Joanna Krupa’s nude PETA ad worked

December 1st, 2009 // 226 Comments

Because they didn’t make it to actually save animals, PETA’s latest ad featuring Joanna Krupa has already managed to piss off the Catholic Church. Fox 411 reports:

“The fact is that cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees,” Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in a statement. “Moreover, pet stores don’t rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious claims.”
“PETA is a fraud,” Donohue continued. “It also has a long and disgraceful record of exploiting Christian and Jewish themes to hawk its ugly services. Those who support this organization sorely need a reality check. They also need a course in Ethics 101.”
Krupa issued a statement responding to the Catholic League, saying: “As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads. I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenseless of God’s creation.”

Of course, this is all just smoke and mirrors to cover up the real travesty here: Nipple airbrushing. Seriously, are you kidding me, PETA? Joanna Krupa basically has a Crucifix jutting out of her vulva, but even after Keeley Hazell, a nipple would be too much? Fuck this. I’m going outside to punt Pomeranians.

as a practising catholic, i agree that the church has been impicated in a lot of horrible things recently adnf frequently say a lot of things that sound ridiculously antiquated and unrealsitic, but this ad is such a load of bullshit. it is offensive to the catholic faith, it is semi-pornographic and it has absolutely nothing to do with its stated aim. peta are a load of shit

Winged angels and crucifixes were never Christian symbols to begin with. Winged angels can be traced back to the Sumerians (A culture that was anything but Christian), and Je$u$ Chri$t was simply nailed to a common execution device of his day. Catholicism, on the other hand, is a modified version of Christianity that adopted a shit-load of Pagan influences, in order to ease heathens into the religion who were accustomed to worshipping more than one god; hence the ´saints´.

In other words, who gives a fuck? =D

  6. stupid americans | December 1, 2009 at 8:36 pm

that has what to do with anything?
both the wings and crucifix are clearly identifiable as catholic symbols now, so your point is completely irrelevant

The only poor dumb defenseless animals I see are the moron models whose agents tell them to “pose naked for the kitties and puppies and Jesus.” In my eyes, posing naked under such a pretense makes you legally retarded.

#34- Cool observation about the feathers-I actually had not paid that any mind

I think the religious imagery was useless and seemed like a bit of an attention-whoring move on their part.

Although I like animals as much as the next person I cannot really get behind the extremism that PETA preaches. The message, ideally would be to have a certain respect for living creatures and such, however they go overboard by demonizing anyone who does ANY little thing they disagree with.

Im 16 years old I’m a catholic but not a religious one at all I don’t believe in most of the thing in that religion but I complelety agree with the morals. People tend to not like catholics because they say it how it is they don’t spare feelings to make you feel better , and there not telling you it to make you feel like shot, there trying to save you from the evil in the world. Now their are ignorant people in the world who believe it their life and they can do why they want which is true you can do what you want god gave us that power with free will if you believe that but whether you do or not it doesn’t change the fact that there is right and wrong. This

I don’t agree with some of the stances PETA takes, but they still make good points some of the time, and this is one of those occassions. There is absolutely no reason to have a purebred dog. End of sentence. A mixed breed can do everything a purebreed can do and are usually just as cute. I’ve had nothing but mutts my entire life and they’ve all been amazing dogs.

So to #18 and 31 (same person), you are truly an idiot and completely heartless. A purebreed is not a “better animal”. And quite frankly, I suggest you take a look at your local animal shelter, because they’re horribly underfunded, meaning that very few, if any, of your tax dollars are being used to care for these defenseless animals. Why on earth should they all be killed because their owners were too irresponsible to get them spayed/neutered or were so heartless as to abandon them? You are completely heartless and a disgusting individual.

This ad doesn’t make any sense anyway, because it isn’t their anti-fur campaign. There is no reason to have her naked and covered with a cross other than to get attention. It’s disrespectful to Christians and shouldn’t have been done. It’s a poor ad making a very good statement about animal adoptions.

Picture is wrong because it’s using the crucifix which Jesus died on to save us all. Once again even if someone doesn’t believe this you can’t just go around doing whatever the fuck you want wrong… And it’s honestly hilarious that this women claims to be catholic because well the whole posing naked is a different issue but that fact that she says the animals are the most defenseless creatures when in reality it’s unborn babies who have literally no defense at all. Yeah it sounds cliché but it’s 100 % true and if some if you disagree.. Remeber ignorance is bliss an peoples selfish excuses for abortions are discusting if anyone would like to argue please go ahead…

  17. Heather | December 2, 2009 at 2:43 am

And also one more thing for the arguments like” chritians are hypocrites with sexuality etc”.. It’s not the church and it’s belief it’s the individuals because they have the choice just like everyone. Everyone needs to stop making fucking excuses. I mean yeah I have done things that are wrong, really wrong and I know that, that’s what people need to step up and do instead of making their own rules of what right and wrong, because despite what religion you believe in or what religion you don’t believe in the morals of the church on things like drugs, sex, alcohol, abortion etc are correct no people are obviously not going to follow them but these morals are the morals people should base there lives on because these are the morals of good people.

  18. Heather | December 2, 2009 at 3:04 am

And also for the people who tend to use the excuse that the catholic church is a hypocrite especially in thing invovling sexuality, this is completly false because the church does not go against own beleifs the individuals do. Whether you believe in this religion or that religion or none at all you can’t argue the fact that the morals, not the religion, but the morals of the catholic church are those of a good persons, and I fully believe everyone should live their life by these morals involving sex, drugs, alcohol, abortion etc. Also yes animals are living things so they should be cared for and not mistreated in any way, but human life is above all life in all aspects

My 11 year old sends money to the ASPCA. Apparently when you do this the word sort of leaks out to other organizations and they start sending you letters asking for donations. PETA is one of the ones who sends her letters. I’ve explained to her that PETA are crazy people who would shoot you in the face to stop you from eating a hamburger and who exploit naked women to try to cheaply grab your attention. So while Im FOR helping the animals I am totally against any organization that trys to tell me what to eat and wear and trys to get my attention by being explotive or insulting.

As for Joanna, this is blasphemy for a Catholic. The difference is that the Sistine Chapel is art, this is cheap hawkishness.
Also, PETA may stand for a good things but they are in it for the money- and, like Randal(I) pointed out, their practices are despicable.

Those who say they think it is great for her to pose nude and just using the cross for covering her breasts and down below is sin and needs to be repented. People need to repent….go back to your first love Christ Jesus who will forgive you. amen. This may also be the reason why our land suffers. It needs to be healed. Lord help us.

I cannot believe the amount of hatred, bigotry and ignorance coming out of most of your mouths (or fingers).

Not all pedophiles are Catholic, and not all Catholics are pedophiles. The Church abhors child abuse, and hating an institution for the actions of a handful of it’s members is disgusting. Those of you who hate on Catholics for pedophilia should be ashamed of yourselves.

I am not a Catholic, but even I find this ad offensive. The Sistine Chapel was a piece of art work intended to be a piece of artwork. This ad is an offensive piece of softcore pornography intended to push an agenda and raise awareness. They knew it would tick people off, that is why they ran it. PETA is all about the shock factor, they want attention because any press is good press.

In my personal opinion, the human being should be the most important cause on the planet. Eradicating poverty, stopping genocide, creating sustainable communities in third world countries. Animals come in a distant second. I’m an animal lover, and in no way am I advocating the mistreatment of animals, but animal rights should not be an issue until we’ve established basic universal human rights. Animals are a waste of our resources right now. But I do agree with the basic premise of the ad, we should be adopting from shelters rather than buying from unsanitary pet stores, or “street-breeders”. Licensed regulated breeders are fine though, if you want to drop that kind of cash. I wonder if these PETA activists have children. Makes you wonder why they would have a biological child when there are so many in foster homes needing to be adopted. (I suppose they think animals are cuter than 14 year old troubled children).
