Joe Rogan got banned from the Comedy Store yesterday because of the video below that’s been circulating the internet the past couple of days. The video features Joe Rogan tearing into Carlos Mencia onstage for stealing other comedians’ material, a fact that’s apparently pretty universally accepted in the industry. The video is 10 minutes long, but if you can make it through the confusing editing and horrible sound it’s a pretty interesting watch. I always knew Carlos Mencia was annoying, I just never realized he was a fucking thief. I mean how do you steal other people’s material and still manage not to be funny? It’d be like robbing a bank and ending up with a giant bag full of dead chickens. Score!

Mencia is just one of many things wrong with Comedy Central the last few years. Used to be a really great network, then they let unfunny assholes like this douche get their own shows that try to rip off Chappelle and genuinely funny people who don’t have to try so hard and it all goes to pot.

Joe Rogan is hands down the funniest stand-up I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen quite a few, including Carlos Mencia. While I agree the one-liner about “who’s gonna build” it could be thought up by many, Mencia has “borrowed” from other comics many times. What’s interesting is that the time I saw Carlos perform, Bobby Lee was one of the openers. He was funnier than Carlos by far. Rogan may be in-your-face, but he’s correct. Those who actually go to stand-up shows will agree with me. Those who just watch Comedy Central or Leno or Letterman will think Rogan is just an envious, pissed off a-hole. He’s just pissed off.

Have you seen his stand up? Don’t go by Fear Factor (he’s just the host) or Talk Radio (he was funny, but he was just playing a character) or his UFC gig. Go see him live. Seriously, I’ve seen Rogan twice and each time he killed. People’s faces and stomachs hurt because they were laughing his entire set. The first time he was “on” because he was recording an album. If you’ve ever seen his stand-up, then you would know what I’m talking about. You will never, ever see him do stand-up on network TV or basic cable because he’s too dirty most of the time. Seinfeld will give you a good chuckle, but for balls-out laughter (isn’t that what you want from a comedian?), Rogan crushes it. Gallagher and Carrot Top are lame. Hell, Mencia is funnier than those guys. But the fact that you guys point to those mainstream/vanilla comics illustrates the fact that you really don’t know much about stand-up outside of what you’re fed on basic cable.

It is well known in comedy circles that Mencia rips other comedians off. Comedians have a generally low standard of ethics when it comes to what they say on stage, but stealing is forbidden. That’s their line, and Mencia crossed it a long time ago. Mencia is a belligerent, untalented ass who was only hired by Comedy Central because they needed an “ethnic” comedian after the vastly superior Dave Chappelle left the network. Mencia doesn’t “tell it like it is”. He makes blatantly obvious statements (white people do this, black people do that), and the “beaner” stuff was done years ago (and much better) by Cheech (who is a real Mexican, as opposed to Mencia, whose real name is Ned Holness, and he’s Honduran and German, not Mexica) and Chong.
