Rush Limbaugh is an asshole

October 25th, 2006 // 195 Comments

On Monday Rush Limbaugh suggested that Michael J. Fox deliberately went off his medication to exaggerate his Parkinson’s symptoms in a campaign ad for Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill in which he called for stem-cell research. On his syndicated show Limbaugh said:

“I think this is exploitative in a way that’s unbecoming of either Claire McCaskill or Michael J. Fox.”

Although yesterday on his website he backed away from his accusation, saying:

“All I’m saying is I’ve never seen him the way he appears in this commercial for Claire McCaskill. So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act, especially since people are telling me they have seen him this way on other interviews and in other television appearances.”

And then he drove down to the local hospital and yelled at a bunch of patients for being liars. That guy with cerebral palsy who keeps twitching? Liar! That guy who got shot three times in the stomach who keeps bleeding? Liar! They’re all liars. And there’s only one man brave enough to stand up for truth and justice and all that is right: Batman! But he was off fighting a giant mechanical spider or something so they called in Rush Limbaugh.

We’re making enemies faster than we can kill them!!!

  2. See a tongue-in-cheek visual that gives Rush Limbaugh a dose of his own medicine…here:

We need Dirt McGirt on this thread desperately!!

I can’t believe the Fetus/Unborn Baby Hate here justified any way you can spin it. Stem Cell Research on Fetuses leads to BAD things. Period. Left wing, right wing whatever- it is fact. There are other avenues we have to take, this isn’t fucking Hitler’s Germany.

  4. zena marie

Yeah who cares that Michael J. became an Ameican citizen in 2000 — he used to be a Canadian! Bitch slap him for calling himself a fellow American.

How dare he show the ravages of Parkinson’s. Those shaking-jiving f*ckers ought to stay zoned on thorazine! We like the effects of our religious-political agenda to be nicely sanitized and airbrushed.
It doesn’t matter that stem cell research is also helping in the area of cancer research, we MUST save the frozen cells!… before they’re destroyed, as per standard procedure, anyway.

  5. Outstanding effort, 153.

Just when I think that I have read the most hysterically ignorant post ever written, you provide this information blast:

Stem cell research = BAD and Nazism

Furthermore, you state that these are facts. Pretty Stupid Baby, do you know exactly what a fact is? I mean really–look it up–a “fact” is a very precise thing. The things that you describe are most certainly not facts.

#114: sweetie-pie, i purposely took your ONE statement ‘no one wants people to die’ out of context…because I don’t care a damn about Republicans vs. Democrats or who uses what and whom to get votes. But you obviously didn’t catch that – which means you are reacting hyper-sensitively to a sarcastic, general statement made by yours truly. The world is slightly bigger than just Missouri or the US. *rolls eyes back*
    ***
First of all, you don’t make any damn sense. You respond to my original post with a hysterical rant on US foreign policy. Now if you are too stupid to figure it out: that has nothing to do with Fox’s stem cell propaganda ad which is, yes, currently being aired in Missouri. You’re like a nutter, spamming up the comment board with irrelevant posts. Go back to daycare and learn something.

Our healthcare system is a symptom-management system. We “cure” very few diseases. Mostly, we control symptoms with surgery or medication for chronic conditions such as diabetes.

Christopher Reeve lived an exceeding long life dispite his injury. Cervical (C1, C2) neck fractures as high up are always fatal unless treated immediately. These fractures disable the body’s nerves that control breathing. The paramedics at the event when he was injured saved his life for a while with proper medical care.

It is anguish itself for me to see an uncontrolled disease such as MJF’s get lambasted when he is supporting a search for a cure. The medication simply eases the discomfort he may feel. Additionally, he must balance his diet to keep up with increased metabolic demands. It is a 24 hour job. One reason why we will never be able to control symptoms of chronic diseases, let along cure them, is because of brain chemistry. L-Dopa is made in the brain, and does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Finding a way around this obstacle is where stem-cell research shows the most promise.

Stem cell research should be apolitical. Not every embryo will grow into an adorable bundle of joy in 9 months. 20% of pregnancies fail in the first six weeks; most go unrecognized. Nature’s way is to allow the non-viable pregnancies to fail. Stem-cell research opens a door to possibility of a cure for many injuries and ailments.

Those who are blindly repeating what the right has taught them to parrot have no idea what they are talking about.

Don’t condemn anyone who seeks a cure for his/her chronic condition.

It isn’t a right vs. left argument.

  9. Whatup

First of all I think everyone who has posted has said NOTHING about NOT wanting to find a cure. So you F$ Democrats can try to keep spinning this. The deal is that we should look for a cure, but at what expense. It seems you people are fine with the butchering of the human body to arrive at your results. Do you A-holes realize that stem cell research has been going on in the private sector along time now? Typical Democrat spin BS!

  10. tweetyeyes

I think they should be ashamed of themselves using him in there ad. I believe it is being used as a sympathy votes.

  11. zena marie

    #159 can you say f-r-o-z-e-n e-m-b-r-y-o-s??
I know that’s “butchering the human body” if you’re a horror fiction writer or an hysteric, but to the rest of the world, and embryo isn’t a body.
But if it upsets you, here’s a tip: they destory those little frozen cell pods anyway, so you could stand outside of the buildings and protest that!

  12. Cheyenne_1

Yep, it’s hard to see the disease face to face.

Fox has balls for showing himself without the Hollywierd fluff and the politically correct trimmings.

  13. PrettyBaby

#155 I think it is a fact, but of course it is only my opinion. There is absolutely no need to call me names and shit. I think you are catargorically incorrect, but I also realize that everyone has reasons for their own beliefs. If you can express your opinion, then so can I.

  14. PrettyBaby

    Prett, yes. Stupid, no.

  15. PrettyBaby

    Apparently pretty, no. Stupid, yes;)

  16. laikiska

#157 – of course you are entirely right, I am a total moron. So I took your advice and went to day care today – boy, did we have fun making stuff out of play-do! Thanks again, you have changed my life! :)

  17. NCaudell

Rush is a HYPOCRITE. He NEVER voted for Reagan (wasn’t registered to vote), dodged the draft (chicken hawk) and cashed welfare checks. Maybe if we start ignoring him, he’ll just go away

  18. Whatup

#161 I am not talking about frozen embro’s we are talking about the ad and the proposed law in Missouri. They want to pay people to have them removed from there body. Who do you think will want the money? Do you know the risks involved in this procedure, it isn’t like going to the dentist to have a cavity filled. I am for stem cell research, but not crazy about SOME of the ways people want to extract them. Also, do you feel that the people of Missouri should have to flip the bill for this? It will becoming out of there pockets in the form of taxes.

    #158 No-Angel

i agree with you so much i would adopt you,and let you borrow most prized possesions and go out to dinner and a movie.

what is wrong with you people?

i am a healthcare professional, and if you have ever seen anyone with the beginning, middle or end stages of parkinsons, you would fully understand what complete douche bags you are all being.

i pray that none of you or your family ever have the displeasure of having parkinsons inflicted upon you,in any form.it is a debilitating disease, not just for the patient, but for their family members, who have to see their loved ones slipping away, with medication only giving the lucky few a litte more time.

i have seen many patients die from parkinsons; they can no longer communicate,or feed themselves, needing tubes in their nose or surgically inserted to their stomachs to provide nutrition.they get pnemonia from fluid and food going down the wrong way,or just wither away.

go to a neuro ward of a hospital and check it out before you get on a patiens case for trying to bring light to the suffering of so many.if he wasnt a celibrity, you would all be shocked and sympathetic instead.

when is finding a cure to an illness ever a bad thing?WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PSYCHOS?

    fuck you republican assholes.

    FUCK YOU.

come spend a day with me,then see how you feel.

    im disgusted.truly.

  20. tweetyeyes

You should be disgusted. You bleeding heart liberal fuck! I’m sure every person alive has had to endure a loved one suffering from some type of terminal illness at some point in there life. And guess what, were no closer to any cure for any of these diseases than 20 years ago. The research will continue to be funded but at least there will be no more money coming out of my pocket if I can control it. Sounds to me like you belong in the Psych Ward bitch. No go back to work and make your stupid self useful. Noone gives a shit what you have to say. It’s ok to have your opinion but dont go bashing people when they dont agree with you.
    No, you FUCK OFF!

  21. laikiska

cures for cancer, alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s; vaccinations for aids, bird ‘flu, etc. I am thankful to be living in a time where turning 70 (if one lives in a first world country) is nothing special and daily medical advances are phenomenal… but in the end no amount of plastic surgery, preventive medical measures or chemotherapy etc will prevent the ultimate: death. I completely agree: watching a loved one die of any sort of disease is absolutely awful – I unfortunately have had to witness it in my direct family and close cirlce of friends too many a time. But the question is always whether it is better to prolong a miserable existence of someone who has to be permanently on medication (which has loads of other side effects) after their treatment or worrying about the cancer coming back, etc – or whether it might not be better to make the remaining days as comfortable and peaceful as possible. In my eyes, prolonging a suffering is not humane – it is cruel and selfish most of the time. Clinging to life because life is LIFE… well.

If they could find a cure for Parkinson’s and other diseases by doing stem cell research, I am all for it. But not if it means that in the end all it does is prolong suffering.

  22. tweetyeyes

I completely agree. My grandfather is in a nursing home now and suffers from Parkinsons. It is hard to watch someone go through this. There will be other ways to continue the research. I just dont know that I believe half of what I hear. I just wish I could raise enough money to free Kavorkian. I believe people should not suffer in this manner. Personally I wouldnt mind it if I couldnt feed myself and so forth. Ive asked that if the time comes that my family just put a damn pillow over my face. I wouldnt want people watching me and feeling sorry for me because Ive shit and pissed myself.

  23. Great stuff! Here’s hoping McCaskill and Michael J. Fox continue to make their point that more stem cell research is necessary and the Missouri stem cell initiative passes Nov. 7th!

  24. Jacquelantern

If you all want stem cell research so much… DONATE YOUR OWN DAMN MONEY!! It’s fucking easy you cheap, whiney bastards!! It is not outlawed!! Stop blaming a party from holding “use” back… that is the easy way out… what a Bitch Feast

  25. HelpingOutTheMorons

Rush’s fans are fat, inbred, rednecks who hate anything and everything that isn’t white or Christian.

  26. HelpingOutTheMorons

Maybe Rush meant to say that until Michael J. Fox has experienced the kind of shakes that happen when your maid is running late from getting your ‘medicine’ from a Taco Bell parking lot for you at 3 a.m., then you don’t know what real shakes are.

  27. snakehandlerpro

See that’s what is wrong with you liberals. You think all conservatives are biggoted rednecks. With such a liberal media that RUNS this county you think you’d have control of house and senate eh? But your underestimation of us is exactly what we want, he he. What MJF is talking out of his ass about misrepresents the truth about what the bill proposes and is intentionally misleading. MJF admitted to stopping his meds during election years for campainging purposes in HIS BOOK. Everyone crying about how bad Parkinson’s is is missiing the point! Aigh! Why are liberals so misinformed- it’s mind numbing. I’ve never seen a group make such emotional decisions before. I can’t even debate with a liberal b/c they get all upset and start yelling and changing topics. Ugh- got to stop typing or my head will explode. All you conservatives- get out and VOTE!

  28. HelpingOutTheMorons

    To the douche above:
You get mad that ‘all liberals assume all conservaties are biggoted rednecks.” You then go on to make the assumption that every single person involved in the media is a liberal? Are you drunk or OxyContin’d out? Hypocritical moron. NEXT!

  29. cole007

wait, I want to add one more thing, I hope we can clone Rush, so we can line up all the rush copies at a shooting range and go to town! woo-hoo…

    yee-haaaaw….

obviously, just kidding – this is for “effect.” maybe it will set off another rupublican rant from some closet queer…

  30. Breasts Prove God Exists

Most people here don’t even read or listen to Rush. They don’t call him a hypocrite because he actually is one; all conservatives are ipso facto hypocrites. They just know he’s a conservative, and influencial, so therefore he must be cut down at all costs. Who cares, though, really. They’ve been flogging him for something or another since he broke out nationally in 1988, and they can’t ever quiet him. Even if Rush did go away, it wouldn’t change anything.

By the way, in case you were raised with a different point of view, conservatives don’t echo Rush, he merely states in a public forum what most of the country has always believed. If your parents attended Woodstock, you won’t have any fucking clue what I’m talking about, so continue your braying and mocking.

And I just check out this page for the laughs, damnit. But who can’t go for a little debate? Fuck it…

  31. Cheyenne_1

I think all funding for scientific research should be dictated by the religious right. That way, when years of research finally produce a cure fro any disease, the religiots can say it’s a miracle! and be happy and leave us all alone.

On a footnote this video shows Rush making fun of Michael J. Fox… more amazingly, it shows Michael not angry at Rush, and saying that he realizes that it’s hard for someone who doesn’t have the disease to understand what the symptoms are about. MJF is a class act.

  32. Kristin

Fuck Rush. He doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about.

  33. aurealis

Right on Rush! Alex Keaton is so glib and irresponsible. Does he even know the history of aggressive neurodegenerative diseases? Hell-O everyone: He’s a acting!

  34. aurealis

    Kidding. Vote yes on 2.

  35. Satanista

He wasn’t off his meds, neither was he acting.

@169 — Thanks for your kind words. I work in a busy ER as an RN and I wish that there was more comfort and hope I could offer to these really sick patients and their families.

@170 — You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. There are new medications and new therapies that have been developed in the last decade that have saved countless lives. Heart disease is managable. Diabetes is managable. Cancer survival rates at 5 year intervals are rising for everything except lung cancer directly caused by smoking.

Health care professionals battle diseases like obesity, heart disease and mental illness (including alcoholism) on a daily basis. We aren’t judgemental; we treat whatever comes through the door. Every patient we see (hospital-wide) is in some sort of crisis and needs support, not bashing. If you think hospital work, in any capacity, is easy, you have no idea what hospital work is like.

Try comforting a patient with dementia (go to a nursing home and volunteer for a few hours; they always need help). Try dealing with a patient who has Huntington’s disease — that’s a completely horrid disease.

Any disease or injury with a neuroligical basis simply needs replacement of the neurons (such as stem cells) to regenerate. Neurons simply don’t grow back. Once that pathway is gone, it’s gone. That’s why stem cell research holds such promise; it will help to regenerate new neurons. How could you say no to a child or young adult struggling with spina bifida? How heartless are you?

As you have implied that I am “lazy, soft-hearted liberal” nothing could be farther from the truth. I would appreciate an apology for such disparging remarks.

If not, I suggest you find a nice big rare steak, follow it up with a giant helping of fetticine alfredo, drink heavily and smoke 3 packs of cigaretts a day. That will insure your speedy departure from your pain in the ass status you grandly deserve.

  37. Vanilla_Wonder03

Apparently none of you have ever read Fox’s book where he ADMITTED that he PURPOSELY manipulates his medications to exaggerate his symptoms. He admitted to Diane Sawyer that he did this when he testified before congress.THAT is why Rush was wondering if that is what he was doing THIS time. If you don’t LISTEN and don’t KNOW the context of the remarks, then shut up about it.

  38. RushUSuck

Rush…when did you become an expert in self medication? OH I am so slow…it was in rehab! FU

  39. Cheyenne_1

#187 Hav eyou read Fox’s book?
Didn’t think so. What you paraphrased is wrong.

You need to watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8lsjfjgAA8

  40. mmm...lemonheads

Tell you what, morons who are against this research. Look at my last comment (#120) and then tell me if you’re willing to implant every one of these abandoned zygotes into your body for birth.
    If not, f@ck off.

  41. Truthseeker013

Folks, folks, FOLKS! Cut Rushie some slack. It’s clear that he’s still in oxy withdrawl, and he’s not responsible for what he says. You’ve all forgotten the Republican Mantra *that quickly*?

  42. he’s always been an asshole…no new news there

  43. Bill Umpsar

Limbaugh pimps simple minded bigots with what they want to hear, then laughs all of the way to the bank! Kudos you Pimp! Light up those pimp-igars. Limbo is the Conservopimp

  44. Rush dodged the draft because he had anal zits. He’s a coward and a pussy.
