Sarah Palin is gosh-darn adorable a don’tcha know

October 3rd, 2008 // 408 Comments

Last night the Vice Presidential Debate took place between Republican Governor Sarah Palin and Democratic Senator Joe Biden. If you don’t know who these people are, please engage in activities with a high risk of infertility. Anyway, consider this post an open thread/romper room to get your politics on and sound off about the debate. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to salvage my eardrums which feel like they’ve been raped by Marge Gunderson from Fargo.

Oh, and who do I think won? How about I answer a completely different question instead? Waffles.*

*Didn’t get the joke? Don’t worry; I’ll post about Britney soon.

  1. Funfun

141 – I think its more the tone that you are a “tool.” Mainly because #53 came through with some percieved facts(facts he thinks are true). Whether they are true or not is irrelavent wehn in context of your slam against him.

#53 May not know anything and is a “tool”. But you are worst, insteat of argueing intelligently against him you just out right come out and essentially called him stupid but have no base of your arguement.

I think the VP debate was hilarious, both Palin and Biden did well and did poorly in the same night. But the best quote which applies to you actually comes from Palin seeing that you obviously are for the Obama/Biden camp.

I think she said “Oh Joe, you are still looking backwards instead of looking into the future and promoting change”

Please before you start using demeaning words and slam someone please be intelligent about it instead of spewing off words: Bush, Ingnorant(or variation), uneducated, misinformed, or uninformed. Can you make an arguement against 53 without those words?

  2. m

Mr Superficial, by waffles you mean, taxes?

  3. pete

“The economy being in the shitter is more the fault of private businesses than of the government.”

That’s both untrue as a statement, and also wrong about the impact of recessions on presidential elections.

  4. Obama-Biden 08

This lady is scary and has no business being VP of anything. Did you see those canned answers and hear that rambling circular talk? I think she confuses herself most of the time.

  5. Snarfy McSnarfpants

    Correct #142.

thats what I’ll be voting on.

I’m not for either of the candidates, they all are about their own political agenda and personal opinions, so it really makes no difference, this country is fucked no matter who we elect…..

The only thing I must say is that liberals do not let me get a word in edgewise, someone says “I’m a little unsure of what Obama meant by–” and before my sentance is complete, they are in your face, screaming opinions and personal insults upon the other candidates, never answering my question. And as for the conservatives, they have this disgusting cool about them….”well, I guess you’re not PATRIOTIC…”

I can assure you I am patriotic, just sick of the political bullshit.

    I want three questions answered

    1. What the fuck is to be done about the obscene gas prices
    2. What the fuck is to be done about this useless war
    3. What the fuck is to be done about this dying economy

No one of these four people will answer those questions and even if they did, they can’t give me a definate answer.

    Back to the drawing board.

  6. Two quotes, of many, from the "maverick"

“”And I’ve joined this team that is a team of mavericks with John McCain, also.”

“Also, John McCain’s maverick position that he’s in, that’s really prompt up to and indicated by the supporters that he has.”

Are we really surprised her son is a tard?

  7. LiLo for V-Prez 2008

I guess I’m too much of an Idealist.

Can’t we focus on being independent of the rest of the world, but still strive for good foreign relations?

Seems like if another country does nothing to actually threaten us, we could leave them alone, respect their sovereignty.

If another country would like to work out some beneficial trade with us, we could do that wothout completely screwing them. We could probably get it to work out more to their benefit than ours, and it wouldn’t actually hurt the us to do that.
They hate us because we’re successful? Give them some tips on how to stabilize things.

Now we’re the benevolent U.S. Friend to all who ask. Enemy to none unless they provoke us.

Now, if another country DOES try to threaten us or our allies in some way, we rip their god damn ball sack off and strangle them with it for their treachery. Is this how they repay our benevolent kindness? Well screw those motherfuckers.

If another country asks for help…against another superpower…well, that’s some tough stuff.

Immigration…the whole world can’t move here. They need to fix their own country sometime, not come here and lay around. We could probably give them a boost with it like in Afghanistan, but then they need to work out the details. If they can’t get it together, we rip somebody’s god damn ball sack off and strangle them with it. Real quick and effecient like. Don’t fart around.

Maybe Trump could make it work: “Ahmadinejad…you’re fired.”

  8. Just when I thought Palin couldn’t be anymore unqualified, I watched the, for lack of a better word, “debate” and I realized that she is much worse than I ever thought…

  9. Joe Melnick

Last week Biden said that FDR went on tv to reassure the country after the stock market crash in 1929. This is maybe one of the stupidest things ever said in a campaign.

FDR wasn’t president in 1929. There was no tv. If a republican had said this their career would be over. Similarly, if a republican claimed they’d been to 57 states, or were shot at or forced to land under fire when it was a snowstorm, they’d be toast.

If all the left has is the tired mooseburger/fargo/fake rape kit storylines, just admit that you’re wrong about Palin.

Finally, what was up with Biden’s face? Botox on the forehead, eye tucks, chemical peels, hair plugs. Nice.

  10. boo

SP did not do too badly last night, however, I thought she over-did the “folksey” bit. Since I am a Democrat, it didn’t really bother me, but I wondered if some Republicans felt talked down to.

  11. mamadough

as a woman, it pisses me off to no end when one of my own gender (fuck i hate to claim palin) has to use cutesy rhetoric and winking to get by as tolerable and more “human”. it’s the same as flashing your tits to a cop to get out of a ticket. does any one care what the fuck is going on inside her head? when did the american people become so fucking afraid of intelligence and more at home with joe-bob diddly dumbfuck? you conservatives are holding our country perpetually back about 50 years.

  12. Bubbasticky

    Your country is doomed.

  13. the truth is out there for those who seek it

You’re right, 153. Everyone now, minimize your celebrity gossip page and google these words: Community Reinvestment Act.

Now, read what Wikipedia has to say about this subject. I’ll give you a brief, cliff notes’ version:

The CRA, signed into law in 1977 by Jimmy Carter and then reinitialized by Bill Clinton, put pressure on private banks to give housing loans to low income buyers who otherwise would not qualify for a mortgage loan. The banks were assured that if said clients defaulted on those loans, two government sponsored enterprises- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac- would buy out those loans.

So, in short, too many people bought homes that were well beyond their means with the plan that once the price of the house appreciated, they could sell it and make some $$$. Problem is, when everyone and their dog owns a house, what happens to home values? They start to go down, which is exactly what has happened over the past few years, and now the people who make $50,000 a year but bought a $300,000 house are bailing and letting their houses go into foreclosure, which leaves the banks with no payments being made, which means….no money in the bank!

And now you have a brief synopsis of why the economy has tanked. Yeah, everyone blame Bush now, because God forbid we research anything that happened less than five minutes ago…

  14. Hmmmmm

#111 Interesting. I am intrigued. Is this factual? I do believe that this would never happen. The extremely rich do not drink or do anything else with the very poor. We are comparing shriveled apples and watermelons.

We are talking about working middle class people getting a break, that’s me. I want to get my daughter braces and put some money away for a rainy day. We are talking about extremely rich people that already get amazing tax breaks and own many houses and boats and such doing with one less boat or maybe one less trip to Europe which by the way I have never been able to go but wish I could.

We, the middle class are so tired of working so hard to break out of this middle road where the more we make the more we pay so we cannot get out or up. Why should that be any different for the rich. You cannot deny that the rich get richer while the poor get more poor while the middle class stays stuck in the middle. We need a chance to save and travel and do the things we want instead of working everyday just to hold position. Do you have any good suggestions?

We aren’t getting anything for free, we don’t get any breaks. We can barely afford insurance if at all. This is a big problem. If we cannot rise and we do fall which is happening all over the country, just look around you, then what?

There will be the very rich and the very poor. Sound like anything you have heard of?

  15. Katie Couric is an idiot. I hear Mr. Ed keeps calling her for a date. Although he’d even be jealous of those teeth and gums.

You don’t have to read magazines to be have any intelligence about current affairs. You could log onto your computer, watch political shows on FOX or MSNBC, or just plain old get out there and talk to people, for God’s sake.

Too bad Sarah Palin didn’t think quick enough to tell that to the Mare.

  16. I have some news for you Sarah

@ 150: I have some news for you Sarah. I know you’re one of the idiots who believe’s in this shit, so I’ll brighten your day. Here comes the honest-to-god truth:

For a while, a few months ago, David Duke actually preferred candidape Obongo to Juan McCainez. He’s since changed his tune, but the dopey demopublican operatives of the republican persuation still can’t sell the jews’ neocon candidate to the “racists” (poor pathetic white people who mistakenly believe they have as much right to be ethnocentric as anybody else) at Stormfront.

I’ll even paraphrase a post that made me laugh.

Some poster speaking to a “hidden” republican operative named BrandiG:

“BrandiG, doesn’t it give you even a little bit of pause that after all of your efforts you still can’t sell your neo-con zionist candidate to some of the most racist people in the country over the Negro?”

Yeah, that’s right, a lot of the people at Stormfront prefer candidape Obongo to open-borders lunatic Juan McCainez.

Before you get too carried away with yourself though, you should consider why they want him:

    they think he’s a total fuck-up and that he’ll swell Stormfront’s ranks.

OK, you stupid white sheeple, you can continue with your utterly irrelevant dog shit analysis of the “debates”.

  17. Andrea

Sarah Palin is a celebrity politician. It’s a huge irony given McCain’s very successful jabs against Obama for that very same thing, before the conventions (seems like ages ago). But look at all the TV coverage, all the news and blog coverage, this comment thread (which will go into the hundreds). Right after the debate, most of the commentary and analysis was about Palin, even though she didn’t damage Obama in any way. It’s genuine celebrity, complete with the “why is she supposed to be special, again?” factor that we make fun of here (most of the time, anyway).

If you recall, McCain had pulled to a virtual tie with Obama before the conventions. I thought his Obama-as-an-empty-celebrity strategy was a winner. Now that’s off the table because Palin is 100 times the empty celebrity as Obama. Plus, there were 3 days (day before debate, debate day, day after) when Palin knocked McCain out of the news, while Biden stayed in the background as a VP candidate should. She keeps doing that with her interviews and appearances. John McCain simply can’t afford that, while trailing with only a month to go. Whether he realizes it or not, Palin is working now for her own political future, and it’s costing him dearly.

  18. @111

Fuck you and anyone who agrees with you. If you don’t want your high paying job because of the high taxes, then quit. I’ll take that job in a second. Anybody would, you’re still doing better than everybody else you greedy bastard.

  19. boo

Good post #164. I wish I could be encouraged by the talk at the debates last night of bi-partisanship, we need to work together NOW as Americans. Doubt if it will happen, politics has gotten so ugly, nobody wants to give any ground on their idealogy even if it means fixing what is broken.

  20. Michelle Obama

    I love bananas!

  21. And one more thing . . .

continued from my post at 166:

. . . candidape Obongo belongs as much to the jews as Juan McCainez. Have a nice day, you mindless white idiots.

  22. Huffybike

Wow, did she really think THIS tactic would work?

  23. #150: hahahahahahahahahaha

She wink at anyone else last night!? If she winked at you and you want to revisit the memories, then def check out

Oh man, she’s such a nutcase

  24. dontlooknow

To answer your three questions all at once:
Make war on Canada; it”ll be over in a week and then we can rape their untapped resources to bolster our own economy and fill our gas tanks. We can end the war in Iraq, since Canada’s closer.
    Whatcha think?

  25. Michelle Obama

    Ah’s mezhuh-in da zebra drapes, y’all!

Look out, Whot Howse cooks! Chittlinz iz now ON DA MENYOO oo oo oo.

  26. Joe Melnik

What does it say about all of you so desperate to say that Palin is dumb, that you believe stories that are untrue and easily fact-checked. The rape kit story is 100% false. Her book-banning is false. Her demand for intelligent design in schools is 100% false.

She is the most scrutinized person in the world, whereas nobody knows what Obama did as a community organizer or how he landed the top job with the Chicago Annenburg group headed by terrorist Bill Ayers. What did he do with Acorn? Nobody wants to interview anyone he worked with in ‘the community’? The neighbourhood he cleaned up is an unliveable slum still riddled with asbestos.

    Who is this guy?

Biden says we ‘kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon’ – uh, no.

Obama did say explicitly that he’d sit down with Ahmedinejad. It’s on video.

Biden said we’ve spent more in 1 month in Iraq than 7 years in Afghanistan. We’ve spent $172 Billion in Afghanistan so he’s only off by about 2000 percent, which for him is pretty good.

I’m sorry, which is the stupid one again?

  27. the truth is out there for those who seek it

    @ 164,

I feel for your position, I really really do- I’m part of the middle class myself, a parent to three kids under the age of five, My husband and I live in a modest home, drive two cars with over 100k miles on them, share one cell phone between us, and pay just for basic cable (we still use our VCR!). We do not take fancy vacations, and we shop at places like Target for clothing.

But what your words reflect the class warfare that Obama’s campaign has successfully installed within the American psyche:
“You cannot deny that the rich get richer while the poor get more poor while the middle class stays stuck in the middle. We need a chance to save and travel and do the things we want instead of working everyday just to hold position.”

Obama’s not freaking Robin Hood, people. It’s called living within your means. If everyone could just follow that doctrine, we’d all probably be a lot better off.

Like the sound of this statement?
“From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs.”
Wanna know who is famous for that quote?
    Karl Marx. Obama’s hero.

  28. Oh my GOD!!! Did you guys see that debate last night???

I didn’t I accidentally went to a bar and got shitfaced and woke up this morning wondering how I even got to bed..

  29. Jules

You know what I would like to see? People referencing some kind of impartial fact-checking site before spouting off about how one candidate did this, and another did that.

I seriously wonder how many of those “facts” thrown out in this discussion are truly valid.

  30. Jim

#163 – the financial market meltdown wasn’t caused by the mortgage foreclosure mess at the bottom. It was caused by the fact that the folks who couldn’t afford homes in the first place got mortgages because of a pyramid scheme that emerged when investment bankers got the bright idea to create mortgage securities and Moody decided to rate them as AAA or AA instead of the junk bonds that they were. The pyramid scheme collapsed like they all do: the people at the bottom didn’t have the money (mortgage payments) needed when the deals at the top had to be backed up with real assets, not bullshit.

The Community Reinvestment Act had nothing to do with the DECISION OF THE WALL STREET BANKERS to create the mortgage securities pyramid scheme.

  31. Vote Obama/Biden

Fuck, she’s an idiot. Her and McCain. I could rant for hours, but here’s just a little tidbit that irks a pet peeve of mine. Here are two quotes from last night:
“I’m not one to attribute every man — activity of man to the changes in the climate.”
“And it is my executive experience that is partly to be attributed to my pick as V.P. with McCain”
She doesn’t know what it means to make an attribution. One might attribute global warming to the activity of man or attribute her V.P. selection to her executive experience, but not the other way around. While me may, in the future, attribute the activity of man to changes in the climate, that’s not the issue we’re facing now and that’s not the point she was trying desperately to recall from her days and weeks of cramming for last nights test. And we can’t possibly attribute her “executive experience” to her pick as V.P.
She’s an idiot. There’s an idiot in the White House now. Too many people thought W’s idiocy was not a problem, and look where we are after eight years of his egomaniacal, ideologically driven “leadership” in the White House. We can’t afford to follow up the Worst President (and Vice President) Ever with four more years of the same. Please.

  32. clarification

#176 – “I’m sorry, which is the stupid one again?”

    It’s the one who said:
“We have trade missions back and forth. We, we do, it’s very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where, where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to, to our state.”

  33. Grunion

Say “maverick” again you underqualified, tiny brained robot.

    Fuck me.

What’s Top Gun got to do with this election anyway?

  34. sharpeidude

Palin won that debate last night!

(At least in the minds of several trailer-dwellin’, NASCAR-lovin’, moonshine swillin, cousin stealin’, gun rack owning inbred-country music fucks say.)

    Welcome to Hee-Haw!

  35. boo

Seriously #177? Live within your means? My husband and I both work but our wages cannot keep pace with the cost of living. And no, I do not mean vacations or big screen TVs, I mean food, gas and utilities. And we at least HAVE jobs. So many people are unemployed, I can’t even imagine how they will get through this winter.

  36. Baconmessiah

Why is McCain a war hero? Cause he got shot down? John Kerry actually saw and engaged the enemy and you stupid fuckers ran him out of town. All this General’s boy did was drop bombs on people he couldn’t see then went back to his cabin to drink and smoke. There was nothing “honorable” about Vietnam. Besides, if he’s such a honorable man why is he running the diritest campaign in recent meory? Fuck him and his bimbotic running mate.

  37. the truth is out there for those who seek it

    @ 180,

Yes, some of the Wall Street bankers got greedy and took advantage of the poor, poor individuals who didn’t bother to do their math or read their fine print and really and truly BELIEVED that they could get a big fancy home for next to nothing payments per month. Love the personal responsiblity you advocate on behalf of those poor, defenseless home buyers @@

If the price of the home more than 2 1/2 times your yearly salary, you have no business purchasing it. I managed to figure that out, why couldn’t others? If that is too hard a concept to understand, they you have no business owning property to begin with.

And those greedy Wall Street bankers would not have made those predatory loans if they had not been assured by Fannie and Freddie that the govt would buy up those loans – so, yes- it has everything to do with the Community Reinvestment Act.

  38. Maverick

Sorry you got raped but uh, your gonna have to keep the baby. sorry.

  39. Michelle Obama

Mah bruthas in Sierra Leone lahks ta cut otha bruthas hands off.

  40. nipolian

#168 – Sorry but my job requires higher education…….You are clearly under qualified.

#164 – I am sorry that you made poor choices in life and have not obtained the level of success that you desire, but you are missing the point……..If you don’t allow domestic businesses to compete by giving them tax breaks, there will be no domestic businesses to provide jobs for the working class.

Two classic examples of the Democratic thought process………Give me something for nothing because I deserve it.

  41. Palin is a joke

I can’t believe how corny and cliche Palin was. It’s obvious she has no idea what she is talking about. McCain and his advisors told her to play up every little thing people say they like about her, because that’s all she could work with. She has no knowledge, but she’s attractive and a soccer mom and she went after the big oil and blah blah blah. Tell us something we haven’t already heard. Oh wait you can’t because you don’t have any actual skills or experience relevant to this election and you running for vp. And for the love of god, it’s not nucular! She didn’t answer any question and if she did, it’s was a one sentence answer. Then she would say “but I want to talk about how I…” You know what, you haven’t done shit. Palin didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know about her or McCain. She completely skewed her facts and I love how Biden called her out when she did. Every time Biden would speak, Palin would be looking down studying her cards, looking quite nervous, because everything she had to talk about was completely new to her! When she spoke, Biden listened. He wasn’t frantically studying his cards preparing for his next answer. Palin just threw out cliche terms, said simple things that the stupid soccer mom demographic will drool over and say “oh yeah, she knows what she’s talking about!” And what is with the midwestern accent??? Hehe, she’s just a good “ol american soccer maaam! I find it so hard to understand how people can support her. Please, if you are reading this and you support Palin, tell me why. I’m very curious to hear why people support her. All she did was present, for the most part, false facts against Obama and all she could say everytime Biden answered a question was “now there you go again looking back pointing fingers!” Well no shit, someone has to point the fingers! Obviously you and McCain won’t because you support Bush. It’s important to point out the past and what was done so people can realize that nothing will change if McCain is elected. She is in way over her head. And seriously, if you are a Palin supporter, please tell me why. Thanks.

  42. I truly feel sorry for people who can’t make ends meet, have kids, and we all know, kids always need stuff. My heart goes out to those people, like the guy above who’d like to get his little girl braces.

But some people are in a bad situation because they live WAY beyond their means. I don’t live in a mansion, but it’s a nice house and we have nice things in it. We always buy brand new cars, pay cash for them, BUT – we keep those cars until they virtually die. We don’t deny ourselves extras, we buy good food, take a couple of little trips each year, but we don’t fly to Europe for 3 weeks, or take Hawaiian vacations every year.

Not all, but most people living in those McMansions have no right being in a place that they truly cannot afford.

  43. the truth is out there for those who seek it

Yes, 185, live within your means. If you and your husband both work, and you cannot keep up with the cost of living, then you can either:

    A. further your education so you can get a better paying job
    B. Look for a better paying job
C, move somewhere that has lower living expenses

My husband works as a service advisor at a local autmotive repair shop. I stay at home with my three kids. We don’t live in the lap of luxury, but we manage. We are even able to fund our own health insurance, totally out of our own pocket. I find it hard to believe that things are THAT difficult for you in comparison. Please quit acting like a fucking victim, and please don’t call for taking money out of my husband’s employer’s coffers, because I sort of like his employment status.

Btw, unemployment figures started to rise in June, which, coincidentally enough, was about the same time colleges unleased a bunch of new graduates into the employment ranks and Congress passed a mandatory minimum wage increase. What happens when business are told they have to (by force of law) start paying their workers more money? They start laying off workers, of course.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am bowing out of this discussion. My son’s diaper is full of the same stuff some of the posters here keep spewing..

  44. Monet

Of course Palin did better this time around!! She was schooled on what to say and how not to look like an incompetent fool like she did in her Couric interview. She’s just a puppet like the rest of those Reps. #5 is right and everyone else that thinks she is not V.P. quality.

P.S. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Whether they are a teacher, a student, or an old man with a lot of time on his hands. I love my celeb gossip it is a guilty pleasure.

You don’t like my opinion? ….I don’t give a Fuck.

  45. @190

What’s you job? Eating Cheetos and ranting on The Superficial? For someone with a higher education, you sure come off as a close minded jackass.

  46. Joe Six Pack

Meh. The only interesting thing about Palin was whether she’s a true MILF. After seeing that clip of her in the swimsuit competition in the Miss Alaska contest, back when she was in her prime at 20 years old, the answer obviously is: not really. In fact, the already-droopy body in that clip, after 5 kids and 25 years…yeesh.

Politically? She’s a flash in the pan, obviously. She’ll go back to Alaska and lose her reelection bid for governor (her approval ratings there have dropped off drastically because she’s completely ignored her duties since she hit the campaign trail). Maybe after that, an appearance on “The View” and then that’ll be it. Onto the next political celebrity…

  47. Kennedy

I am voting for Obama because of his policies:

1-Only raise taxes for Americans making $250,000 or more per year.
2-Give tax breaks to those Americans making less than $250,000 per year.
    3-Provide funding for alternative energy.

McCain did not approve funding for alternative energy and would rather give 4 billion dollars to the oil companies.

4-No drilling in Alaska. It would take 10 years to get oil and by this time US should have alternative energy. Drilling harms the environment.

5-Provide government health care so that all Americans can get health insurance. If you are happy with your current health care, then the new policy will not affect you.

McCain wants to privitize health care which means Americans would have to pay 5,000 for health insurance with no guarantee of quality health care because of no regulations from the government.

6-Obama is Pro Choice and McCain is Anti Choice.

  48. PAM

    MCCAIN PALIN 2008!!!!!!!

  49. TUBBO

#190 You nailed it on the head! I own a small business and Clinton taxed the living shit out of us to give it to some lazy mother fuckers who “deserve it”. These idiots on here are to busy concentrating on Palins accent and winks to see your point. Fucking idiots.

  50. @199

I remember Clinton. That was when we had good jobs, and could afford to purchase from your small business.
