very devoted to the things he loved. nothing wrong with that, just sad to see him go so soon. personally, i hope i go out doing something i love, though i’m sure my mother won’t be real proud when i’m found dead on top of a hooker.

  22. MediaGrrl

a friend of mine interviewed both Steve and Terri in Atlanta 2 years ago, unbeknownst to me. I did say to her how strangely sad I was, kind of like, I know the guy’s job meant he was aking for it, but how sad, especially for his kids. She told me that they were an amazing twosome, so especially nice (and she sees a lot of celebs at the end of their press tour, beaten down and rude) and while, yes, they are not the coolest kids at the school, they were lovely, friendly, a team, and so committed to their causes.
I feel bad for the whole thing, “what he wanted” or not.

  23. EveryoneLovesAnIrishGirl

OK when I saw this post I thought you were going to be making fun of him and I seriously considered never coming back to this site ever again. But I thank you for being respectful and tactfull.

Also it’s a little late, but to #19, cardio, you are a bitch. Flat out. He was NOT a dumbass. He knew what he was doing, and this was a freak, flukey accident. He didn’t intentionally leave his wife helpless, and I think she has enough money to support, even though that’s not the only important thing. Show some respect! Can you honestly tell me you love your job as much as he did? He got the most out of life, while you’re just sitting here at the fucking computer pretending to be better than him! Well take off your tiara and tutu and look in the mirror: Are you as lovable as he? Did you make important discoveries in the natural world? Did you make millions of kids happy? Did you provide them with educational entertainment? I think I’ve said enough, and I think everyone agrees with me. He was awesome. AMAZING. One of the greatest people on television. You deserve a swift kick in the groin for saying that.

    RIP STEVE!

  24. melady2952

My condolences to his family. What a devastating thing! I swam with stingrays in the Bahamas and now, despite how rare it is, I will never swim with them again. Rest in Peace Steve Irwin!

  25. Amy3000

First of All…to any of you making jokes and smart-ass remarks about this tradgedy, shame on you. Steve Irwin was a remarkable man who dedicated his life to the conservation of animals and thier habitats, and he said himself in numerous interviews that he knew he would die the way he lived. While I am by no means happy that he is no longer with us, I take comfort in the fact that he went the way he wanted to. Even Mr.Irwin knew the dangers of shooting in water…on land he was in his element, able to outmaneuver (spelled wrong?) almost any snake or croc…but in the water, your reflexes and reaction times are severely hindered. This was a great man, he was energetic, charismatic, intelligent and gentle. My sincerest condolences go out to the family he leaves behind, I truly hope they are able to draw strength from the legacy he has created and from the legions of fans who offer love and support.
R.I.P Steve, we know you’re ‘wrasslin crocs up in heaven!

  26. Amy3000

Oh yeah, and as for you #49…you make me sick…whether or not you were a fan of his shouldn’t matter. He was a human being and he bled red blood just like you, he had a wife and children and parents and friends. Try doing your homework before opening your pie-hole, he didnt ‘hunt’ them…he was a dedicated conservationalist (oh, Im sorry..too big a word for your tiny brain to comprehend?) and would never have intentionally hurt a living creature. I sincerely hope when you die, that someone as distasteful as you are is there to stand up at your funeral and talk about what a moronic douchebag you were :)

  27. EveryoneLovesAnIrishGirl

    Here, here, #75 & 76,
49 is an asswipe. He never hurt any animal, intentionally or unintentionally. You’re a dumbass. He didn’t do it to get rich. You don’t think he didn’t do this before the show? You have to do it your ENTIRE LIFE to have the experiance he did. And he opened up the zoo to help CHILDREN LEARN. Not for entertainment only, but for LEARNING and reasearch. Not testing, RESEARCH. And when he got animals from the wild, he usually brought a small family at a time, and it’s not tragically ripping them away, animals aren’t really family orientated, unless you count Babe the talking pig. And while you sit there contemplating how did they make that darned pig talk, absentmindedly pick up the hair dryer and fall into the tub.

  28. I don’t like ANIMAL’Show but i knew who was that fearless guy.
You can not pass your life tryin to fool animal, playing with them like they would be sweet sleepy baby.
    He got fucked.
    I’m Honestly sorry for him.*_*

  29. sarakai

number 49, you are a cocksucker, seriously. Have you ever even watched steve’s show, have you ever actually listened to what he says? The animals he takes out of their habitats are taken because they’re in danger from predators, hunters or habitat destruction… and he doesn’t take them all back to his zoo, he re-releases them into safer areas. That’s what a conservationist does- conserves the environment, derr! The animals he does take back are ones that can not be re-released or that have been born and raised in the zoo. And also, smartass, the reason why he feeds the crocs the way he does is not to be an exhibitionist but to keep some sense of animalistic hunting behaviour in the crocs life while educating the visitors and people around him. And do you know what steve spends all his money on? He spends it on land, which is to be left untouched and unspoilt in an attempt to CONSERVE our planet. So suck it asswipe

  30. well, he definitely pissed it off….otherwise it wouldn’t have stabbed him
