Rush Limbaugh is an asshole

October 25th, 2006 // 195 Comments

On Monday Rush Limbaugh suggested that Michael J. Fox deliberately went off his medication to exaggerate his Parkinson’s symptoms in a campaign ad for Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill in which he called for stem-cell research. On his syndicated show Limbaugh said:

“I think this is exploitative in a way that’s unbecoming of either Claire McCaskill or Michael J. Fox.”

Although yesterday on his website he backed away from his accusation, saying:

“All I’m saying is I’ve never seen him the way he appears in this commercial for Claire McCaskill. So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act, especially since people are telling me they have seen him this way on other interviews and in other television appearances.”

And then he drove down to the local hospital and yelled at a bunch of patients for being liars. That guy with cerebral palsy who keeps twitching? Liar! That guy who got shot three times in the stomach who keeps bleeding? Liar! They’re all liars. And there’s only one man brave enough to stand up for truth and justice and all that is right: Batman! But he was off fighting a giant mechanical spider or something so they called in Rush Limbaugh.

Wow! Considering Fox has admitted to going off his pills to show his disease in front of congress would you say that was ok then? I think Fox is the A-hole, just because he has a disease does not make him and his views the correct ones. I feel bad for him sure, but that doesn’t make him being the “poster boy” so nobody will disagree witha a handicap person ok.

Plus the whole ad is total Bullshit anyway. Read the actual law and what it will and will not do and you’ll find out how gay the whole thing is.

@ 7,8 you don’t accuse someone of ‘going off their meds’, period. It would take a couple of dittoheads to completely miss the point like that. Also, what Fox is doing is putting a human face to the people that people like Jim Talent are hurting. If it seems wrong not to support this research at NO COST OF HUMAN LIFE by using embryos scheduled to be destroyed by IVF clinics, then that’s an issue you’ll have to take up with your own conscience. If it’s ok with you to let handicapped people die, then so be it, I bet you like kicking puppies too, douchebags.

I’m praying really really hard that all you that oppose this resarch get Parkinson’s. It’ll be funny to watch you do the worm vertically while you pray to be healed.

If I have bronchitis and go to the doctor hoping they will give me something to treat it, I don’t take a bunch of DayQuil before going in, I want them to see that I really am sick and need help. Same principle. Meds only cover up the symptoms, they don’t cure anything. Also, someone I am close to has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and so I’ve read a bit about the meds for it and they don’t sound too great. They need to find a real cure instead of just throwing drugs at people, for that and many other illnesses. End of rant.

Funny, Michael J. Cox didn’t act like he’d just gotten off a Tilt-a-Whirl when he did Boston Legal. Regardless of what you think of Limbaugh, or even your political stance or views on stem cell research, exaggerating the illness to sway the vote is pathetic. And he’s never become a US citizen, so the whole “my fellow Americans” bullshit is disingenuous. Let’s see them take this to another level. Watch them trot out dead celebs in a CGI-enhanced campaign to rail against other causes. James Dean against speeding. William Holden against alcoholism. Kurt Cobain against suicide. Michael Hutchence against jacking-off while hanging yourself with a bedsheet.

Fox going off his meds so people feel sorry for him and feel motivated by guilt to support him and whatever his cause is, is like when charity groups roll out the people in wheelchairs to collect money from you outside of the supermarket. I hate that. So I usually just grab their wheelchairs and push them into the street. Good times.

Fox has admitted going off his meds for effect, like when he was in front of Congress in ’99. The ad is ridiculous because he and his other pro-stem-cell friends like Christopher Reeve act like all we have to do is put a few stem cells in a test tube and we’ll have a cure for everything. And now the media is acting like you can’t criticize anything that comes from the mouth of someone who has had something unfortunate happen to them, just like they did with Cindy Sheehan. Apparently once a person gets parkinsons, he gets to single-handedly determine US policy on stem cell research, or once a mother loses a son, she then gets put in charge of US foreign policy (despite the fact that the vast majority of gold star mothers, if polled, would be in favor of the war).

And I’m actually in favor of stem-cell research!

Ok folks… from what I have been reading, a parkinson’s victim who goes “off meds” would probably NOT be jerking around spastically like MJ Fox was in the ad. The medication allows victims to control themselves enough to speak, but also causes the spastic bodily movements.
Going off meds would probably lead to him being more stiff and unable to speak well.

On Boston Legal, production was scheduled around MJ Fox’s ability to control himself for short periods of time. So, the worst thing you idiots out there can say about him is that he didn’t try to hide the effects of the disease while filming the political ads… and why should he?

@26…You’ve never taken some meds to get through your work day? But still been very sick? He’s just showing the reality of the illness and not covering it up, there’s nothing dishonest in that, quite the opposite. And comparing with all those others who died from self destructive behaviors…that’s just idiotic.

Or advocating war using drug addict radio show hosts who are completely full of shit and on the payroll, only to later hold press conferences saying the exact same thing your detractors said, claiming that because YOU said it, it’s now true. Hey #26: Of course he never looked like that on Boston Legal…ever heard of EDITING? Larry King said the other day that he’s a lot worse than you know and that his scenes are shot and reshot until he gets it right.

Show a little compassion and stop turning this into a lib vs. rightie thing. To be honest, this country is in a mess not because of libbies but because of scumbags like Limbaugh who parrot the party line and refuse to look deeper at what’s wrong. Easy to blame the libbie, eh?

Also: Even Republicans are condemning this scumbag, Limbaugh for making such obscene comments. So what? So he made a commercial for a libbie? You guys had no problem making Terri Schiavo a big deal and using her parents for political gain.

Both sides are scumbags because their business is to get elected and serve their elitist masters. America would be better off to start electing 3rd parties to challenge these jerks power.

At the end of the day, I agree with good republicans. Leave Michael J Fox alone and stop opposing Stem Cell Research because a SMALL percentage of core GOP voters want it banned.
