It's been rumored since about March of last year and now it's official - PT Anderson's next film will be THERE WILL BE BLOOD based on the Upton Sinclair novel "Oil!" and starring Daniel Day Lewis. The script has been done for some time and Anderson and Lewis were trying to get the film off the ground but were unable to get the budget necessary for a film of this scope. Enter Uber-producer Scott Rudin who stepped in and set the film up at Paramount Classics and Miramax with a $20 million budget. Variety does a good job of summarizing the plot of the film saying, "Day-Lewis will play a prospector who buys the oil rights to a family's ranch, and then hits a major pocket of crude. The story then turns into a tale of greed and faith, as the prospector realizes the American dream and is destroyed by it." The actor was so devoted to the film he spent most of 2005 researching the character and the oil business while turning down every other acting offer to leave his schedule open. That dedication paid off as filming will finally begin this spring.
