Corey Haim pulled a Brittany Murphy

March 10th, 2010 // 114 Comments

Walking punchline to every 80s joke Corey Haim died this morning from an apparent accidental overdose while battling the flu, according to TMZ:

We’ve learned Corey had been sick the last couple of days with flu-like symptoms. The medications recovered, however, were not related to his illness, sources tell TMZ.
We’re told no illicit drugs were found in the apartment.
Sources say Haim got out of bed just before 1 AM and collapsed in front of his mother. She called 911 at 12:53 AM and Corey was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 AM.
Corey’s mom told authorities he had been battling prescription drug addiction for years.

While it must’ve been terrible to see her drug addict son reach his inevitable conclusion, the person I feel most sad for is Corey Feldman who no doubt was awaken in the middle of the night when their psychic bond was broken.

COREY: *sits straight up* Imzadi. NOOOOO!
HOOKER: Baby, calm down, you’re having a bad dream.
COREY: Ack! You’re not Michael Jackson!

This is sad. I had such a crush on him growing up. Regardless of what he became later on in life. I still have fond memories of watching Dream a LIttle Dream, Lost boys, and License to Drive.

RIP Corey. Hopefully you’re in a better place now.

Does Haim look fat on that cover or what? Heard he weighed 300 lbs. at some point. Doesn’t look quite that heavy here:

As with your coverage of the death of Andrew Koenig, I find The Superficial’s coverage of this death to be tactless.

Remember the post when Cameron Diaz’s father passed away a few years ago? THAT was a gracious, humane way to acknowledge the death of someone w/ a somewhat-public profile. I would ask the writer of The Superficial (I’m assuming that sometime in the last year the writer has changed, since the calibre of this site has decreased dramatically) to use that as a template for further death-related post.

Alas, I must confess: the Imzadi reference made me laugh. I am ashamed of myself.

    ” his looks never faded”

Did you not look at the somewhat current photo up there? If that’s what his unfaded looks are, I’d hate to see what would’ve happened had his looks actually faded.

I love when people whine that a site called the SUPERFICIAL dares not be deep and meaningful. Shocker.

Come on. Poke fun at him later if you have to, but why not stick to your *old* way of doing things – actually posting something decent and respectful at least in the first announcement of his death? Do you have to stoop to Perez’ level?

Apologise to his family. Delete this thing and do something nice. Be a man.

I can’t believe there are so many heartless people on this site, including the site itself and the writer of Superficial. You are not very nice people. I am not sure if any of you have ever had a family member who had a drug problem and if you didn’t you are one of the lucky ones. My heart goes out to Corey’s Mom, family and friends. Corey, my God bless you.

Was it necessary to make a parting shot at the other Corey in a sensitive time right now for us fans and followers of great American culture that was dearly departed and taken away form us so suddenly. This has become a serious pandemic the prescription abuse and has now subjected me pain and agony now that he has been taken away from me by the American government. Your remarks are unwarranted and I will not be returning to you garbage ass site!

I think it’s funny when people come on “The Superficial” looking for people’s comments to be nice and nonjudgemental to a junkie who died of an overdose, hahaha! Cracks me up. Go to Corey’s fan page on myspace if you are looking for people to praise the guy, but you’re in the wrong place here. I mean, yea, I feel bad for his family that he died, but it’s not like it was a tragic accident that they didn’t see coming. His own mom said that he’s been addicted to prescription drugs for years. It’s just how these sort of things turn out. One more reason to stay off drugs.

If you’re really that sensitive during this time, perhaps staying away from gossip sites are in your best interest.

Of course, if you were really such a fan and follower, you’d realize this was in no way “sudden” as Haim has been on a downhill slide for years. He’d been living on borrowed time for a good ten years.

Hey JR (29), You’re right. Laughter IS the best medicine. But I’m pretty fucking certain that the people who actually cared about Corey Haim, i.e., his mother, wouldn’t find anything humorous about the posts on this site mocking her son’s death.

I love this website. I think it’s hilarious. But I also think it’s really shitty for people to openly ridicule someone’s death, regardless of who they are or how they died. I also believe that the same people who write nasty shit like that would never in a million years have the balls to say it in person. It’s alot easier to be an asshole behind the anonymity of your computer, isn’t it?

That said, I’m finished with this website if they don’t bring the other writer back. He was genuinely funny and witty and also had the good taste to refrain from ridiculing someone’s death. Yeah, he made joking comments from time to time, but he wasn’t a complete asshole about it. This new guy seriously sucks. He’s not funny. He’s a fucking idiot. I’m going to stick with “the Blemish” or “Celebslam” from now on.

According to Los Angeles Coroner assistant chief Ed Winter, there were no signs of foul play in Haim’s death. Winter has confirmed four “normal” prescription bottles were found at the actors apartment and “no illicit drugs (were) found at the residence”.

So fuck off you ass holes that believe a speed-ball or whatever led to his death.

Really a bummer. I wasn’t a fan or anything, it just sucks that anyone dies that young. I know a lot of addicts and some of them, a-holes who got into drugs when they were in their 20′s and should have known better, deserve what they get. But I can’t imagine having to battle addiction as a 14 year old kid or whatever. People who are not addicts or have never been around addicts might not realize what a tough battle it can be, especially if you don’t have a good support network. It’s just a shame he didn’t get the help he needed as a kid.

Corey Haim, an actor whose status as a teenage heartthrob of the 1980s gave way to substance abuse and rehabilitation as an adult, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Burbank, Calif. Haim was staying with his cancer-stricken mother, Judy, in the famed Oakwood Apartments (site of Rick James’ death in 2006), when he collapsed early in morning.
