Jennifer Hudson suspect should have been in jail the day of murders

October 29th, 2008 // 82 Comments

Wiliam Balfour, the prime suspect in the murders of actress/singer Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew, should have been in jail the day of the killings. He was stopped by police with crack in his car back in June which was a violation of his parole from a 1999 conviction for attempted murder and vehicular hijacking. He was instead allowed to go free, according to the AP:

On June 19, police pulled over Balfour’s car after hearing gunshots in the area, according to the officers’ report. They found a rock of cocaine in plain view on the driver’s seat, the report stated. It had a street value of about $100.
A parole supervisor declined to issue a warrant to revoke Balfour’s parole after the arrest, records show.
However, a felony arrest usually is sufficient reason for corrections officials to revoke parole, said Thomas Peters, a Chicago criminal defense attorney who represents parolees.

Even better, when a warrant was issued on Saturday for William’s arrest they already had grounds for revoking his parole without even counting his suspected involvement in the murders:

The Illinois Department of Corrections issued a warrant for Balfour on Saturday for violating terms of his parole by possessing a weapon and failing to attend anger management counseling and a substance abuse program, according to his parole report.

While this is all Monday morning quarterbacking about a piss-poor parole system that goes on in every city, it’s still the kind of scary shit that makes you think “Maybe I don’t need groceries today” then hide under your bed eating old Saltines. On that note, NOM NOM NOM. Hey, I found the The Geekologie Writer’s mom. How long have you been under here? Cracker?

  2. Lord Have Mercy

The system works, when liberals allow it to.

  3. toodledoo

    first?

  4. J Hudson can blame liberals for letting this thug go free. They will argue that Wiliam Balfour is a victim also. It happens every day and if anyone tries to stand up to it, they are shouted down as racist. Prove me wrong.

  5. Deacon Jones

We have the same problem in Philly. Besides the fact that people in west philadelphia are animals (and I mean that in every sense of the word) that will kill you for your sneakers, the whole court/parole system is run by a bunch of black people that dimiss charges or make them serve a 10th of the time.

The cops in this city are so sick of their shit they’ve actually demonstrated. They get killed bringing these apes in only to have them get let out 2 years later for attempted murder.

It’s time we got fuckers like the sergeant in Shawshank Redemption to run shit downtown, I guaran-fucking-tee you this wouldnt have happened.

  6. If the Chicago PD busted everyone they pulled over with crack, the street would be empty..

  7. Right of Center

While I consider myself a moderate, maybe leaning a little right of center. I have to agree that the liberal courts and Chicago, Illinois for that matter have the most left leaning liberal government in the country. This is a direct cause of too little supervision, group hug give him a chance mentality. And the overworked penal system.

Vote democratic and reap what you sow!

  8. mamadough

i say the people of chicago form an angry mob and burn down a few precincts and city hall. sometimes it’s the only way you can reason with those kinds of people. and by “those kinds of people” i mean useless cops and persecutors, not black people.

  9. Rutty

this just pisses me off, cuz while it’s pretty fucking obvious this guy is a total waste of life, Hudsons sister was dating him! When you have a kid, you protect that kid, and bringing dickless shitbags like this guy around and then crying when he offs your family is just stupidity on your part.

Hudson should have smacked her sister across the head.

  10. mimi

Stick to what you know FISH-ASS!

You are not a reporter… you are a JERK!

  11. Bob

Why does this merit a 5th post? People don’t come here to read insightful commentaries on the judicial system. They come to feel better about themselves, look at lust inducing pictures, or laugh at stupid crap. STOP trying to cover what the NY Times covers.

  12. This is just another example of the break down of the family and life in the ghetto. My heart goes out to Jennifer and her family.

#4… The link from your screenname is one of the most worthless sites I’ve ever seen. ‘Maverick Credentials’? Ha… You and your cronies had better get used to Barry. He’s certainly not going anywhere…. likely for 8 years.

  14. CookieVanderbilt

@11. WORD, Bob. In that case…I’ll omit my diatribe about how the parole system is no replacement for a rehabiliative model of justice.

    Let’s keep it superficial, follks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Flubber

That looks like one hell of a jiggly flabby arm. You’d think it’d be more toned from carrying that Oscar around everywhere.

One other thing. This is a tragedy, especially with the 7 year old boy. But crap like this happens all the time, but this is “big news” because of a minority celebrity’s involvement? Please.

  16. Why.

They didnt charge him because they did a background check and saw that he was related to that star so they let him go.

It allways happens to movie star / music stars and there family members.

  17. Crusty

#6, we don’t empty the streets of everyone in possession of crack. That’s hardly the point here. The streets SHOULD be emptied of people convicted of attempted murder who, while on parole, gets pulled over after police hear gunfire in that area and is found to be in possession of crack cocaine. There’s not a clearer example of a parole violation than this – and the parole officer HAS to be accountable for his unwillingness to do his job and get this jerk off the street.

Almost every time someone dies under violent circumstances, evidence shows that somewhere along the way, someone seriously screwed up, often at the legal / administrative level. Here’s another sad case.

  18. Freddo

    Dang she be fat.

Get with the picture, Superfish, you twat.

  19. Max Planck

    My tax dollars at works.

  20. Shar

The streets need to be emptied of judges, lawyers and parole officers that do not do their job. This is such a tragedy and it could be anyone.

From some of the comments here, some of you need to be taken off the streets as well.

  21. Freddo

    Dang she be fat.

Get with the picture, Superfish, you twat.

  22. Captain-Insano

#10: Yup, as I suspected you are retarded and are entirely mistaken about what this site is all about. Speaking of anger management classes, I’ve signed you up for some.

  23. sssss

He was helping ROCK the VOTE for OBAMA!!!!

  24. And until we start paying law enforcement officers more than we pay a bank teller, it is going to be like this. Think about it.

  25. mamadough

i think every state should have a 3-strike law. and then use these useless convicts to take the place of the mexican illegals who come over to do the jobs that are beneath the white man. but for the ones whose 3 strikes are sexual offenses, especially against children, they’ll just be shot on site.

that’s part of the problem, there is no fear in our punishment system. if balfour had had his hand cut off for the first murder conviction, you think he would’ve committed the second, let alone be able to hold the gun? we need a little more medieval behavior when punishing our criminals.

  26. Crusty

Alex, (#24), the starting salary for Chicago police is $43K and jumps to $55K after one year. Exactly how much should we be paying cops? Once you’re at 10 years, things should be pretty comfortable, especially after The Chosen One gets his hands on the purse strings and taxes my income by another 20% and gives it to cops (which I don’t mind) and parole officers (which I sure as hell do mind).

    Isn’t it odd:

“It is just four miles from Mrs Donerson’s house to the $1.6 million neo-Georgian home of Barack Obama. The Democratic presidential candidate also lives on the South Side but in the leafy environs of Hyde Park, an island of coffee shops, restaurants and book stores next to the University of Chicago where he once taught.

Head a few streets south of Hyde Park, however, and it soon looks like another world of run-down low-rise homes and pawn shops protected by steel bars, discount stores and fast food outlets. The South Side stretches a further 14 miles, through districts that are 93 per cent black on average, to Altgeld Gardens, the bleak housing estate where Mr Obama cut his teeth as a community activist in the 1980s. ”

Clearly the activities of ‘The One’ made a difference..

Keep voting democratic guys, you can see that it’s helped. Once you head cracks open, and your brains fall out, perhaps then you will wake up to your ignorance.

  29. Republicans scare me

Wow. Republicans, you are scaring me!

I ask you, since the War on Drugs began by a Republican president 30 years ago, how would you say that war is going??? Republicans have been in office longer than Democrats in the last 30 years, and you want to blame the Dems for the failed system??
As usual, you have your heads up your ass and your hand on your wallet….more of the same.

Deacon, your solution to the problem is to have some old-fashioned skull-cracking. That’s a very enlightened sentiment, but somehow seems a little ill-advised. Violence begets violence, remember?

  30. Fernando Narcos

Leave it up the pile of shit wingnut racists to blame other people for the actions of this guy. They’re always going on and on about personal responsibility until its something they think they can score some points off of,and it’s always the “liberals” faul..

    Fucking idiots.

  31. Agent 004

    Damn reposts…

Fish, find us some bikini pics to make us all feel better please.

  32. Todd Scott

    Yes, liberals’ fault.

It’s the liberals that constantly cut funding to state police programs, state parole programs, state public defender programs.

It’s liberals that cut funding to education, early education, boys and girls programs, after school programs.

It’s liberals that cut funding to inner-city redevelopment, and liberals that give imminent domain power to the courts so they can kick out the poor instead of helping them build their community.

Darn those liberals! If only they weren’t dropping trillions on a bogus war and hundreds of millions on their rich Wall Street buddies, we might have the resources to better police urban crime. Gosh, I HATE those liberals!!

PS Eat dick you fascist right-wing hatemongers.

  33. Liberals Liberals Liberals…that’s all you people whine about. Get off yourselves.

  34. Agent 004

The first drug that needs to be made legal is pot. Why this is illegal and alcohol isn’t is beyond me.

But the facts remain that study after study shows that democratic leaning cities have higher violent and property crime rates.

Don’t take my word for it. Look up the studies.. they are all out there, you just have to find time to read them. And since fish is posing crap this week, it should be easy.

  35. mamadough

@34, that’s because republicans don’t allow coloreds in their cities.

  36. Agent 004

    RE: Wall Street ‘buddies’:

    here is some more data;

Lehman Brothers has given $9.2 million through employees and its PAC since 1989, with 54 percent of that going to Democrats. Clinton and Barack Obama top the list of all-time recipients for the company, collecting $410,000 and $395,600 respectively. Schumer hauled in $181,450, while Dodd has collected $165,800. The top recipient of PAC money from Lehman Brothers has been Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over banking and the securities industry. Castle has collected $38,500 from Lehman’s PAC since 1993.

This election cycle, Lehman employees have given about $1.3 million to presidential candidates. Only fellow financial giants Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley have given more to the presidential hopefuls this election cycle. Lehman employees have made their firm one of the top contributors to both Obama ($370,500) and John McCain ($117,500) this election cycle. (For a full list of recipients of Lehman contributions, see this post from Friday.)

So, it’s all part of the right wing conspiracy eh? Liberals are innocent angels right?

Also, I suggest you read the definition of fascist before you continue to name call. The current popular use of the word brings to mind a quote from ‘The Princess Bride’ — “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. ”

I can keep this up until fish posts something good.

  37. Julian

    @34

I’m all for your argument but the reason why “democratic leaning cities” tend to have a higher violent and property crime rates is because they also tend to have a higher population.

in any case can we cut this shit out with all the real news articles and post some bewb pictures already?

  38. Deacon Jones

    @29
Yes, that is the solution to the problem. Want proof? Look at our inner cities.

And they just continue to spread outwards to the suburbs. The high school I went to is gangsta infested disgrace now. Theyre like cockroaches.

Maybe we should start sterilizing people that have a felony. That would be great. Fuck em

  39. Fred McDermot

Keep it up, Agent 004! Your googling abilities are amazing! 54% whoooooaaa!!

  40. Leroy

damn, and i thought the nephew was fat.

  41. Jrz

Balfour should have been in jail……..
    Naw! Ya think?

  42. Deacon Jones

One more thing, go to TMZ right now, theyve got video up of Balfour’s mom being interviewed defending her son. It’s laughable.

  43. Agent 004

Fred, you fail to see the point. I have full disclosure here. 54% is a majority, but it wasn’t the point. if you didn’t choose to be a useful idiot, then you would see that a lot of data is there. It’s the fact that the blame lies with both sides, with evidence ‘slightly’ leaning to more responsibility to the left of the isle.

Also, Julian, the results for crime rates are adjusted for population for any credible study. Not just raw numbers, but X per Y population.

  44. James

“goes on in every city” – I don’t think so. Smart states have abolished parole and make sure violent felons convicted of attempted murder and abduction (like this pos) serve their time in prison. Let’s be honest, this kind of garbage where someone is let out on parole for a violent crime, then violates parole and is not even remanded to prison consistently happens in left leaning / liberal states. There are real, everyday consequences to what some politicians and judges do on a daily basis.

  45. pete

Yes, many cities with large minority populations have liberal Democratic control of local governments.

Conservative Republicans have every right to criticize them – once you convince minorities to join your party. The Republican National Convention attendees were 93% white this year.

It’s like criticizing the governments of other countries. What you say may be valid, but in the end, you have no say.

  46. veggi

That arm will give me nightmares. It’s like a really bad piece of original recipe KFC.

  47. effyeray

ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS SHITE OF A STORY! Who fucking cares… at all?

  48. fact

The jails and prisons are over maximum capacity already. Taxpayers won’t pay for more prisons – sorry, it’s not Never-Never Land, you have to pay for building and staffing prisons by raising taxes.

Why are the prisons full? Mandatory drug sentencing.

Both situations – no new prisions (NO NEW TAXES! EVAR!) and mandatory sentencing, especially for crack possession – are direct results of Republican policies on taxes and criminal punishments. The Democratic policies are to raise taxes to pay for infrastructure and services (including all aspects of law enforcement), and to give drug users treatment and community service instead of prison time. If people could have refrained from classic “Christian” judgmentalism about drug users and refrained from being spoiled brats about paying taxes, there’d be plenty of capacity to lock up violent offenders.

  49. Paul

    Hey Number 32…

In this case, YES, it’s the liberals. You know why? Because there aren’t any other political views in Chicago politics. It’s all Democrat run and has been for decades. Hence, there’s no one else to blame. Hell, you can’t even say it’s the governor or the state legislature because they’re all Dems too. Governor Blagojevich is under FBI investigation right now by the way. How the hell do you expect a guy like that to run a state efficiently or morally? Illinois is a bizzaro world unto its own. You people who don’t live here don’t even know the half of it. 20%. That’s our Chicago PD’s success rate in solving murders. 20 frikking percent!

  50. Cash

Maybe if Obama was busy doing his current job instead of running for a different one, Illinois wouldn’t be such a god damned joke.
