NOT an “assault rifle”.
NOT an AK-47.
NOT a M-16 (but close).
If it is real it is an AR-15 SEMI-automatic rifle, the SEMI-automatic version of the M-16. Machine guns and “assault rifles” are capable of fully automatic fire (hold down the trigger and the gun fires until it is empty). An AR-15 fires only in SEMI-automatic mode (trigger must be pulled for each shot), so it is neither a “machine gun” nor an “assault rifle”. If you remember that you will be more informed than 98% of journalists/reporters and politicians.
If it is a real AR-15, they are breaking the first rule of safe gun handling: always point the muzzle in a safe direction, and only at things you are willing to shoot. The first picture looks stupid and stupid isn’t sexy (Megan Fox excepted of course).
