Because I did see a PBS interview, and it was impressive the amount of composure and apoliticity she had. I think that’s the veneer (V for Veneer–just kidding), but who is Ms. Portman, really? If you got to know her, is she strongly opinionated? Does she go out in the middle of the night looking for chocolate or dirty magazines?
Does she have an invisible jet to go with her invisible personhood, or maybe she swims under the waves with the boomers to practice maintaining a small surface profile?
If she stood in Central Park with a few leaves in each hand, and put her arms up, I don’t think anyone would notice for about a year.
ps. her clothes are perfectly color coordinated for Fall, whoever picked that outfit probably has a degree in coloriometry–you could split hairs with the precision of that palette. And her hair is just radiant. You know, all those other personal comments are kind of gross, and offensive and vulgar. Plenty of people support the moderates and good people in Israel, and Judaism, and that shouldn’t be made into an issue, with an actor. There’s a huge difference between some right-wing hawk (of most any persuasion) trying to stir up violence, and a gentle, accomplished actor who is trying to represent the nicer side of Judaism, and that reasonable people adhere to that.
