To all of you morons complaining that Vick received too harsh a sentence because he “only” killed dogs: it’s funny how little value the black community places on young black men. The lot of you are killing each other all the time, the most dangerous thing to a young black man is another young black man. Yet the black community rarely condems this behavior with any sort of concerted action, the likes of which you folks are so capable of when you decide to boycott a company you feel is “racist”.

So, until the black community decides to value the lives of young black men, why should the rest of the country? Maybe worry about becoming educated, rather than an unemployed thug, and the country will care about your fate.

Also, my German Shepherd is considerably more intelligent, kind, loyal and brave than the average young black male. Thus, I place a far higher value on her life, and the lives of dogs in general, than the average black male. Perhaps you folks complaining about Vick’s sentence being too harsh are confused about who the animals are.

I just don’t view dogfighting, even to the cruel extent to which he perpetrated it, as a serious enough crime to warrant him being jailed for that long. He’s already been punished enough. Fine him more money if you have to (he’s already lost an estimated $140+ million) or suspend him from the NFL for a long period, but to take away his freedom for that long when people who’ve committed far more serious crimes have walked? I just don’t see the fairness or justice in that.

And for the record, nowhere did I claim to be some sort of saint carrying out “acts of mercy for the downtrodden”. I’m simply calling it as I see it, and in this case, the guy caught a raw deal.

Ok, on the merits, I don’t think many rational people would argue that Vick deserves any jail time for what happened. But this isn’t about the merits. This is about sending a message. Black people have been acting up like crazy the past few decades, and its about time we start taking action. Placing Vick, one of the richest, most famous blacks in the USA, in prison for two years for some ridiculous dog fighting charge sends an important message. It lets ALL blacks know that they better mind their p’s and q’s because no matter how rich or famous you are, you are still black and we can throw your sorry arse in prison and take all your money if we feel like it. Had this happened to a white person, sure, I’d agree 100% with all the people calling this unfair. But it didn’t happen to a white person, and it never would. Actually, a Pit Bull is not a breed of dog. It is a general classification into which various breeds fall. Selective breeding may have produced a generally recognizable look of a “Pit Bull”, but you can’t actually say that it’s a breed.

As far as the statistic that, “The number one breed responsible for fatalities in the US and Canada is the Pitt Bull” that’s all fine and dandy. But you’re mistaking the link between effect – fatalities – and cause – Pit Bulls. If certain types of people, and I’m using the term loosely, are drawn towards Pit Bulls because of their tough and dangerous reputation, it stands to reason that there will be more asshole “owners” who create poorly socialized animals, thus creating this image and statistic that Pit Bulls are more dangerous than other breeds.

It’s kind of when you look at criminal statistics in the U.S. Guess which race is responsible for the largest percentage of violent crimes, despite not being the largest population?

Yes, Vick deserves to be punished. However his punishment should have been relative to how those BEFORE him have been punished and relative and in proportion to other crimes like rape and murder. The sentence should have been no longer than 12 months. Going further is bullsh*t. If they add on state charges and more time to 23 months and give like a 36 month sentence, than complete and utter crap. Blacks should march for Vick.

It’s still just a dog. If a dog is on a busy freeway, it’s more dangerous for humans to stop for the dog. You should never stop on a freeway for a dog.

You have got to be a sick individual if you think the value of the life of a dog is equivalent to the life of a human being.

I’ve seen people like yourself. This last spring I almost hit a woman that stopped on the freeway to allow a bunch of ducklings cross the street. I had to swerve to miss here running over the baby ducks. The guy behind me was not so lucky. There was a 3 car accident over baby ducklings that were turfed as soon as they crossed the lane the woman had stopped her car in. Almost everyone had to be taken away in an ambulance.

Please remember this when you decide to stop for an animal on the freeway. You’re not doing anyone any favors.
