Dance with my father by Luther Vandross

I dunno, if I am in an emo mood (you can shoot me, I wish you would...) the Postal Service...but besides that, I don't really cry for songs. At least not yet, I don't think I listen to the right kind of music. Oh, I remember when Toy Story 2 came out, when the cowgirl jessie...like, it shows her being forgotten and the song says like 'when somebody loved me' which is sad...

God damn, I ramble...

Oh, also Third Day's "When the Rain Comes"

When the rain comes
it seems like everyone has gone away
when the night falls
you wonder if you shouldn't find some place
to run and hide, escape the pain,
but hiding's such a lonely thing to do

I can't stop the rain
from falling down on you again
I can't stop the rain
but I will hold you 'til it goes away

When the rain comes
you blame it on the things that you have done
When the storm fades
you know that rain must fall on everyone
Rest awhile, it'll be alright
No one loves you like I do

I can't stop the rain
from falling down on you again
I can't stop the rain
but I will hold you 'til it goes away

Another one is "Fire & Rain" by James Taylor. It doesn't seem quite as sad until you find out that he actually wrote the song for his girlfriend after finding out she had died in a plane crash. Then the lyrics take on a whole new meaning. One which brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it.

"Just yesterday morning...they let me know you were gone..."

John Michael Montgomery - Home to You

Hanging out in our old sweatshirts
You let me complain about a hard day's work
I don't know what I did to deserve
To get to come home to you

You are my best friend
And you are where my heart is
And I know at the day's end
I get to come home to you

It's MY song. I had heard it back in '99 when it came out, but it didn't have nearly the impact then as it did a year and a half ago. I heard it on the radio when I was coming home from work and just burst into tears

Love will do that to ya I suppose.

"Just yesterday morning...they let me know you were gone..."

sniff.

I heard he wrote this about a chick he was in rehab with, who was going to start a band with him when they both got out, but she ended up offing herself or o.d.ing or somesuch. My version has a lot of gratuitous detail so it is probably wrong. Anybody know different?
