Dr. Ruth: Erections Make Men’s Brains Fly Out of Their Penis

Dear, sweet, generally great Dr. Ruth found herself in the middle of an Internet shitstorm when she said that women shouldn’t get naked with a man in bed if they’re not going to have sex with them – not a bad piece of advice on the surface – because according to some old Jewish myth, our brains fly out of our penis when we get an erection, so we’re not responsible for what happens next – okay, very bad advice. Via Jezebel:

I am very worried about college campuses saying that a woman and a man — or two men or two women, but I talk right now about women and men — can be in bed together, Diane, and at one time, naked, and at one time he or she, most of the time they think she, can say “I changed my mind.”
No such thing is possible. In the Talmud, in the Jewish tradition, it says when that part of the male anatomy is aroused and there’s an erection, the brain flies out of that and we have to take that very seriously, so I don’t agree with that.

Dr. Ruth then tried to make things better on Twitter. She didn’t.

While I’m definitely not going to argue that getting naked with a dude you’re not going to have sex with generally isn’t a good idea, if a woman says, “I change my mind. Stop,” I don’t care if you’re mid-thrust, back-flip, whatever, you fucking stop that shit immediately. I’m not saying you can’t sigh really loudly and go, “Fine,” then run and jerk off in the bathroom, but when she says stop, you goddamn stop. There’s not even a gray area here, and no, it doesn’t count if they’re unconscious, Bill Cosby. That’s actually worse. And why are you near my coffee po- *slump*
