I hate going to the movies now, except for the swank theater in Boca. You pay like $20 a person, but you get this sweet seat in the balcony an waiters and whatnot.

I don't go to the proletariat theater anymore.

Definitely-

Corpse Bride (Tim Burton is a genius...yeah that's a strong statement)
The Constant Gardner - Incredibly reviewed, and Ralph Fiennes is so hot.
Mallick's "New World" - He's one of the best filmmakers of the modern era, plus Christian Bale is John Rolfe.
An Unfinished Life - Despite Jennifer Lopez being in it, I hear it's supposed to be great
Lord of War - Director of The Truman Show and Gattaca...looks interesting
Proof - Excellent play
Everything is Illuminated - Liev Schrieber's directorial debut
Harry Potter - yeah I know
Mirror Mask - Based on Neil Gaiman's writings
Where The Truth Lies - Atom Egoyan, another one of my favorite directors.
The Weather Man - I hear it's going to be American Beauty-esque black comedy.

I'll stop for now. I can't wait till some good movies start coming out!

Sorry, I should clarify...it's not based on The Sandman or anything, it's actually a story conceived and written by Neil Gaiman. This movie looks more unique than any I've seen in many many years. Think Labyrinth meets Alice in Wonderland.

The first one was, in my opinion, such a disappointment. I'll still see this one, but man did I expect that first one to blow me away. Which it didn't.

I laugh every time I see the homoerotic doused in oil fighting and wrastlin with 20 guys scene.

I'd like to go see Serenity. I enjoyed the series. :)

And then there's Tom-Yun-Gong, another movie by the Ong Bak guy. Looks rad.

Transporter 2... The new Guy Ritchie movie whateverit'scalled, and Narnia.

I've seen Serenity. Back in June, we were lucky enough to get a sneak preview here in Houston. Summer Glau (River Tam) showed up; she's so cute. I really enjoyed the movie. And will say no more about it, other than, I am looking forward to the release.

Also The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe looks good to me. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid.

Now that I have heard of Mirrow Mask (thanks Smegma) that too is on the list. I don't know the source material it is from though. I would have thought from the collection Smoke and Mirrors, but that doent match up with any of the stories I recall form there. What I read on IMDB, it kinda sounds as if its based in the world from Stardust.

MrHouse
09-01-2005, 07:18 AM
Well Smegma said Alice in Wonderland meets Labyrinth. To me that sounds very, very much like Neverwhere.

What would be really cool would be a Good Omens movie.

edit: the style looks like Neverwhere, although the story doesn't seem to be connected at all.

cefnbar

My guess was based off of IMDBs plot summery. I havent seen the preview yet. BBC did a Neverwhere miniseries; it didn't follow the novel, just takes place in Londons undercity. At least that's what I've heard about it; and have yet to see it.

Here is what IMBD had to say about mirrow mask, if anyone is interested.

MirrorMask centers on Helena, a 15 year old girl in a family of circus entertainers, who often wishes she could run off and join real life. After a fight with her parents about her future plans, her mother falls quite ill and Helena is convinced that it is all her fault. On the eve of her mother's major surgery, she dreams that she is in a strange world with two opposing queens, bizarre creatures, and masked inhabitants. All is not well in this new world - the white queen has fallen ill and can only be restored by the MirrorMask, and it's up to Helena to find it. But as her adventures continue, she begins to wonder whether she's in a dream, or something far more sinister.

Serenity = Fallin in love with Firefly all over again cause they are playing it on SciFi every friday.

Narnia = Cause I like reliving my childhood

Jarhead = Great GREAT book, looks like it could be a better movie

Rent = Cause well it's Rent

Roll Bounce = it just looks fun

Thats all I can think of right now.

Mirror Mask's trailer just made my head hurt. Gonna skip that one. Flightplan is another one I'm gonna skip, I'm not a big fan of Jodie Foster. And Saw 2, cause that first one sucked.

Gah, RENT! Yes, that's a must see too.

I'll also see Narnia even though <gasp> I've actually never read the books for some reason.

Jarhead and Elizabethtown are both on my radar as well. Ice Harvest, Aeon Flux, Memoirs of a Geisha, Walk the Line, Zathura, The Producers, The Promise, Transamerica, Derailed and Jesus is Magic are also on my to do list.

I see a lot of movies, haha!

I thought it was great

Too much smarmyness towards the end for me. Very few laughs the last 30 minutes or so, and the worst crime of all was the complete misuse of Christopher Walken in a movie.

Part of the problem is I had such high expectations, and it fell short of them. I still think Old School and Dodgeball were both funnier.

The movies that i'm definitely looking forward 2 r:

Four Brothers

Pride and Prejudice - but hopefully Keira Knightly will actually act this time. She's alittle wooden sometimes.

The Libertine - Johnny Depp and John Malkovich 2gether so the acting willb top class. Besides JD makes such interesting movies.

Lord of War - but i hear it's a comedy drama?

Into the Blue - maybe now Paul Walker can act

Transporter 2 - yeah, i know the 1st when was crap but this one hopefull willb better.

Memoirs of a Geisha - but i dunno cos the book was great but kinda depressing!!

NO one has mentioned DOOM yet... aren't there any nerds here or am I alone? I remember Doom 95, scared the crap outta me when I was 7 or 8. Doom 2 really topped it off after that. Doom 3 which came out almost a year ago was also creepy as hell, but not exactly fun.... Either way though, the movie can't suck, it just can't... Unless you're a non-nerd, maybe then it can.

I'll have to give silent hills a try sometime though. Never heard of it before. The creepiest video game I've ever played was Thief Gold in the Haunted Cathedral... Even then I believe I was only 14 when I played that so, naturally, I was a wuss... still am.

Oooh...stop stop! ::: plugs ears :::

You know what's more? The American versions that we've played are actually watered down versions of the Japanese originals. In Silent Hill 2 (I think it was 2, at least) for example, there's a part that was cut out where the undead carcasses of mutilated children come after you.

I still have difficulty playing these games alone, in the dark...so creepy.

They are also making a Silent Hill movie.

Wasn't House of the Dead enough punishment?

Silent Hill is actually being directed by someone very respectable (IMO atleast) Christophe Gans.

:D

I saw waiting and it was really funny, but the coolest thing is...

I just found out the writer/director is from my shitting home town, and I use to eat at the place he worked. I just thought that was really cool and it blew my mind.

it also makes me wonder about the food I ate there :?

When I was In the states a few weeks ago I saw transporter 2, first of all every one in american movie theters are rude, they dont turn of their cell phones and they keep on talking through the whole movie. Second transporter 2 had some cool fight scenes, worst CGI I have ever seen in my life. And thirdly the transporter is the smoothest mother fucker in the world

Loved Transporter2 fantastic saw it recently MUCH better than the first. It didn't disappoint at all. I can't wait for the 3rd one!!!!

Spielberg's movie is getting controversy from Isarealis but it could still win an Oscar
