Sarah Palin is gosh-darn adorable a don’tcha know

October 3rd, 2008 // 408 Comments

Last night the Vice Presidential Debate took place between Republican Governor Sarah Palin and Democratic Senator Joe Biden. If you don’t know who these people are, please engage in activities with a high risk of infertility. Anyway, consider this post an open thread/romper room to get your politics on and sound off about the debate. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to salvage my eardrums which feel like they’ve been raped by Marge Gunderson from Fargo.

Oh, and who do I think won? How about I answer a completely different question instead? Waffles.*

*Didn’t get the joke? Don’t worry; I’ll post about Britney soon.

    25. Horrified & Bewildered – October 3, 2008 9:27 AM

Still trying to figure out how someone as dumb as SP ended up on the Republican ticket.

Because SP caters to the religious zealots/evangelicals in the States, which might equal to half your registered voters. Every country has great people, like you have in the States. But, the fanatical religious freaks are running your country into the ground. All my best. I thought the Dems had the Reps by the huevos last time. Do it right this time . . . please?!

  2. Canadian brotha looking in with interest: like watching a train wreck

    Number 300:

    Are you French?

Who argues like that? Perhaps you don’t live close enough to French people to realize they’ve done nothing wrong. Perhaps SP can give you a lesson on foreign relations.

We were taliking just this morning down on Main Street aboout what a darn shame it is that she’s such a moose-for-brains. You betcha!

How are things working for you up in Canada brother? I guess it is not since you all have to come to the US to get jobs. Where would Canada be if we were not her neighbor? You know you cant defend yourself. Do us all a favor and just keep being the red-headed step son sucking off of our economy.

  5. Hussein Obama

While I’d like to say that Biden won the debate, I just can’t get that white meat off of my mind. Aw hell, I’m not even voting for me.

You are spouting Republican rhetoric. If you make more then you should pay more taxes and you will still have more money than the person that makes less that 250,000 a year and pays less taxes.

You think that by withdrawing it means holding up the white flag! How about US withdraws from Iraq because it is the right strategical thing to do. This war cannot be won when you have Shites, Sunnis, and Kurds fighting each other. How about saving American lifes and saving the US 350 million dollars a day. I have my own small IT company and I have no problem paying higher taxes because I make more money. I am a proud humantarian and donate happily to my favorite charities.

  7. Was that Sarah's answer, or Trig's?

My favorite, in response to the question about Cheney’s belief that the vice president’s office straddles the executive and legislative branches of the federal government:

“Well, our founding fathers were very wise there in allowing through the Constitution much flexibility there in the office of the vice president. And we will do what is best for the American people in tapping into that position and ushering in an agenda that is supportive and cooperative with the president’s agenda in that position. Yeah, so I do agree with him that we have a lot of flexibility in there, and we’ll do what we have to do to administer very appropriately the plans that are needed for this nation. And it is my executive experience that is partly to be attributed to my pick as V.P. with McCain, not only as a governor, but earlier on as a mayor, as an oil and gas regulator, as a business owner. It is those years of experience on an executive level that will be put to good use in the White House also.”

I was disgusted to read in the Alaskan newspapers about what Palin did when she went into early labor with her son, Trig, while in Texas. She was leaking amniotic fluid (a condition that risks infection and the life of the unborn child), but refused to go to hospital because she wanted to give her speech. After giving her speech, she and her husband, Todd, boarded a plane and made the long flight home so that their child could be born of “Alaskan soil.” Upon arriving in Alaska she went to the hospital, whereupon full labor was induced. (This is always the case when there is rupturing and early labor with this phase of pregnancy.) Something is definitely wrong with this woman. I would cut my right arm off before I would risk the life or well being of my unborn child in such a manner. Is this a Christian woman and mother? Do politics and ego come before the safety of her own family? She is not who she pretends to be.

  9. Just Say No

The debate proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that Palin is a real person who has folksy charm, confidence and personality, but little or no substance. She avoided so many questions and needed so much help from her cheat sheets to give scripted answers, it was an insult to American viewers. She lost my vote. My message to Palin is this: Give the lower 48 taxpayers back the money you stole from them for your “bridge to nowhere” mismanagement and misappropriation. We don’t need more any more Fannie & Freddies. Go home, please.

  10. Cynthia The Dumb

    #306

You need to find all the people that make less than you and give them enough of your money so that all of you have the same amount. That is the stance you are taking. That is stupid. You are just jealous of those that have more than you. The people that have more than you pay more taxes than you. You just want them to pay more so can get some of their money. You are the reason so many companies are now heading their companies over seas. It is cheaper. So they leave and so does those jobs. I am one of the American lifes you are speaking of. I know personally about Iraq. I have been there. I dont have to listen to the lies of the main media. It sadens me that you are the type of person I am fighting for.

  11. Canada the Slow

    #302

Do you know any history. When the Germans came into Paris the French surrendered. Wait, do you have history books in Canada or just snow.

  12. Your Mom

So here’s the deal, I’m a democrat to the core, but Palin kicked Biden’s unconvincing ASS last night! I was both pissed and surprised. Don’t get me wrong, I still hate the cunt and hope she a moose steps on her throat. It’s even more angering when someone you hate can pull you in with her charisma and actually make you listen to what she has to say, and then question your own views. I was always for universal health care, but she made a good point last night. Do we really want government mandated health care? Has our government ever handled ANYTHING properly? No, they haven’t, which is really fun to hear coming from someone who’s part of it. But would I be satisfied by a $5000 tax credit for families so they can get their own? No! I don’t have a family. I have way too much sense to start popping kids out like I’m a fucking PEZ dispenser, so I probably wouldn’t get any healthcare. I have insurance through work for the first time ever and I’m truly grateful that I do because before yesterday (my benefits kicked in on Wednesday), I hadn’t been to the doctor since I was in college and still on my mother’s insurance (3 years). That’s a long time to not know if there’s something seriously wrong with you.

Anyhoozle, back to the debate…I never thought Biden was a good choice for Obama. I was for Hillary and considered voting for McCain after Obama won the candidacy, but what kind of person goes against their party? I would sooner not vote, but then realized that Obama and Clinton have almost entirely the same views, so people who switch over to McCain are douche-nozzles for going against their party. It’s one thing to actually like the other party’s politics more than your own, but voting for someone just to spite the other party is ridiculous and insulting to this entire country. Obama should have picked Clinton as his VP, it would’ve been a slam-dunk into the office, but you know she’d have him taken out within the first year, so I don’t really blame him for not picking her, but Biden? Really? This guy isn’t even well liked by actual democrats or people from Delaware (like anyone really gives a shit about Delaware anyway). Even though he made a lot of good points, I just think he wasn’t very convincing. He didn’t connect with anyone, though he sure did try! “I want this for single dad’s blah blah blah.” What is that? Single dad’s? That’s who you want to connect with? Really? Palin really got him beat there. She connected with group after group, practically never stumbled over her words and was extremely passionate. She was also contradictory and hypocritical (how can she get after Biden for bringing up the past and then go on to say “If you look at his track record over the last 25 years…” that’s what politicians do!!! The past is important for showing the possibilities of the future!) at times.

I think the bottom line here is that no matter who wins, we’re fucked.

  13. Anon

Did you people miss Palin’s comment on how she wants more power as Vice President, including the power over the Senate? Given Palin’s rather weird statement, she would interpret the Constitution as giving both she and McCain unlimited power over Congress. It’s called totalitarianism. No wonder she’s trying to block the investigation in Alaska. And no wonder many people are beginning to question her secrecy, her lack of “open government” in Alaska, her efforts to have those who don’t support her fired, and appointing unqualified friends to highly paid positions. This is corruption.

  14. I read news papers

    #308

Wow. Gov Palin allowed had an Alaskan newspaper reporter with her? Did Gov Palin give an interview stating this as fact? Prob not. It is just hear-say. The papers get away with it but not our court system. Why, because hear-say is nothing but rumors. BTW, I just wrote in an Alaskan paper that the President of Mars had dinner at my house. I bet if you read that you would believe it too.

  15. 311…
Indeed we do have history books in Canada…
    and about the war…

Canada declared war on Germany in 1939. Yep, that’s 1939…and lost 45,000 troops.

  16. I voted for Bush and now I'm Voting for Obama

    #312

lol! If you think Palin kicked Bidens ass then you have been smoking some really good chronic while drinking shots of the hard stuff!

You are falling for Republican lies. McCains health insurance plan means to privitize health care by forcing Americans to pay 5,000 for health insurance with no guarantee of proper health care. Obama’s plan is to provide government health insurance for those who do not have it as well as allowing Americans to continue with their current health plan if they choose to. Government health insurance will help prevent the corruption like the deregulated banking industry. I’m voting based on policies and not emotions and this is why I’m voting for Obama.

  17. Canada

    # 315

Canada was a British Colony in 1939 and when Britain declared war on Germany, Canada was officially at war. They did not declare war until after they were already at war. I know more about your history than you do.

  18. Confused and Voting

    #316

Please list some policies that Obama is staying the course for. He only says what those in front of him want to hear. He is an elitist and a socialist. This country will fall apart if that community organizer is elected.

  19. Biden the Lier

List of lies stated by Biden in the debate:

    1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

    2. AHMADINEJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

    3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

    4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

    5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

    6. ALTERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

    7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

    8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

    9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

    10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

    11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

    12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

    13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

    14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

  20. John McCain HQ

    My fellow republicans:
I promise that if I am elected, Sarah Palin will personally come to your house and blow you.
If you are female, don’t feel left out, she is secretly a carpet muncher as well.

This is the ONLY reason I nominated her for VP. And Mr. six-pack, you know this. This why she mentioned you by name last night.

I am John McCain and I have approved this message.

P.S. Barack can suck my cock….hey, that rhymes. I might add a new verse to “Bomb, Bomb Bomb…Bomb bomb Iran”

You poor misguided person buying into Republican lies.

  25. Kill Hollywood

You people come off sounding dumber than a bag of hammers. I can’t stand arguing over the internet. That’s about as retarded as Palin’s son. Yep that’s what I said, cry about it. Also I’m not at all impressed with either of these tickets. McCain is like Bush light with one foot in the grave and Obama’s half black, whoopedy doo. Just cause he’s half black I’m supposed to believe he will “bring change”? Biden’s only there to give Obama some Washington “cred” and Palin is excrutiatingly painful to watch. Not like it matters because VPs don’t do anything anyways. It makes no difference who wins because this country is royally screwed either way, things are only getting worse.

This information was reported in a number of Alaksan newspapers and was confirmed, and quoted, by Palin, herself. Do your research!

  28. LeanneMarie

The only reason she exceeeded people’s expectations is because she didn’t have a huge meltdown on stage. She didn’t answer questions, and even changed the subject at times. Her answers were completely memorized from her crash course boot camp. “Oh man, it’s so obvious I’m not a Washington insider.” Really? What gave you that idea?! Now, it’s cool that she wants to talk to America on a personal level because she’s one of us, but when she uses the words “Joe Six-Pack American,” I feel like she’s calling us all rednecks. Can you picture her going to foreign countries to meet with leaders? “Can I call you Nick?” Disaster! Fresh face? Who cares! I felt like she was coming on to me when she winked! This isn’t a high school debate. This is SECOND IN COMMAND, and she’s not taking it seriously.

  29. UpChuck

Who to vote for? A war hero with a quarter century of experience and a woman who led the state of Alaska. Or a senator with a little experience who sat in a church that spewed racism against white people for twenty years and another senator that stated his running mate was not ready to lead America.

You’re right, Genna. (See link below.) The governor said in another article, “I know my body, and wasn’t worried. I was in contact with my doctor on the phone.” First of all, every pregnancy is different…especially, this one, as Palin was well aware. I come from family of physicians, and I don’t know of any reputable ob-gyn that would not have advised Mrs. Palin get to a hospital, immediately, under those circumstances. I also watched Palin recently exploit her infant son in front of a large crowd of people. Who, in God’s name, are these people???

We’re gratuitiously trashing a Valencia Community College professor (the real one or not, it doesn’t matter). Does anyone recall that Palin attended Northern Idaho Community College, before, of course, she made that tremendous leap to the intellectual haven (cough) of U. Idaho. Hot broad, but a fucking moron.

  34. GerogeS

    Upchuck:

Palin hasn’t “led” Alaska. She has less than 18 months experience. When she took office, she hired friends and placed them in positions for which they had zero experience or qualifications. She is often a “no-show” at important legislative meetings, and has come under fire for not responding to the communications and needs of a number of mayors and authorities throughout Alaska. She insulates herself, and is often unreachable.

When she doesn’t understand an important issue, she performs what is referred to as “grandstanding” as a smoke screen. She gave the legislature no budget direction, and slashed programs and projects during her first months in office that had to be re-instated due to public protest and further legislative actoin, simply because she didn’t understand their importance.

She deliberately lied to the American people and her own constituents by “grandstanding” and saying that she said “thanks, but no thanks” to the bridge from nowhere. In truth, it was exactly the other way around.

There’s a lot more, but I just don’t have the time or space to get into it any further. When Plain first came on the scene, I liked her. But after looking into her record very carefully, this like and respect has changed to the point that I wouldn’t allow this woman in my home.

Obama now has a significant lead in projected electoral votes, and the congressional races are favoring Democrats by a wide margin overall. Looks like “Any Republican ’08″ = no Republicans ’08. Enjoy your across-the-board losses next month.

“But when the day comes and a conservative hard working middle American draws the curtains shut at the voting booths, there is no way he is voting for Obama.”

Fine. That’s 30-35% of the vote, about the same as the liberals. Haven’t you heard that there’s a large group of hard working middle American INDEPENDENT voters who will determine the winner of the election? And guess what – they’re not going to vote for 4 more years of the same. Right now, there are no battleground states with large electoral vote counts that are leaning McCain’s way. It’s not just “da librul media” spinning things – ordinary working folks believe that McCain is old and out of it, like Bob Dole was when he ran. They’re too afraid about current economic conditions – and too fed up with Bush – to give their vote to a cranky old guy who seems to only talk about starting fights once he’s elected, and seems utterly obsessed with military strategy in Iraq. That was yesterday, old man, and no, I’m not going to get off your lawn.

I read on some other blog some guy who thought that Palin was just “Dan Quayle with lipstick”

    and a great ass i would add…

  48. The masses

Those who buy into Sarah Palin, think hard about this question: What is your standard for the vice presidency of the most powerful country in the world? 1) Someone who is a competent and intelligent leader OR 2) someone who’d you like to get a beer with?

If you answered 2: there are plenty of people you’d go drinking with but you wouldn’t trust them with your car, let alone one of the most powerful positions in the country. Also, think hard about the last time you voted for the “common joe” that you could relate with to be in a powerful position. What happened? An endless war, financial crisis, and general all around disaster. Why? ‘Cause he doesn’t do nuance, or rather, he doesn’t have the intelligence nor patience to understand all the details before making a sound decision. He’s a “cowboy” remember? Who needs time to examine all the evidence when you can go, go, go! All testosterone and little thought makes for bad bar fights and even worse politics.

Now what should you do? Make your decisions based on reason and stop PROJECTING yourself onto these candidates. Take the blinders off and be realistic. Obama, McCain, Biden, and even Palin are NOT like you. Don’t be like the gullible teeny bopper who thinks that she’s just like Paris Hilton if she gets the same purse – that is fantasy. Grow up and make your decisions based on policy, history, and above all LOGIC.

Vote for the candidates (P. and V.P.) who have the intelligence and training to run the most powerful country in the world and keep it that way. It IS a difficult task folks. Let’s not pretend that anyone off the streets can do it just because it’s more comforting to think of it that way.

  49. YERAJOKEPALINBITCH

  50. Wicked

Ok, freelevi- I admit freely that I cried during Forest Gump- that just makes me a mark for sappy movies. It does not mean that in ANY-FLIPPIN’-WAY I would even dream of siding with McCain/Palin.
The Republican Ticket is as absurd as inviting an avid hunter to be an honoree at a PETA Convention.
The Democratic Ticket isn’t much better in my view, but at least it will be a change from the same craptastic hell the country has been through the past 8 years.
And I honestly do NOT get how this is the most important election….WHY?!?! Because we’re either going to get the first black president or the first woman vice president?! This should not be about race or gender. This election should be about getting our country out of financial crisis, it should be about bringing our family home, it should be about bettering this nation for the future generation, it should be about this country standing proudly as the most powerful country that we’ve been said to be.
As an outspoken woman, I should at least feel for Mrs. SP, but I know that Palin has been added to the Rep. ticket to try to swing the female vote. She has done an awful job thus far in my state of swaying that vote. The poor woman speared herself when she used to analagy “Pitbull with Lipstick”. You cannot be on a public platform and use constant run-on sentences, horrid cliches, drop the ‘g’s from all of your words, and for goodness sakes, woman, how many times do I have to hear “hockey mom, Joe- Six pack”, and Alaska this and “Being govenor of Alaska” that in one answer?!? Just answer the question! ( I did however think that Mrs. Palin did very well in comparison to her recent televised interviews. I do also lik the fact that she seemed to one up Mr. Biden in the very beginning by asking if she could call him Joe, but at the same time found it very unprofessional seeing as this is a DEBATE FOR THE VICE PRESIDENCY OF THE USA!)
Now, while I do think that Mr. Biden won this debate hands down, I did see his faults as well. He also seemed to speak in run-on sentences and seemed to be flustered when answering alot of the questions.
Although Biden is an older man, and has had health problems in the past, I’d put my trust in him to be “the hearbeat away from president”. Although he has been known to be more than a little outspoken before, Palin made him look like the quiet kid in class who got straight A’s. He is a very well spoken and very well mannered man. Whereas Palin seems to be a cocky, “I know I’m cute and if I flub up some darling man will rescue me”, (lord help me, I’m using her phrase) hockey mom. I do not think this is what needs to be representing America.
I’m all for equal rights for all races and genders, but this is pushing it. When it comes to leading our fine country, leave it to the professionals Mrs. Palin. My dear, I beg of you!
