Ummmmmm….it is not against the law to wear a bikini in Dubai. I live here and YES bikinis are allowed….it’s topless sunbathing that is not allowed. But definately, noone even raises an eyebrow if you wear a bikini. Get your facts straight.
Many of the posts here got it exactly right: Dubai is for the most part a big JOKE. A land full of contradictions, extreme inequality, pretentiousness, modern day slave labor (I kid you not!)…just to name a few.
And, no people, Paris will not be thrown in jail for wearing a bikini. What! In this land of contradictions. The beauty industry, though, is what is HOT there in those mainly Gulf Arab countries though. The money these Arabs spend on cosmetics, cosmetic surgery, and skin whitening products is unbelievable! They try soooooo hard to change their skin colors and wear such heavy foundations and powders. Actually, most arab men even admit to this about arab women.
Getting back to Paris though, in Dubai, the land of major contradictions, even if she did something considered more “extreme” than just wearing a bathing suit, she WOULD most likely get away with it because of her celebrity status. Others, though, would most likely be thrown in jail and labeled as “prostitutes.”

It’s just like anywhere else……fame, money and good looks can virtually guarantee your freedom(even just the 2nd one sometimes, but moreso with 1 & 2 and especially all 3(if you’re a woman)), cultural contradictions and hypocrisy be damned…..especially when one culture’s tourist sector might be going straight down the tubes financially because most regular western people(as in, mostly-without-exception absent of the first, usually almost destitute(by comparison) of the 2nd and usually significantly lacking the third(again, by comparison) as well) are afraid to venture into “that” region for fear of being beheaded.
