Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers apparently attempted suicide Tuesday night, according to The Sun:
Paramedics answering a 999 call found him slumped on the floor. But they had to call police after he refused treatment at the scene for more than 30 minutes. A source said: “This is very sad. It was the opinion of those present that he tried to take his life.”
The 33-year-old – who has been battling a drink problem – was finally taken to a hospital near his home in Maida Vale, Central London, on Tuesday night.
He was discharged in the early hours yesterday. Asked later how he was, red-eyed Meyers told The Sun: “No comment.”
Wait. Do the British just let people out of the hospital mere hours after they attempt suicide? Because they’re either light years ahead of us in therapy or adopted our intrepid spirit of not giving a shit.

I won’t suggest it, I’ll say it outright. Yes, it would have been. That’s why people from Europe and Canada come to the US seeking care instead of vice-versa. Though that’ll most likely come to an end once we get our own “free” care here.

Care to explain exactly how they would have kept him there? It’s pretty difficult to get an independant adult who isn’t a danger to others sectioned for one suicide attempt if they appear to have regained control of themselves, particularly a celebrity with expensive lawyers. The law in the U.K or the U.S doesn’t just let doctors keep people against their will with impunity, you have to be acting consistently crazy.
As for your second comment, stop watching fox news. There are private hospitals in Europe and Canada as well, why would people be flocking to the U.S. for treatment even if they wanted to pay. The only times I’ve ever heard of people leaving the country for treatment is some experimental/trial therapy that isn’t available anywhere else.
James, actually Americans go to Canada to get healthcare and prescriptions they can afford. And Europeans don’t come here for healthcare – the systems there are better than ours, why would they? What drivel have you been watching?
In England, as well as here, you have to put someone on a psychiatric hold to keep them against there will. If there was doubt that Meyers attempted suicide and he demanded to be released, they had to let him go.

The UK has the worst healhcare system, if ur poor u can’t get shit for help there. If you’re rich you still have to seek help but you can get it tho. I’ve been over visiting a friend and he had like back pain and had to go to a hospital, watit 4 hours and at the end just got some pain killers, I was like wtf man,… been to Germany too and it’s like day and night, actually felt like britain wasn’t European at all when it comes to this topic.
