‘Jackass’ Ryan Dunn Dies in Car Crash

June 20th, 2011 // 256 Comments

Around midnight last night Jackass and Viva La Bam star Ryan Dunn (left) posted the above photo to his Twitter account. Three hours later, he was pronounced dead in a car accident. TMZ reports:

34-year-old Dunn appeared in all of the “Jackass” movies — famously shoving a toy car into his rectum in the first flick back in 2002.
Dunn and an unidentified person both died in the crash which happened around 3 a.m. at Route 322 and New Street in West Goshen Township. It’s unclear who was driving the car.

So, basically two drunk assholes got into a car Porsche and luckily managed to only kill themselves instead of innocent bystanders. I’d say that’s a happy ending, but only if footage turns up of Ryan Dunn looking into a camera and saying, “I call this one ‘Natural Selection.’”

EDIT: For anyone who didn’t click that Porsche link, Dunn is confirmed as the driver.

  1. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I’m so upset about this. I can’t believe this happened. Poor Porsche, gone to early :( Sorry you had a dick for a driver who had no concern for your safety, you didn’t deserve it. I don’t care what anyone says.

FUCK OFF YOU TWAT!! HOPE YOUR BROTHER OR SISTER DIES!! AND SOME CUNT FUCK COMES TROLLING ABOUT IT!! How easily you cast judgement over their death… you know what would be wicked? If a drunk lad run you over and leaves you quadra hahaha so you can’t write any more bollox!

It’s O.K. It’s O.K. I think it’s time for your meds. That should make you feel all better. O.K?

Why are these tweens flying off the handle? Grow the flap up. You’re gonna be alright. Unless this was a family member or close friend just buck up and get on with living. He was a great jackass but now he’s gone. Let it go.

    • Mendacity 'R' Us

I was with you until “drunk lad.”

  5. adam

Where does it say he was drunk? Where does it say he was driving, or that the other party was drunk?

I understand you are bitter that he made more money shoving cars up his ass than you do running this website, but there is no reason to be an ass about it…

  6. Whoever wrote this article is a piece of shit

I can’t even imagine what his family and friends are going through. This is a really devastating loss, whether you liked Ryan or not.

A couple of people here are mentioning the car was going over 100 mph, what article said that? Since this story is so new, there are a lot of details missing.
In the grand scheme of things, the end result is still the same unfortunately.

I am an older dude and I met Ryan out on several occasions. He was a great guy and I liked him a lot. He was friendly and we had some discussions about business and real estate. He was down to earth and intelligent. His “stage” manner was not close to how I saw Ryan in person. Bam was there and was laid back and low key. I am saddened to hear about this accident. Ryan will be missed. I am privileged I got to meet the real Ryan and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

  8. shavawn

how sad :( dunn was awesome r.i.p :(

    • Charlotteee

How was he awesome? He shoved children’s toys up his fucking ass and stapled his balls to tables. He was an asshole.

  9. pointing out the obvious

Dude’s death announcement mentions that he shoved a toy car up his ass. I’m sure that’s what he hoped to be known for.

  10. Dan

*shrug* I won’t miss him. I am also glad he wrapped his car around a tree at 100 MPH rather than some poor person in the wrong place in the wrong time.

    + 1 fish

  11. Wow…some people are getting WAY too butt-hurt about Fish’s comments.

    1) just because someone is an “entertainer who brought laughter to millions” they don’t get a pass to be an asshole without recrimination.

    2) If he was drunk he got exactly what he deserved, and it’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone else (you know, aside from the other person he killed).

    3) If he was sober he got exactly what he deserved for driving over 100 mph, and it’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone else (you know, aside from the other person he killed).

    4) Who cares if Fish is being harsh? You didn’t know Dunn, his family isn’t going to be wandering gossip sites looking for people’s opinions of the guy. Dunn himself is beyond caring, and no one who legitimately knows the guy is here.

    5) I’m not sure why some of you are shocked by Fish’s “lack of class,” seeing as how he is a celebrity commentator and comedy writer. This isn’t a site for empty sympathy or crocodile tears; it’s for gossip, jokes, and whatever bits of scathing commentary Fish cares to write. I get that you might not like it, but I don’t get why you thought it would be anything other than what it is.

    • Whoever wrote this article is a piece of shit

I’ve never been here before actually. I didn’t even know this place existed. I was just looking for news on Ryan and stumbled across this dickweed.

      • Whoever wrote this article is a piece of shit

I guess you were never a fan of someone and felt sad when they died, huh? Stop trying to be such a hardass, you just sound dumb. It’s still unknown whether Dunn was driving or actually drunk, etc. A lot of people are just speculating.

      • duh

then keep on moving because you obviously can’t handle this website… do you really think Ryan Dunn would have given two shits if YOU, a complete stranger, wrapped YOUR car around a tree?

      • No, you can feel sad about an entertainer dying, but that doesn’t change the fact that he got what was coming to him. Even if he wasn’t drunk (and we know he was at least drinking), I refer you to #3: if you drive like a jackass you’re going to get in an accident. I liked Ryan Dunn in Jackass and Viva La Bam, but my opinion of him is tempered by the fact that he killed his passenger by driving like an idiot. In fact, it’s almost worse if he was sober…then he doesn’t even have the excuse of being drunk. I have no sympathy for people who get behind the wheel and drive like a douche.

And, again, even if you’re new to this site it’s fairly obvious that it is a gossip rag. It’d be like stumbling on DrunkenStepfather and complaining about the lack of class.

Regardless if he was drunk or not,,it still doesn’t make it easier for the people he leftmmhis friends family and fans..WE are all human and we all make and do stupid decisions in our lives,,,That doesn’t mean that he deserved to die,,if that was the case then onetime or another we all would of deserved to die.. Rest in peace!! Ryan you will be greatly missed!!!

    • What does “deserving” have to do with it. He is dead because of his choices. At the bare minimum he was driving way too fast on a 2 lane road with at least one or two drinks in him. More than likely he was piss drunk; something that will become clear if they can get enough of his corpse scraped together for a toxicology report considering how burned up he was and how little of the car is left. Weep for him if you want but you can shove off with the excuses… He is at fault. Period.

    • Um…he was driving like an idiot, that is the very definition of deserving to die. So sorry, but if you choose to do something dangerous and stupid, you may have to pay for it. The person who might not have deserved to die was the passenger he killed…depending on the exact situation.

  13. Hugh Jazz

Calling a dead guy an “asshole” as his corpse is still smoldering is pretty low, even for Hollywood standards.

I call Zach Galafanakis for the biopic.

  16. What a waste of an awesome car

  17. Josh O

You’re attitude toward the loss of a human life sickens me. Write something worth reading.

  18. rimikka

So many people look up to Fish to be a shining example of tasteful and sensitive commentary. I mean, that’s totally why I read this site, too. Seriously. Way to live us down, Fish. You ought to be ashamed.

  19. thinkingursickntwisted

No, u shouldn’t drink and drive, however if u do, u still don’t deserve 2 die. (R.I.P Ryan, u were and always will be awesome!) But there’s always atleast 1 insensitive immature cunt in the world that has to “stand out” and attract negative attention by saying dumb shit. How would u feel if it was some 1 u loved?

  20. BestCheddar

I live in West Chester and although I dont know Dunn personally, I do know he was one of the ‘good’ guys of the cast. The area he wrecked is a breeding ground for accidents. There are deaths there all the time unfortunately, and you’d have to be pretty lit up to be driving 100+ mph in that area. Even sober, alert, in daylight and going around the speed limit, there are a lot of accidents there. If he was drunk, he drank and drove for the last time. If he wasnt, then its an unfortunate speeding accident. Whatever the case, sympathies to his family and friends, and the same to the passenger.

  21. Really?

I love how people try so hard to praise and protect someone who is making fun of someone who died. Whether he was a bum or the president or a jackass, you should still show some respect for the dead. He was someone’s son, friend, brother, etc. Just because he chose to make a shit load of money to do stupid shit on camera (which I guarantee almost all of you would do too if you were offered) doesn’t make it ok for you to hate him. Albeit, drunk driving is a stupid thing to do, but he was a person and for that i give him respect. RIP Dunn.

    • DM

So what has he done that warrants all this worship and respect? Who gives a shit the guy was popular what 10 yrs ago? I’d be sadder if my dog died. I don’t have a default to “respect” the dead unless there was something worth respecting. Good riddance.

      • can't stick things up your ass now

I would hope you would be sadder your dog died! after all you are supposed to love him and you do know him personally which is more than you can say for a moron on tv who nobody knew personally so just get on with your lives. He already killed one person it’s lucky there were not more on the road! wonder how his fans would feel if it was somebody they knew in the car or on the road.Let’s care more about innocent people like Clarence Clemons who was a great musician but his death is overshadowed by someone who sticks things up his ass and staples his balls and decides it’s time to play fast and the furious while he’s drunk and has a passenger.Hey let’s all go one step further and care about the soldiers who die in Iraq today that’s the problem with America we only give a shit about nobodies who don’t deserve it! unless you people knew him personally quit your crying shut the fuck up and move on already!

    • Charlotteee

“You should show respect for the dead.” Quit with the bullshit – if a man killed your children, because he got too fucking drunk and decided to drive over 100mph, would you show respect? I don’t think so. Stop trying to take a moral high ground, you didn’t know the guy personally, and people die everyday – get over it.

    • He was also an idiot who killed someone with his driving (two someones if you count Dunn himself). I love how you people are trying to defend someone who was driving over 100 mph in a dangerous area that killed not only himself, but someone else who was presumably someone’s son, friend, brother, etc.

I don’t hate him for what he did professionally, I liked his work. I resent him for killing someone unnecessarily through his idiocy.

  22. saint

his body isnt warm, they put out the fire – check the pictures

  23. Charlotteee

I like my drink drivers like I like my steak… well Dunn.

    • Jessica

You like your drink drivers? These posts are full of winners. Seriously. Your spelling error is worse than the joke (somehow).

      • Charlotteee

It’s a joke that has sarcasm.
Go grieve over your best friend… Oh yeah, you didn’t even know the fucking guy.

  24. Asquared

all i heard was that he died this morning along with a passenger. i also heard that april announced it on a radio show this morning. then one of my friends sent me a link to an article saying that this entire thing was a joke.

I heard Preston Lacy was the one that discover the wreck….thought he smelled barbeque.

    Window seat, please.

  30. tom

until his BAC comes back and its under the limit hes just a dumb son of a bitch who died drinking and driving. he deserved it. his passenger on the other hand did not

    • Charlotteee

The passenger still willingly got into the car, knowing that he had been drinking. He could’ve refused to get into the car… (assuming Ryan had been drink driving).

      • And if Dunn wasn’t drunk then he chose to drive over 100 mph and killed his passenger who presumably thought the sober man was ok to drive.

  31. duh

It’s also worth pointing out that the Porsche 911 has notoriously bad handling around turns at high speeds. Even the Stig on Top Gear spun off the track during the lap test in the 911, and he’s a professional racer. Bad choices all around!

  32. TomFrank

What pisses me off about this post is that some third-rater I’ve never heard of gets his own obituary post, but Clarence Clemons just gets an “Other News” mention link.

  33. Peter Shithead

It’s only been a few hours and already the jokes have been Dunn to death.

  34. Dunn sticks a toy car up his ass and dies in a car crash? If that’s the way karma works I’m going to start shoving Girl Scout cookies up my ass.

HAHAHA. I’m glad he is dead. This is the best news I’ve heard all day. It is just terrible the car wasn’t loaded with the rest of those losers.

  40. TomFrank

I wonder if this hostility at Fish’s perceived callousness will spark a round of soul-searching among the regular commenters on The Superficial. Maybe they will stop hoping for the death of this or that vapid celebrity, as seen on pretty much every post about Lindsay Lohan, Spencer and/or Heidi, etc. Maybe they won’t be so quick to condemn that Teen Mom because she failed a suicide attempt, and offer compassion instead. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll learn that with possible extreme exceptions (Osama bin Laden, Adolf Hitler), no one deserves to die.

  41. Ricardo

He was a legend and will be missed and just for the records ” I wish bam was in the back seat”?! Sort your life out….. Clearly jealous!

  47. AleisterCrowley

I thought it was kinda like the way Steve Irwin died. I figured he would’ve been taken out by a crocodile but an animal that no one thought was that dangerous got him. Here’s a man who hooked his nuts up to car batteries and staples his asshole shut that gets killed in a car wreck. Both were reckless and foolish.

  48. Reginald

Fuck him. He went out the way he lived, being a self-centered, high-speed asshole who’d as soon take your life as his own if he thought it was funny. It’s better than he probably deserved. Too bad it didn’t involve taking out a car-full of the rest of those Jackass maggots. I’d totally have bought tickets to that.
