“Free” health care..that is what everyone wants. Nothing is “free”. You don’t shop in any store where some of the stuff is free. We pay for ourselves or we pay for others through high taxes. If you have health insurance and get 10 visits to the chiropracter included, those visits are not “free”. If I hear another person say “Well I get 10 free trips to the chiropracter..might as well use them.” I’ll fing explode. Things are going to have to get much worse before people wake up and figure out the reality of the world.
Stop paying for the war and fund that money towards universal health care.

I agree with everything you wrote.
I hate working my ass off for a decent salary (yes I’m one of the lucky ones) and then having to pay nearly half to taxes. When I was younger I used to say, “I dont care about taxes because I’m lucky enough to have a job and that money pays for police, firemen, clean water and so on.” But the reality is what you wrote. Two billion a day to fight unnecessary wars. My annual taxes cover the cost of about 1/4 of a small bomb which we drop like its a piece of gum.
Now I get to revel in the joyful knowledge that my grandchildren (if I ever have any) will be paying for irresponsible people who bought bigger houses than they could afford and bonuses for wallstreet reps that cheated the system to earn huge revenues. Not to mention the stimulus package which hasnt saved the economy but still ballooned our debt. Meanwhile, every other country on the planet is jacking us on inequitable trade tariffs and we’re sitting with a standard 2% tariff on our exports. Its insane and more importantly, unsustainable. We stay on this course and we are seriously screwed. Forget the lack of customer service or lack of drive among our youth (I just read an article where the kids of today were blaming the older generations for “raising them” badly and thats why they suck so much), if we continue in this direction, if the trends dont change, we’ll be mired in an economic hell that we may never (never!) recover from. Just look at some of the more mature economies of the world–its their hubris that cost them. And its costing us now.
Why choose between funding two bad ideas? Why not cut them both?
The war is bad for a lot of obvious reasons, but healthcare spending is bad for more subtle reasons. As Carl noted, “free” is a misnomer: somebody has to pay for every test and doctor visit, just not the person who is consuming it at the time. That destroys any incentive to keep costs down as a provider or consumer of medical care and is, in fact, one of the main factors driving health care costs higher.
Case in point, there are two fields in medicine in which procedure costs and coming down while quality of service and outcome are improving. They are? Lasik and cosmetic surgery! Why? Free market for both. No government or insurance involvement for either.
I’m all for creating some sort of health care safety net, but our whole system better have some sort of price system and out-of-pocket consumer cost, or we are going to go bankrupt on a bullet train.
Nah, this world is and always has been run by the elites. The purpose of all these wars is to bankrupt this nation while stealing the resources of the planet. It’s really that simple.
The banks, industries, etc., are all part of the cabal.

Elected officials should not be treated any differently. They should not collect their salary for the rest of their lives. They should not have a separate retirement plan.
