#43- If Connery wanted Bond to die so badly, then why did he run off to Warner Brothers after quitting the series to do a remake of Thunderball with that skank, Kim Basinger?

#49- Casino Royale was the television debut of James (Jimmy) Bond in 1954 on CBS. It was broadcast live as part of the “Climax Mystery Theater.” Barry Nelson played Bond in this one. You’re thinking of the 1967 spoof.
    “Do your freakin homework”.

#51, please remember the details behind that film. sir sean said he would NEVER do bond again. thus the title, “never say never again”

and spindoc, i’m surprised at you, mixing up your silly british actors (don’t flame me, i’m fragile!). david niven!!
but yes, he definitely continued to work.

Nice work, #52. But you’ll note I was commenting specifically about the 1967 version and the casting comment made by spindoc – not discounting other versions like the book, or the tv show.

    Connery doesn’t want the franchise to die…’.';;

If he did he wouldn’t have excepted his face be on the videogame From Russia with Love. Unless he just wanted the check…

Does this guy even have any hair? oy – I’m pretty sure he’s on the very BOTTOM of the list of guys I’d like to see naked. Couldn’t they have picked Colin Farrell? I think full frontal male nudity is the last taboo to break in terms of main stream film, but it just seems out of character for Bond…I picture him in a tux or a bathrobe…not naked with his man-parts being tortured – nastay.

I remember thinking he was sexy in that shower scene in Tombraider but sexy in a potato-faced dwarf kinda way.

#53, sorry, that comment should have been split in two.
i was responding to the peter sellers comment, also lightly toasting spindoc (who is my hero), no flames here. and heaven help me, i don’t remember the tv show.
i should also note that as far as i can remember, wasn’t
“get smart” loosely based on the bond franchise?

Have any of you complainers actually seen him in a film?

I don’t know if he’ll do even an adequate James Bond per se, but he’s been a terrific character actor in other films, intense and edgy. Like Connery, he has very expressive eyes. He is certainly not lacking in acting ability. Who the fuck cares about the stick shift?!? That is so ridiculous.

I think y’all oughta wait till AFTER you see the film to decide if he sucks or not.

I’d rather see an interesting actor–even if, OFFSCREEN, he’s not the soul of machismo–than another goddamned stupid male model or pompous wanna-be Olivier (and no, I don’t mean Pierce Brosnan, he’s lovely and firing him was evil.)

As far as nudity goes…heh heh. No problem. Although I’d rather it’d been Sean. He IS Bond. Still. Period. *sigh*

But anyway, if they can reinvent this series in a more modern, original, offbeat mode, it might just save the cinematic Bond. They can’t go on the way they’ve been; man, that formula is just sooo tired. That’s my theory as to why they hired Craig: they wanted a character actor, someone not so mainstream and predictable and dull.

    Maybe it’ll work.

I’m going to wait and see.

    tiki-
no, i haven’t seen him in a film and that’s part of my point. once again i beg of y’all, give me a frame of reference!
pierce wasn’t bond, but at least he had some sex appeal.
sean will always be bond (and a star in some of my dreams). and damn, i can talk to a scotsman all day long and be happy, be it sir sean or billy conolly. that accent, whooo-boy.
