The pregnant “Zoey 101″ star irked waitresses at La Carreta, a Mexican restaurant 40 miles outside her hometown of Kentwood, La., when she failed to leave a tip after she and a friend ate there recently. “Jamie is not well-liked here,” says waitress Brittanie Heaney, who makes just $2.37 an hour.

And if I don’t return, along with other who don’t like bad service, then the place goes under and everyone is out of a job. As for your point that tipping is expected…screw you. As for me, since none of you know me, I do tip. As a matter of fact, I tip very well when I get good service. There are several eating establishments that I frequent on a regular basis. The wait staff always want me to sit in their area because I know what I want, can communicate it clearly, am not high maintenance, am friendly and polite…and tip well.
I’m with the rest. A tip is for a waitress who performs an average or better job. I’ve never not tipped, but I have been known to leave a few pennies once. All it takes for me to tip well is a good attitude, and if you screw up my order, fixing it without trying to make me feel like a horrible person for requesting the right thing.
Tipping is NOT mandatory. Yes, it is figured into a waitress’s wage – but it is figured in on the expectation that she will do a good job and make the customer’s evening enjoyable. If she doesn’t do that, she doesn’t deserve to be paid as much. Simple as that. You are not entitled to extra money from me just by slamming the wrong order on my table and shooting me a nasty look when I request you fix it. You’ve gotta get it right or be willing to fix it, and do it all with a good attitude.

Typical ignorant Spears girl!! Britney has a bad reputation of tipping really terribly, so it appears that J.L. has the same trashy habit. Either she learned this from Britney, or neither girl has been properly taught by their parents how to tip correctly.
She certainly can afford to tip properly, and somehow I doubt if she got bad service here. It sounds more like the typical selfish Spears attitude of thinking only about themselves.
She could have totally avoided this whole scene if she would have just went to one of those Mexican walk-up joints that operate out of a broken down school bus painted to look like a large Mexican flag with a mural of the Virgin Mary on the top. But nooooo, she’s above all of that!
It is true: tipping isn’t mandatory, but if the waitress didn’t spit in your food or wasn’t a total bumbling imbusile/asshole, then yeah, you leave her money for doing her job. I mean, the last time I checked, my paychecks at my previous places of employment were for, uh, doing my job.
I suppose it is a part of “paying dues” to have shitty jobs in college and high school, but apparently, there are some assholes out there who are not aware of the fact that educated people are working behind the scenes in these less desirable jobs, and waiting tables is not the only thing on the list. What I can’t stand is when someone, regardless of the many crappy jobs I’ve held while going through my various phases of education, comes up to me while I’m doing the things I am required to do and tries to talk to me like they know better than me because they need to feel better about their poor, tortured selves. It seems to me a lot of people these days have a stick up their asses about entitlement: what the world owes them and not what they owe the world, and when something doesn’t go their way (God forbid), they take it out on the nearest entity “responsible” for whatever happened. Kind of like bitching out the operator on the phone because your cable is out. It’s not the operator’s fault. (Of course, if they are mind-numblingly stupid, feel free to let the curses fly). I’ve had so many people be mean to me just because they can: because if I say one word to defend myself, my job is in jeopardy. It’s mostly people of the Jamie Lynn Spears sort who pull that shit, too. Maybe the waitress deserved the tip, maybe she didn’t. All I know is that the service has to be atrocious for me to not leave a tip, and I have never been that appalled. And truth be told, the only times I get stiffed are by people from other countries, because our system and their system are quite different. I usually get great tips, because I’m a friendly, chipper person who always fixes her mistakes with a smile and an apology.

I’ve seen coworkers hand change *back* to customers if they felt it wasn’t enough, and say “Here, obviously you need this more than I do.”
I’ve seen coworkers flick coins left on the bartop simply because it was a pile of “worthless” dimes and nickels, instead of dollars.
In restaurants it’s the kitchen staff doing all the work for either very little or zero percentage of the nightly tip out.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that waitress was a bitch to her. I’m not trying to defend Jamie Lynn, but I think the possibility that she had a of a cunt of a waitress is not out of the realm of possibility.
Some people are so ignorant when it comes to tipping. People think that servers make so much money and it’s just not true. Yes, we usually average more than minimum wage but it’s not like we’re taking home hundreds of dollars every night. $2 is not a universal tip. So many people seem to think that $2-3 is what you’re supposed to leave a waitress no matter how big their bill is. That drives me insane. It’s 20%. Waitresses aren’t working long hard hours dealing with difficult customers for the $2 + some change that their employer is paying them. Tips are what we work for.
