Cameron Diaz offends Peruvians

Cameron Diaz visited Peru’s Machu Picchu last Friday and offended everybody there by carrying around a green bag with a red star and the phrase “Serve the People” in Chinese. Turns out the phrase is a slogan used by Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong, and Peru has a history of communist insurgencies, including the Maoist Shining Path insurgency of the 1980s and early 1990s that left nearly 70,000 dead. A Peruvian human rights activist tells the AP:

“It alludes to a concept that did so much damage to Peru, that brought about so many victims. I don’t think she should have used that bag where the followers of that ideology did so much damage.”

On Sunday, Cameron apologized for her idiocy, emailing a statement to the AP:

“I sincerely apologize to anyone I may have inadvertently offended. The bag was a purchase I made as a tourist in China and I did not realize the potentially hurtful nature of the slogan printed on it. I’m sorry for any people’s pain and suffering and it was certainly never my intention to reopen what I now know is a painful wound in this country’s history.”

That’s what happens when you’re Cameron Diaz and stupid. I heard last month she wanted to visit Alabama wearing her new ghost costume, but at the last minute canceled and went to an Indian reservation wearing her cowboy outfit instead.

Whoops; she must feel like a heel. But then, how the hell was she supposed to know? Its not like she speaks or reads the language. It was just a bad fashion call. I’m sure she will be more careful next time. She sure does look different since her schnoz job. If it wasn’t for her joker mouth, I might not even recognize her. She reminds me of a younger Ellen Barkin.

Fuck but the Superficial is turning into a boring little bitchtown. Are your writers all female and on the rag? Your attempt at badmouthing Cameron was lamearse. You guys usually write good articles, but this smacks of desperation. “Quick – Cameron Diaz is in the news! I can’t think of a joke about the bag. Can you Phyllis? Can you Darlene? Fuck!! We’ll have to go with that stupid shit the work experience girl came up with! Fuck, fuck, fuck! Now I’ve chipped a nail. Happy now, public?!” *sobbing noises*

Cameron is absolutely fair game here. When you travel out of country, it’s usually a good idea to have an idea of a country’s past and culture. But, of course, we wouldn’t want a movie star to have to pick up book–or a travel guide. Maybe when she visits Poland, she’ll wear a shirt with Hitler and Stalin on it with the caption, “These guys rock!”

That bag isn’t the only offensive part of her outfit. Isn’t there some sort of unspoken law that in order to dress yourself, you have to limit the number of colors you wear? My kids match stuff better than this.

And why are the people of Peru so concerned with what her bag says in Chinese? They speak Spanish.

For restitution, she should go back & give oral to every man in the country. Cam’s mouth is big enough to swallow several Peruvians simultaneously. As evidenced in the first picture.
She’ll be in and out of there in less than a week.

What kind of uninformed human rights activist said that to the AP?

That’s like saying that because Salvador Allende existed, Pinochet had to murder thousands of persons and now the People in Chile is offended by anyone wearing a bag with the image of Salvador Allende…

What a stupid human rights activist.

Why not just slap a swastica on the bag and be done with it? Although in terms of mass murders/genocides, Mao beats Hitler by quite a margin. She knows how to pick her horses, that’s for sure!

K, I’m not a member of the Cameron Diaz fan club or anything, but doesn’t Peru have better things to do? I refuse to believe that this is their biggest problem. I think using political slogans on clothing and accessories is stupid and you should probably know what shit actually says before you go around in public with it, but Cameron Diaz is not the president of the United States, so I’m not sure why the hell she owes anyone an apology. In fact, I refuse to believe that anyone in Peru that encountered Cameron Diaz can read Chinese well enough to have been offended by her bag. Offended by that hat, maybe, but her bag? No. If the most glaring example of offense to Peruvians is Cameron Diaz’s accessories, then I’d say the Peruvian human rights activists are not doing their jobs.

You’d figure the Peruvians would have been less upset about the bag and more upset about the fact that something sucked the blood out of every goat in the country shortly after Ugly Diaz got off the plane. Coincidence?

Last time I checked, the killing of Peruvians on the 80′s and 90′s was made by the government of Peru, not Sendero Luminoso.

Just ask Fujimori… I would be offended by someone wearing a bag quoting him.

Yes, and I’m sure that your source is the Republican Party’s website.

Ok, and let’s just say, that Abraham Lincoln murdered 90,000,000,000,000 people. Since it’s on the website jrzmommy gets information, we are just going to have to believe it.

Like I said, If you don’t know shit don’t say shit…

“Sendero Luminoso’s revolt was the biggest internal conflict ever seen by Peru, and the country came close to losing. At its height, around June-August 1992, Sendero Luminoso called for ‘armed strikes’, during which no one, or almost no one, dared travel – in Lima or any other region of the country. In July 1992, during one ‘armed strike’, not even the armed forces went out on patrol. A taxi driver who ran the risk of going out to work was shot down by Sendero gunmen in the Balconcillo area, his body incinerated inside the car.
