Joanna Krupa’s nude PETA ad worked

December 1st, 2009 // 226 Comments

Because they didn’t make it to actually save animals, PETA’s latest ad featuring Joanna Krupa has already managed to piss off the Catholic Church. Fox 411 reports:

“The fact is that cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees,” Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in a statement. “Moreover, pet stores don’t rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious claims.”
“PETA is a fraud,” Donohue continued. “It also has a long and disgraceful record of exploiting Christian and Jewish themes to hawk its ugly services. Those who support this organization sorely need a reality check. They also need a course in Ethics 101.”
Krupa issued a statement responding to the Catholic League, saying: “As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads. I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenseless of God’s creation.”

Of course, this is all just smoke and mirrors to cover up the real travesty here: Nipple airbrushing. Seriously, are you kidding me, PETA? Joanna Krupa basically has a Crucifix jutting out of her vulva, but even after Keeley Hazell, a nipple would be too much? Fuck this. I’m going outside to punt Pomeranians.

    God thank you nissa that’s exactly what I’m saying it’s ridiculous how it’s cosidered so wrong to hurt and animal and it is but when the issue of pro life and pro choice come up it’s immediattly ” oh it’s my body I can do what i want”. People need to stop concerning themselves so much with animals and realize They need to focus on the unborn babies who has no protection at all!

    yall wanna talk about animals being defenseless, i guess yall support the little puppies when sometimes, they sometimes kill young children, or when that lady got attacked by a chimp. how come us humans are afraid to punch a bear and make it angry, knowing it’ll put one of us to our death.

    i also bet God wouldn’t like the way yall are using a crucifix. if animals is one of God’s creations, yall should respect the creator.

    nothing, but ignorance made this organization.

    sure, they don’t choose wise ways preparing our natural dinner. but yall should choose wisely about trying to prevent it.

    now if yall don’t mind, im going to eat some chicken :D

    @Nissa, Heather.

    Meh. I was raised in a religious setting as well. Specifications aside, since religious affiliation isn’t an issue here, maybe PETA used the wrong symbolism to portray their agenda, but that doesn’t mean it was supposed to offend in that way. If you’re gonna bash her, you might as well “pick up your cross” and bash the other images with crosses on them, bands with inverted cross symbols, and other media “abusing” this. Then again, you could always just tell me you already are doing that, so whether you’re the hypocrite or not, that’s for you to decide.

    Secondly, why are we discussing abortion and human rights again? I know enough of the Bible that God told us to be “good stewards of his creation” as well. Since when are you in a position to egotistically say humans are better and/or that animals are in a distant second? Great examples you are. All you said just added further to the stigma and stereotyping that atheists and other fanatics have of your/our religion, by making such comments.

  10. Bunhey

    @ Nissa, Heather

    Lastly, when you make such comments about abortion and self-respect, and when you don’t acknowledge the other proponents or show courtesy, all you’re doing is acting with the same attitude as the other people with whom you disagree, except with your religious twists. In the end, you still come off with the same aura of bias. I’m not saying you should be condescending or patronizing about it, but all it does is just flame each other back and forth. So yes, you’ve done nothing to help your religious causes except add yourselves to the statistics they have of people like you.

    Just stick with issues of the picture, and don’t add more to the fire and blow this out of proportion anymore than you can handle and/or defend.

  11. adan gonzalez

    i see that yall are talking about abortion. while yall are on that topic, id like to say that yall should remember aDoPtion.

  12. brent

    I don’t agree with what most of PETA does I think that people should never buy from stores because most stores buy from puppy mills with despicable conditions and animals with genetic defects. breeding dogs every heat cycle cages so small the dogs can’t even stand.

  13. Nissa

    @ Bunhey

    First off, I said I am not a Catholic. And I never once said I was a Christian. Please read carefully before you respond. I do not know Heather, and can’t speak of her biases, nor do I completely agree with her usage of my example to further her own agenda. Also to address your point about media and entertainment usages of the cross, the upside down cross is an homage to the anti-Christ. Bands use it that way to A) show their Satanic belief to their fans, or B) appeal to a darker crowd. I don’t go searching for causes to preach about. I happened across this one and after reading 100 comments, I decided to interject. It isn’t hypocrisy to not search for something to speak out against. It would be hypocrisy to advocate for one (or listen to one) and speak out against the other.

    I said animals come in a distant second to humans because as humans we have first the responsibility to help and love each other, and if you want to bring religious dogma into this, the Bible also says that humans have dominion over animals in Genesis, making animals come in a distant second. Again, I repeat, I am not advocating the mistreatment of animals, but our first priority should be humanity. I said absolutely nothing about abortion in my post. Get your facts and responses straight.

    My issue was with the comments in this comment section, not with the picture. I gave my opinion on the picture, and my opinion is my opinion. To tear it down because you don’t agree is asinine and pointless. Take your own advice and stick to the issue of the picture.

    @Adan Gonzalez

    I did talk about adoption. Why does no one read posts thoroughly anymore.

    Bunhey,
    No I do not listen to shit music that has disrepects the catholic church it’s shitty and distasteful. And I will “bash her” as much as I please she has the cross covering her naked body it’s meaning to be seductive, it’s discusting. I brought the issue of abortion up because this women in the picture says how animals are the worlds most defenseless creatures which is false unborn children are. And no you obviously do not know much about the bible because in genesis it is said how god made Adam in likeness of himself and was given a soul. I’m not saying in any way anminals should be hurt or mistreated because they are gods creatures as well but we are gods children, please get your facts straight

    @Bunhey, I love you.
    Anyways, I just hate how ignorant some people are still giving money to these hypocritical people running PETA. Apparently all you have to do a stamp a cute puppy on a website and say “Hey, save this animal! Give us your money!” and they have all the money they need to slaughter all their animals.
    On the other hand, these ads are getting more and more ridiculous everytime.

  21. Angelee

    We were born naked, so i don’t see what’s wrong with it.

  22. Heather

    haha that doesn’t even deserve a response

  23. wow this is like the second time in a month PETA has gotten a hot chick naked.

  24. Paul

    That picture is just yummy, I mean look at those cute little dogs

  25. The Rev

    This would be impactful…if Only PETA didn’;t actually KILL THE ANIMALS THEY SHELTER!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Kay

    @Heather
    Sigh.
    When will people realize that their personal faith is just that. Their PERSONAL FAITH. And cannot/should not be applied to *anyone else*.
    You can think whatever you like about abortion when it comes to your own choices, but to judge anyone else based on your own PERSONAL BELIEF is retarded. You cannot expect someone else to force themselves to agree with your religious belief just because you yourself think its correct. Get off your high horse.

  27. muski27

    Cry me a river Roman Catholic Church, corporations continually abuse Hindu Iconography for gimmicks such as Hindu Gods on toilet seats, toilet tissues, shoes, bikinis etc. Catholicism is the most intolerant butchering and plundering creed along with Islam, it is timethey got a bit of their own back! Well done PETA!

    Shut up and shove it somewhere. Stop sounding so damn righteous and for God’s sake, it’s a freaking picture, calm down.

    @ Bunhey
    you rock socks.

  31. VampJoseph

    She’s fucking hot, but I can see why the catholics are pissed, rofl

  32. katie

    first of all, they trying to make just a point i mean peta just trying to say be an angel and apodt not buy but the catholic church is so stupid that they cant see though the message cause they distrated by the chest “oh its profoubdity because she naked but maybe that its tribg to say that but the cholitic church is so stupid anyways

    this is stupid to throw a big fit or something so small like this oh wait a minute they did this to the davinci code too but here the thing because people actullay question it is why the chuch got so upset over something that small like a stiple movie that made millions

  33. anonymous

    Heather, you are a moron. Just shut up before you embarrass yourself any longer with your incoherent sentences and your mind boggling lack of common sense. Have you ever once rubbed the two brain cells you have and find out that humans are animals?

  34. Juan

    Shes really gorgeous. But PETA should go to hell. Beastiality mofos.

  35. start your engine

    Doggy style, obviously

    I see double standard here.since begining,people commented using their personal opinion.heather and some other people also commented using their personal opinion based on their personal belief.before,many people here insulted their belief,but when they answered it,suddenly it becomes ‘forcing personal belief’ to others.hmm..I’m not catholic anyway.but it seems that noble values have changed among people today.if you try to be good and talk good,then you are hypocrites.honest people are those who talk dirty and ask others to do against noble values

    I’m all for nudity when it comes to the Peta adds and all, but to pose nude as an ANGEL in a CHURCH with a CRUCIFIX covering your nipples and such is seriously disrespectful to those who consider these things to be important religiously. Peta knew what it was doing obviously… they do it all the bloody time and it’s partially why I no longer believe in them or their self-professed ’causes’. They should just go back to boycotting Canada’s maple syrup or something else that makes people laugh rather than insulting the millions of Catholic’s they decided to anger this time.
    Also, after looking through the comments and laughing my ass off a few times, I just wanted to say how disappointed I am in most of those who posted. It’s disturbing that so many people still have that priest/pedophile stigma stuck on their brains… I hate to break it to you guys, but the Catholic church is not the only religion that has had what they consider to be ‘problems’ with pedophilia. Sexual deviants are everywhere… in every religion, every country. Pedophiles can also be members of PETA O___o;

    @Heather: Abortion was not the center of this campaign and some would not agree with your certainty that the embryo is a defenseless animal or even an animal at all yet. That is YOUR opinion and speaking out about that topic, ignorantly I might add, is not going to help you convince others to agree with you.

    @Angelee: I’m with you on that… We were put on this earth nekkid and at some point after we die we are nekkid. The Nudity was not a complaint I’d have had with the add at all. Though I dont think the nudity alone was the issue here at all =/

  43. JimP

    What is this ad supposed to accomplish other than repulse every well meaning person who sees it?

    This ad is so counterproductive I’m beginning to think PETA is in the dog killing business for all this is going to help.

    For the irrational haters out there, the anger and venom is deeper then Lake Tahoe; you need to take a long walk and rethink your emotional state.

  44. Kevin

    Amen for PETA, they support animal rights.. and they support FUCKING hot women getting naked, thank you again PETA. As for why they did it in a church, when its so clear many religious people don’t give a rats ass about any other rights of any other species on this planet besides humans.. I will never know.

    It’s a good message, but with images like this I really don’t understand the necessity for nudity. I mean, this add doesn’t have anything to do with not wearing fur, so why is she naked? To grab people’s attention I suppose, but the people who notice it only seem to care about the body projected, not the actual message :\
