Rosie O’Donnell: ‘People Who Criticize Chris Brown Are Racist’

April 5th, 2011 // 140 Comments

“I found this one eating at a Panera. A Panera. It’s a travesty how we treat these people.”

Taking time off from touting MTV’s Teen Mom as a “positive message” for young girls, Rosie O’Donnell is now coming to the aid of Chris Brown who she thinks is being unfairly criticized for beating the living shit out of Rihanna because he’s black. You just read that. Via Popeater:

“I just don’t know why this kid seems to be held to a different standard than anyone else,” O’Donnell said on her Sirius XM show ‘Rosie Radio.’
When Rosie’s executive producer implied there is a racial aspect at play, Rosie replied: “I totally think there is, and I also think it’s why he felt he was safer with Robin Roberts [who is also African-American].” Rosie added that she felt “mildly angry” at Robin while watching her interview Chris.

Granted, Rosie O’Donnell has gone her entire life without ever being a small, defenseless woman, she does have a daughter so you’d assume some sort of perspective would’ve come into play here. Instead, Rosie decided to apply her ultra-liberal viewpoints that make Rachel Maddow look like Dick Cheney and consider any criticism of a black person to be racist in nature. Which is even more disturbing because in a sense she’s equating Chris Brown with Obama. But I guess they all look a like to you, don’t they, Rosie? RACIST!

Someone ought to notify the AirForce just in case that thing tries to scale the Empire State Building.

It’s interesting how everyone wants forgiveness when they do something wrong, but they are so very, very slow to forgive others who have committed wrongs to them or to others.

While I avidly read The Superficial (and have for 4 years), and 99.9% of the time can agree with everything this site says… not mention, the fact that I absolutely cannot STAND Rosie O’Donnell or her general views on pretty much ANYTHING (not to mention the fact that I think Chris Brown needs intense doses of psychological help)… I have to say, she sort of has a point here about unfair judgment. Well, sort of. Chris Brown beat the living shit out of Rihanna, and he SHOULD be punished for it. However, there are so many other people in Hollywood who have done the same thing, and I have yet to see one person as criticized as Chris Brown by Fish or, honestly, anyone in Hollywood in the last 5 or so years. I saw a comment above stating that Charlie Sheen wasn’t as harshly treated for his spousal abuse, as opposed to Chris Brown’s treatment, and someone else said, “Welcome to the first day here.” Bullshit. Charlie Sheen’s spousal abuse stories were NOWHERE near what Chris Brown experienced. Honestly, I think anyone who’s famous and beats a woman to the extend that Chris Brown did should face consequences in the media for many years to come (if not the law, as we always learn the famous get away with pretty much anything), but Chris Brown seems to be the only celebrity who does face it to this extent. Charlie Sheen barely got a slap on the wrist from the media compared to Chris Brown… Charlie’s biggest story has been his insane dive into the depths of sociopathy and delusional warlock powers. Who cares what he did to how many women – all that matters is the fact that this man thinks he’s a warlock and, for the love of God, cannot come up with a better insult than to call everyone who pisses him off a “Turd.” There definitely is an unfair balance here. I don’t think it really has anything to do with race, but Chris Brown has been painted as a ‘Monster’ far more than anyone else in Hollywood in recent years. I think the unbalance here is caused by Rihanna’s star status, and the fact that she’s ‘hot.’ Other actors/musicians who have abused their girlfriends/wives in recent years have, by far, been the ‘star’ of the relationship, as opposed to the Rihanna/Chris Brown relationship. While Rosie’s point might be obscured… she’s got a point about unfair judgments.

Those of you saying that Charlie Sheen hasn’t been criticized for his crap are full of shit!

Sheen can’t even get a job now– he’ll probably OD and die.

At least Chris Brown is still making music and making television appearances, which means that the entertainment industry, namely whomever he works with and for, approves whole-fucking-heartedly of his behavior.

STOP BRINGING UP RACISM where it’s not relevant to the situation. There are people out there that are really putting up with racists– CHRIS BROWN AIN’T one of them.

@Gravyleg. You make some interesting points. First, by no means do I side with Chris Brown. I think he’s an immature ungrateful brat who doesn’t appreciate the awesome life that he could have. My point is, that black people do not have the media influence to sway public opinion nearly to the degee that white people have. If Charlie Sheen isn’t being worshipped as I said above (I still stand by tha i.e a “Truth Tour”), he definitely isn’t being vilified the way Chris Brown is – for doingvery similar, if not worst, actions. And please don’t be confused; Black people didn’t forgive OJ or Michael. Black people sided with them because anyone with even an elementary school education of American history knows, without out a doubt, that blacks have been gravely mistreated by the judicial system in this country. That’s not even an argument. Crooked and racist cops and politicians have done HORRIFIC things to blacks throughout histor – merely because the color of their skin. So, it wasn’t a matter of “forgiving” Oj or Michael, it was a matter of standing up when everyone else just assumed their guilt before they even showed up to a first day of court. And yes, race played a factor in (some) of those people assumptions. Not talking all, but in a country where whites are the majority “some” is a lot of people that have a lot of power of opinion. Denying racist undertones in situations like these is the most offensive thing of all. This is America: we’re known for our racist injustices.

ROD is one sad large sack o dumb. And no white celeb’s got off easy some people are just dumb it’s unreal. I don’t remember seeing any pics of any beat to hell and even bitten women that Charlie or Mel beat. Words and actions big difference. After seeing the picture of Rihanna on the cover of rolling stones. I feel any one who would beat up any other part of that girl but her booty should be jailed for life!
People won’t let it go because he hasn’t accepted it as something he did and will have to live with. Instead he acted sorry for like a week then wants it to be like nothing happened. People should not be asked to drop it or forget it . If he accepted that he fucked up bad and truly showed it eventualy people will forgive. No matter how many wish coins chris brown throws in the fountain the world will never forget

I’ll be upfront and say that I haven’t read a single one of these comments, so I’m sure this has been covered before.
But I will say this bluntly.
If you commit a crime you are as much a monster whether you are black, white, yellow, blue, purple, or whatever fucking colour.
I don’t care how much melanin you have. Commit a monstrous act, you’re a monster.
This kind of blind acceptance of a horrible deed just because the person that committed has dark skin is a hell of a lot more racist than anyone else that thinks the same way I do ever will be.
