Rosie O’Donnell wrote the following lengthy diatribe on her blog comparing Britney to Princess Diana:
I remember the tunnel as it appeared on the news, lit by headlights, flashlights, red lights. Between the cement tall pillars was a heap of twisted metal. I saw it then, and I can see it now. Diana dead.
She will be trying to get away, but they will chase her, just as they chased her into that church yesterday. There were dozens of them, jostling their way into sanctuary, elbowing past each other, just to creep closer to her. Even her last-minute, folded-hand prayers can’t be kept sacred. There can be no silent moments in a crowd; no silence, and no secrets.
All this fresh, painful frailty costs her so much, but it lines their pockets very well. A kings ransom was paid for those tabloid-ready cheap shots of her with messy hair, tear-soaked eyes, and the half-smile of a desperate baby girl.
“I’m scared,” she told them yesterday, when they later mobbed her at court. “Move back,” she said. “I’m scared. Stop it. Stop it. I want to get back in the car. Just stop it. Let me get in the car, please.”
Sometimes it really is too much. Internal wires cross. Anxiety hits. Panic sets in the heart. Dread. Fear.
But she asked for it, she’s a public figure.
At eight years old, she bravely stood before a microphone. By 17, she had sold 25 million records. Where were the sidewalk-skinned knees, the chalk stained hands, the monkey bars, the passed notes? A Disney set is not a childhood, no matter how many bright colors they use, or how cheerful the script.
Not a girl, barely even a woman yet, they chased her. A mob of stalkers for whom no stalking laws have been written. Smother. Crush. Flash. Photo Credit. Even Dr. “Get Real” Phil got in on the action. Unreal.

The tunnel is crowded now. There are only inches of separation between vulnerability and disaster.
Britney Spears and Princess Di really are alike. Remember when Britney went to all those countries on humanitarian missions? Or that time Princess Di flashed her vagina to the paparazzi? I saw her do an interview w/ her when she was like 17 years old and just getting famous and you could see Rosie just salivating…it was sickening, really. And to compare Princess Diana to Britney? That is a disgrace! I was no big fan of Diana or anything, but I truly believe Diana wanted to be left alone and didn’t enjoy all the attention. And she did try to do good in the world. Britney is a self indulgent idiot (albeit a mentally sick one) and can’t even do any good for her own children, let alone anyone else in the world (okay, herself probably included). But Britney is also an adult, so I’m sick of people saying poor baby Britney. She is an adult! An adult with her own children that she is destroying. The least she could do is keep her legs closed and stay home once in a blue moon. But she can’t…because she LOVES the attention and can’t live w/o it. Otherwise she wouldn’t do the things she does. #34.. of course. But you fail to see the difference: Princess Di did not invite the paps into her daily life, screw them, and make friends with them. Princess Di was trying to do her own thing. Britney however has no friends and is getting cozy and friendly (and now sexual) with her paps. She goes out to be with them and get attention from them. So I hope you understand that Di never invited any of this, and Britney has invited it with open, desperate arms.

Here is why. we all know that she was a success at one point of her life. She got so tied with the media and the pappoz that her own life slipped away from her, right from under her nose. Let’s see all the factos: she came on to the scene as a child and was a mega star by 17. At 17, I was a very indecisive kid. I didn’t know if I wanted to smoke pot, date boys, go out late to clubs, go away on long weekends with friends, etc. To her, none of those things were possible because her life was planned out for her. She had tours, signings, releasing of this, releasing of that, and so on we can go for pages. She was a little girl who had her parents make all the decision for her. They directed what she could do, with her management team of course. But it was all for the money. When all you see in someone is dollar bills, it becomes really hard to naturally care for that person’s well being if it means losing that green. It’s hard for me, someone who has never met Britney, to make judgments on what happened, but I can only assume based on the facts that I do have. I think Britney realized along the way of her stardom that she is perceived by her closest confidants as a huge money-making machine. She lost her trust for all. I am not trying to justify her behavior on certain occasion at all, I do agree that she’s a bit far-fetched, but the underlying truth is she didn’t get to her current mental stage totally by herself. Can you, yes YOU, imagine what it is like to get up and realize that you ran out of milk and you have to run out to get some, but the second you step outside there are over 100 cameras flashing in your face and you can’t even see where you are walking because you are in the middle of a money-driven crowd…and guess what…you are the bulls eye! Not very comforting, is it?!
I wouldn’t exactly compare her and her behavior to Princess Di, but the obsessive attention she is receiving from the nutso pappoz does send dejavu through me. They don’t let her eat, shit, breathe, shop, live for christ’s sake! I mean, given the girl feeds off of them, but what else is she supposed to do? I believe that she has found comfort with them. She is thinking that her family and everyone who she trusted at one point, are against her and want only money from her. Again, “DUH, and what do the pappoz want?!” But they do everything for her, they are there through everything she does (willingly or not), give her attention, tell her she’s beautiful, fix her flat tires, pump gas for her…I mean really…who wouldn’t love that? But she is paying a HIGH price for it. Her children’s lives. I am not so much sold on Kevin being a great father and being in this for the kids, not the money. I do, however, know that I feel a lot worst for the kids than I do for anyone. They are just fucking kids! They didn’t ask to be born into this madness. I believe in Britney 100%, but her erratic behavior is causing her children a life with their mother. I don’t know why she does certain things, that are quite obvious to all to be irresponsible, but I do know she’s hurting her kids more than herself.
She is being stripped of everything, and believe me, she is at fault, but these fucking pappoz are making her life a living hell. As I said before, she feeds into it, but at this point, she simply doesn’t trust anyone. It is difficult to suffer from Bipolar Disorder, especially if no medication is used.
