OK - so I know a lot of people dont care about baseball - but this weekend is one of the purest sports scenarios one can think of. The Yankees lead the Red Sox by one game, and play three games in Boston this weekend. No worrying about what other teams do, no worrying about 'backing' into the playoffs. You win the games, you win the division.

As a sidebar - The Red Sox' David Ortiz and the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez are the front runners for thr the season MVP. It does not get more exciting.

Who you got? What sort of rivalries do you follow in your own countries? When do you find sports the most fun?

My areas local sports attraction is better than your areas local sports attraction.

I'll be up at 1:45 AM tonight to watch game one. Unfortunately, the Sox must sweep all three to win the division, and sweeping the Spankees is next to impossible. Especially given the current state of our pitching staff.

If we can take 2 out of 3, we can force a playoff, even if it is in NY. Last year showed that anything is possible.

Big Papi should be MVP hands down. Nobody has had more big hits than him. The things he's done this year - especially down the stretch - are the very definition of MVP. Don't give me that "he's just a DH" bullshit.

My team already clinched yesterday, and there was much rejoicing. Especially because I have playoff tickets  You Red Sox fans should cheer for the White Sox against Cleveland. If I don't feel your heartfelt support, I will command Ozzie to make them lose.

Uh yeah, because the white sox are really going to use up there arms in the bullpen trying to win those close ones. Probably not. In fact I'm betting a one game playoff for the division, and the loser goes home.

One game playoff....

Bucky Dent has a baseball camp in the town next to mine. I may go punch him in the fucking face for good luck.

Ortiz is just a DH and does not deserve the MVP and it's not bullshit. A DH is a glorified pinch hitter. I mean they don't even play in the freaking games. He will win the Silver Slugger award for best hitter but not the MVP.

The DH isn't a player is another BS argument. How about relief pitchers or closers? Closers appear in less than half the games. And what about Papi in the World Series last year doubling that pitcher off third base, looking like a straight up gold glover?

Look what he did last night? Ties the game with a HR then drives in the winning run! I'd rather have that on my team then some guy who only puts the bat on the ball in a blowout when they are up 5 runs. Oh yeah, he's always good to make a bush league play. Like scrubbing out then trying to knock the ball out of Bronson's glove, and then arguing about the call for five minutes. So bush league. If he was only my teeam I couldn't cheer for them. But some people only care about winning and not how you win.

From what I'm hearing, they are going to really go easy on this series. Keeping the pitch counts low, throwing in their lesser bullpen players, etc. To be honest I'm torn...part of me thinks they should treat it as a playoff series, to keep momentum going, but I guess maybe playing conservative will allow them the necessary rest.

That's not a maybe, that's a definitly. Since Sports began, and especially since the Wild Card, teams who are in are going to rest there arms and stars, get healthy, and get ready for the playoff run. Even more so in the NFL, when they have the spot locked up.

Oh, I'm sure they will. I guess I didn't express myself appropriately, trying to work and converse at the same time. They ARE going to do what you just stated, but I personally wonder if that is the wisest move. How many times since baseball has brought in the wild card has a team that clinched early relaxed and then found themselves out in the first round, losing to a team that had to battle its way through to get to the playoffs, a team that will very likely get into the WS because of momentum. Scariest team to me right now IS Cleveland, although they may have worn themselves out just to get this far.

i have just wished the plaugue on you, if anyone can tell me a more clutch hitter in the last 5-6 years i would be very surprised....unlike Gay-Rod who is hitting .843 with 30 home runs and 110 RBI's in the 7-9th innings of games the yankees are already leading by 5 or more runs, alright i made that up but if you consistently watch the yankees, its to the point of comical how much he pads his stats when the game dosent matter, if you want to start talking about overrated players you should start with Gay-Rod.....

The whole DH is not a player argument is so old. Get over it. There are specialists all over the league, from pinch-runners to closers to set-up men. The game has evolved. The fans must evolve with it or forever be bitter about the "good ole days".

Don't even get me started on AL vs NL managing. That whole argument that NL managing is much more difficult because of the lack of DH is the biggest farce since Republicans convinced the masses that they were the voice of the working class. In the NL, the manager has a much more cut and dry approach of when to pull a pitcher. IE, the pitcher is coming up to bat, offense is needed. You pull him. Most managers can do a double-switch in their sleep. The real challenge comes when a manager has ONLY the abilities, pitch counts, stamina of that pitcher to rely on for making those decisions. Do you pull your starting pitcher in the 7th, 8th? He's looking a bit shakey but we have three lefties coming to bat, and no strong lefties in the bull pen. What I'm trying to say is, the standards are less clear cut in the AL, and managers take more heat for those decisions BECAUSE they don't have the "he was coming up to bat" aspect to draw upon.

The Louisville Silver Slugger Award

Nothing against Ortiz I just think the whole DH is a gimmick and I would never give the MVP to any full time DH.

Hey asshat, did you know that out of 47 knocks, 20 of Ortiz's either tied the game or put the BoSox ahead? I'm like to see how many of A-Rod's did that. I'd me suprised if it was more than 5. And of those 5 I'm sure all game in the first 4 innings. Dude is fucking bush league. Here's hoping Variteck kics his AZZ again.

WAR BoSox sweeping
WAR Indians getting the Wild Card
WAR Steinbrenner killing himself

Personally as having played baseball nearly all my life up to Single A ball, I think the the DH really has no business winning an MVP award. Being that he essentially plays half the game. If Ortiz were to be playing in the field there would be none of this MVP talk because he is one of the WORST 1st basemen I have ever seen. If he hit half as well as he does then he'd still be in AAA ball. Don't get me wrong I think Ortiz is one of the most dangerous hitters out there but if he had to go out on the field after his big ass, not fat he's just a big guy, gets done legging out a double or after a couple hit an runs that get fouled off.

I'm all for the DH and specialists. Makes the game harder and levels out the playing field because players are getting bigger stronger faster (No steriod pun intended) and with the players getting alot better than what they used to be.

PS I hate the Yankees and pretty impartial to the Red Sox. Too bad however wins the ALDS will eventually lose to the Cards.....
