For those of you following Jade Goody’s story which has captivated pretty much all of Britain, the 27-year-old reality star died in her sleep this morning, Mother’s Day in the U.K. after battling cancer. She left behind two young sons. People reports:
Max Clifford, her publicist and friend, confirmed the news to PEOPLE. “She had been pretty much asleep for the last 24 hours,” he says, adding she died “just before 4 o’clock this morning.”
He adds, “Her legacy will be that a lot of women owe their lives to Jade Goody because of her public announcement and battle against cervical cancer,” which has led to increased knowledge of it and the screening necessary to catch it.
“She has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world, from Australia to America and everywhere else.”
The silver lining to this tragic story is the world-wide attention Jade has brought to cervical cancer screenings. So, ladies, make sure you’re up on whatever that entails. I know I’d miss you, and not just in a sexual way. No foolin’.

The only reason that this is sad is that two little boys have to grow up without tehir mother. Otherwise I’m disgusted at they way she has delt with this. Yes, she wanted to make money for her kids but she made a mokery of a very serious issue that effects hell of a lot of people. As far as this woman goes, god takes who he wants when he wants, but she wasn’t a saint. Who if any of us is perfect? She milked as much fame and glory she could out of her cancer issue. All I can say is the only good thing that came out of it all was some money for her children and increased awareness of cervical cancer.
Though I don’t see why we make such a TO-DO out of celebrity deaths. There are thousands who die each day that don’t even gain as much as a whisper of recognition. Oh well, life is not perfect at all and I think society has lost sight of reality and what really matters.

To be fair, Jade was a massive knob, but a naive one. She was racist and everyone in Britain hated her (I was one of them), but to see someone die so young from cancer is pretty harsh. No, sorry, really awful. At first I was apalled that she was selling her story to the whole of the world, but then again, she has made women all over the U.K. get tested and has also left so much money to her young boys. It’s really sad that people have to put mean comments, but I guess it’s their opinion…someone has died who was a young mother, that’s how it should be looked at. I just hope her family can find peace.

Okay okay, so some people’s comments are a little harsh on here, fair enough. But at the same time, Jade’s pretty much made herself into a poster child for this country’s generation of ignorance, hate and apparently more shit if you got to know her. She could have went out with dignity, but she didn’t bother, she ran to OK! magazine for more and more publicity.
If you think about it properly, what if it was, say, Kylie Minogue who’d died when she had cancer? People would have been up in arms about it- the way she’s acted towards others is the reason for people saying what they have, not those people being harsh.
Jade’s death is just another example of how fickle and shallow this country is, and how desperate we all are to squeeze more money from something so horrifying- on both Jade’s and the magazines’ parts.
Just thank God those kids were too young to realise what pain she must have been in before she died, man.
She was highly publicized when she made racist comments about another “celebrity” on Big Brother in the UK, which essentially led to her becoming “famous”. As for her raising awareness about cervical cancer…she sold the rights to her story to the highest bidder and used the fact she had cancer to gain even more publicity, subjecting her battle with cancer into a freak show that was reality tv-esque.
Is this the type of woman we should be proud to say she made a difference? I’d actually argue she’s the exact opposite.

She was a terrible mother and human being. Just because she got a disease, doesn’t make her inherantly brave or good all of a sudden. I don’t know her or her story but I hope she rests in peace. I have been sexually careful and got yearly pap smears. Despite this, I ended up with second stage cell changes (cervical cancer cells go through three stages before becoming cancerous). This meant that I could have ended up with full blown cervical cancer if I had not caught it when I did. I asked the doctor and he said it could have become cervical cancer in as short as 8 months from the day we found the changes. I’ve had to have two surgeries since then. So I hope Jade’s death truly does raise awareness for the need to get yearly screenings. Cancer is a hell of a disease and no one deserves to have to go through it. R.I.P. Jade. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
