1) The man makes millions to be a star. It is fans like this lady who make that at all possible.
2) A-Rod is definitely a donkey’s rear. During his very unproductive stay at Texas, I took my son to Picture Day. This was a promotion between the Rangers and Fuji. Passes were given to a certain number of fans to line the warning track and meet and take pictures with the Rangers players.
This was 2002, the year before Palmeiro was all the rage. Palmeiro was the first Ranger to start along the line of thousands of fans, and he was (graciously) the last player to leave the field prior to the game.
Other players/coaches also made their rounds. One player that I expected to be a jerk was John Rocker. However, he was the kindest of all. When the Rangers personnel sent with him (he was the only one with an escort, probably to “babysit”) would not allow him time to take a picture with my son, then 5 years old, he told my boy, “Go further down the line and I’ll find you.”
We rushed about ten yards down, but we were stuck behind about five rows of people. Rocker saw us and told the other fans to “let that little blue-eyed boy through.” A rope was set up to keep fans back, and it ran through the back of my son’s head in the pic, so Rocker pulled the rope down to make the pic nicer. He told my son, “You don’t smile in baseball pictures, kid.” So he didn’t. He then told my son that if I sent it to the Rangers front office, he’d sign it and send it back to us. But he got traded or released (don’t remember).
This is my son’s favorite picture ever. He doesn’t know who John Rocker is or any of the controversy surrounding him. But on that spring day, he was a hero to my little boy.
Why do I single out A-Rod as a jerk?
On that same day the Raffy and Rocker were kind and generous with their pre-game time, A-Rod also came out to circle the field.
Of course, everyone was vying for his attentions. My son was finally going to get to get his picture when A-Rod looked up, saw the leggy, well-endowed woman next to him, and pushed my son away to take a picture with a “hottie.”
Again, my son knew nothing of the good player he was. My boy just loves baseball and the Rangers. To this day, he loves Raffy (controversy and all), Rocker, Reuben Sierra, Orel Hershiser (sorry about spelling), Hank Blalock, Mark Texhiera (sorry, again), Michael Young, and many other players/coaches who took the time to make a little boy feel like a big-leaguer for just a little while.
And to this day, he swears whatever team A-Rod plays for. If he ever came back to the Rangers, it would break his heart. He might even drop the Rangers. But he hates the Yankees for no other reason than A-Rod. Jeter is one of his favorite players.
He’s even decided third is a better position that short.
A-Rod, when you decide to put yourself in the public eye, you are going to be inconvenienced. Should you ever have the opportunity to give my boy the finger, don’t be surprised if a beautiful, well-mannered 10-year-old boy doesn’t give it to you first. And he’ll do it knowing his mother will not ground him for it.
i really like this i think it pretty cool!!!!!!!!!!
The filmmaker believes that there is so much drama in real life is happening in Australia for the moment that we must take advantage of the situation and make these exciting stories on film. "Drug traffickers working for the airlines, shootings in Sydney, Melbourne Gangland all, the Fitzgerald investigation … I think it's the over-supply of great stories and great characters seemingly untapped
