I’m very disappointed in the title, Fish. Women who are victims of domestic abuse should not be classified as “idiots.” This is a form of slut shaming.
How does this constitute slut-shaming? Slut shaming is the degrading of women for expressing their sexuality, whether within or out of, the conventional society… usually it falls in the latter and refers to women behaving sexually against the sexist norms.
We could argue that bashing her for being with ChrisB is somehow slut-shaming because it is the cultural/sexist expectation for a woman to LEAVE her abuser…. but ultimately, give me a break….this applies to both sexes. Should we really be supporting her decision to stay with her abuser? Considering ALL the resources she has??? Besides the reflection and the response of her fan base may stir up some reflection… does it have to be so mean and insensitive? Of course not but the
feedback is valid.
This is beyond the point of feminism and traverses into rationality and common sense. We would all tell a male friend who was being abused to leave their abuser also…. This has nothing to do with her being female. She is obviously suffering from low self-esteem and self-worth, but these are human issues, not sex-specific. She needs help yes, and deserves compassion yes… but it is not sexist, or slut-shaming.
