Despite being in Washington to lobby Congress for funding, Jessica Simpson turned down an invitation to meet the president and congressional leaders at a republican fundraiser. Jessica is lobbying for funding on behalf of Operation Smile, a charity that provides free plastic surgery for indigent overseas children with severe facial deformities. She apparently refused the opportunity because Operation Smile is a non-partisan group.
Now, I don

Could you imagine a conversation between Jessica and President Bush.
Talk about Dumb and Dumber.

Bush and Jessica, together they would save the world!

What a moron. Who in their right mind turns down a $2500-a-plate meal? Free food, I’m there. Nazi rally with free food? I’m game, as long as you don’t gleek in my food as you’re ranting and raving.

George Bush doesnt care about bla, err, facially deformed people.
Scott | March 16, 2006 at 2:42 pm
Why would Jessica Simpson want to become just another celebrity expressing their political views…it can only hurt her career. If she went to this fundraiser (not just a meeting with the President) she would be attracting more people to it and therefore helping the Republican party raise money.
Whether she is a Republican or not she didn’t go to Washington to raise money for a political party, she went to raise awareness of an extremely selfless and helpful organization that saves thousands of children a year from living in the dark.
If you ask me, Jessica has a pretty good publicist who knows when her client is being played. You my friend don’t have a clue about politics or about volunteering your time for a good cause.
that-dog-is-shifty-eyed | March 16, 2006 at 2:43 pm
How is partisan affiliation at all relevant when being invited to speak with Congressional Leaders? What a boner! Does she even understand the concept of lobbying? Who ever supports your cause by way of funds is your ticket bitch, no matter what party they are a member of. Read my deformed lips: Your Fired!
gogoboots | March 16, 2006 at 2:45 pm
Hmmmm, she probably doesn’t even know what partisan means. Hence the confusion, I really wouldn’t want to meet the President either, but really, she could at least make Bush pretend he cared about facially deformed kids with the power of her tits.
Scott | March 16, 2006 at 2:47 pm
It’s called Party Affiliation and not “partisan affiliation” and she needs both democrats and republicans to support opsmile so going to a rep. fundraiser WOULD NOT help.

I’m with Scott on this. I’m pretty sure she didn’t make the decision, and I’m 100% sure that whoever decided had a good reason for refusing this opportunity (although not sure it was in the interest of os?)
zoulou | March 16, 2006 at 2:53 pm

At least she’s getting involved and doing something better with her time than posting hateful, completely out of date, comments on blogs.
Spindoc | March 16, 2006 at 3:01 pm
Bono has met with the president about non-partisan charities. Stupid to pass up an opportunity to get face time for your charity. It just shows that her handlers partisanship is more important to them then the charity that her Agency assigned her for publicity once she became famous.

she’s just as stupid as can be. and was never hot in the first place. anyone ever see her without makeups when she was still doing the newlywed? she looks like a man with a giant mouth..thinking about helping others with deformed mouths? she should get her own mouth fixed before thinking of doing anything else…
Scott | March 16, 2006 at 3:16 pm
This isn’t about meeting with the President, it’s about attending a fundraiser to raise money for the Republican Party. If the President offered to meet with Jessica before or after the Fundraiser I am sure OpSmile and Simpson would be ecstatic about it. But all the NRCC (Nation Republican Campaign Committee) was trying to do was use her as a ploy to get people to attend the fundraiser, not to talk about OpSmile.
WD-40 | March 16, 2006 at 3:20 pm
Bono never was required to attend a Republican Funraiser in order to get “private face time” with Bush.
She was being played. Good thing she has someone around her to see thru it.
Billy Ray Jones | March 16, 2006 at 3:23 pm
This is the smartest thing I have ever seen Jessica do. Good for her! The Republican Party doesn’t care about deformed children, unless they’re 16 and need breast implants.
The only “Smile” they would be operating is the one’s on their faces while watching her corn-fed Texas tits…I’m just sayin’!
Peace.
lysistrata11 | March 16, 2006 at 3:35 pm
Yeah, I can’t see how this meeting would’ve helped her or the organization in any way. The government wouldn’t donate a damn thing to her cause. They’re only concerned with lining their own pockets. It would’ve only wasted time and pushed away donors who aren’t crazy about the president.
happy_bunny | March 16, 2006 at 3:40 pm
She just didn’t know what “bipartisan” means.
jinxie | March 16, 2006 at 3:51 pm
networking people…NETWORKING! fundraisers… hmmmm, aren’t they usually attended by people with lotsa money? I feel confident some of those old white boys would love to donate some money to ms. simpson’s charity – especially if given the chance to stand next to her for a photo op and ogle her cleavage in person… her dumb ass publicist should have worked it to get her equal time with the democrat money bags-then she could cash in on all the middle age men in D.C. that aren’t over their chearleader fantasies. that would have really given those poor ugly kids a chance to be beautiful. jessica is sooo self centered.

The indigent deformed…
The VZA | March 16, 2006 at 3:52 pm
Happy_Bunny, I’m sure she had an idea of what “bipartisan” means, but she probably thinks she’ll go to hell if she becomes one.
I don’t think lobbying for plastic surgery for underprivileged deformed children is so much a political view as an incredibly shallow, misguided attempt at bettering her public image through charity. I can’t believe there’s a charity such as this, much less someone vapid enough to believe it’s doing any good on the par of, say, UNICEF.
Zoulou = Retard
Instead of playing Captain Save-A-Ditz against the big, bad bloggers, why not go out and help her lobby Congress for this worthwhile charity and do something better with YOUR time?
honeycomb's_big_yeahyeahyeah | March 16, 2006 at 3:55 pm
Operation Smile sounds a more tuggy on the heart strings than Operation Pervert Face, where big pervert faces like her dad get their crooked shit-eating perverty grins adjusted. And Operation Ass Chin, where untalented sisters get…murdered. By Satan!
Rusty | March 16, 2006 at 4:00 pm
I agree with jinxie #25 above. I understand Jessica’s publicist (because it sure as hell wasn’t Jessica) not wanting her to only hit up Republican functions, but he/she should have been good enough to get her into a Democratic function as well while she was in Washington. Seriously, folks…all anyone ever talks about is how rich these GOP leaders are and how they’re only out to line their pockets – perhaps she should have used these incredible money-making boobs to get some of that untapped wealth out of them. She’s a complete idiot, and I think she made a stupid move. You don’t have to like the president or a certain party to hit them up for some major cash if it’s a cause you believe in.
Scott | March 16, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Why don’t you check out what this group does “The VZA” before you make idiotic comments like that.
If these kids didn’t have surgery they would live their whole life being ridiculed for how they looked. They would attend little to no school because of being made fun of and would never get the opportunities other people would get. It is hard enough living in an impoverished country, let alone in one where you are the lowest in society because of how you look.
Why don’t you check out their website and see if you still think they are charity who doesn’t “do any good.”
http://www.operationsmile.org, nice talking to you Bill O’Reilly.
Scott | March 16, 2006 at 4:08 pm
To #29, they gave her a days notice to attend this event, believe it or not, there aren’t massive Republican or Democratic fundraisers every night in DC, and if their were, I doubt Jessica would want to spend her time going to them.
She came to this town for a NON-PARTISAN group, so why get involved with politics at all. If Bush really cared about Operation Smile he wouldn’t have put her in this position. Either way, everyone is getting press for this, and I guarantee when you ask the real politicos, they won’t side with the Republican party on this debate.
She met with both Republican and Democratic Representatives on the Hill so lets leave it at that, keep it non-partisan and go home.
The VZA | March 16, 2006 at 4:12 pm
Wow Scott, you really showed me. Calling someone “Bill O’Reilly” must be the new “you fucking Nazi”. In an unrelated story, I’ll keep my own opinion while you drink Miz Simpson’s big-tittie-flavored Kool Aid.
suzy | March 16, 2006 at 4:12 pm
People close to Simpson said she declined a request to appear that same evening at the gala fund-raiser of the National Republican Congressional Committee — even after she was offered some private face time with Bush — because Operation Smile is a non-partisan group.
“It just feels wrong,” one Simpson insider told Reuters on Wednesday, adding that the actress keeps her political views private. “She would love to meet the president and talk about Operation Smile … but she can’t do it at a fund-raiser for the Republican Party.”

Why would Jessica Simpson want to be blacklisted by the Hollywood Left after visiting with Bush? She isn’t that dumb! Have to make Dukes of Hazzard 2 to pay off her sleezy ex

Bush’s ‘political capital’ can’t even buy Jessica Simpson now! what a hoot!
discreet_chaos | March 16, 2006 at 4:42 pm
Scott’s right. It was a fundraiser and she was being played as a drawing card. Bono has had one-to-one time and has spoken at non-partisan events, but he hasn’t allowed himself to be played by either side. Clearly, Ms Simpson’s reps are smarter than the spokeman for the GOP will give them or the American people credit.
gogoboots | March 16, 2006 at 4:52 pm
I missed that it was a fundraiser for the republican party. Makes sense now…

Texas is just a state. People live in it. The Bush Family is originally from Connecticut. Their evil puppetry has nothing to do with Texas outside of some underground resources.

Well, she didn’t want to meet with Bush, although its a good opportunity for her Operation Smile, maybe she just really hates Bush.
Although, you’re right, she did miss a great opportunity, to say she met the president.
Jerk616 | March 16, 2006 at 5:37 pm
How about fixing the ugly people at home before you go around fixing the uglies abroad? It’s called ‘priorities’, and people need to get some. Anyways, Bush loves Bi-parties. Jess don’t.
shoyu | March 16, 2006 at 5:49 pm
Jessica was afraid by meeting with Bubba Bush people would realize she is the smarter of the two. That would ruin her bimbo image, costing her millions of dollars.
I saw her news conference. She tried to dumb it down, but she still came off as a better speaker than Bubba Bush.

My time is not precious and I like spending it reading stupid comments. I’m actually way happier spending it on this website than helping people. Proof: I’m answering your comment when the world would be better off just ignoring you.
I am not criticizing how people spend their time, Thebo is. As far as I am concerned people can do what the hell they want. However, if you are going to criticize how Jess. is helping others, then you’d better come up with a better alternative. Thebo didn’t, and that’s what I’m deploring.
