Britney Spears is reportedly on medication for bipolar disorder. She has seen several psychiatrists and has one that visits her regularly. Friends claim Britney does well on the medication, but when she feels normal she quits taking it causing her to go batshit. However, one professional tells TMZ the medication is just flat-out not working:
That same professional tells TMZ, “She’s really trying. Whether it works — we’ll have to see.” That person also says it’s extremely frustrating when the media shows video of Britney out on the town acting crazy, adding, “She has a disease. Sometimes when you see her she’s in the middle of an episode. It’s like mocking someone with Down syndrome.”
Wow. Did that person just say Britney Spears has Down syndrome? That’s a bit harsh. To people with Down syndrome that is. They try their best and are surprisingly great with kids. Britney on the other hand; well, she’s great with, uh, I dunno, socks?

With all due respect to the sudden flood of commenters who CLEARLY ARE MENTAL PATIENTS, it’s not unfair to compare bipolars or other psychiatric nut jobs to retards. Most psychiatric patients have lower than normal IQs, and it only gets worse as they get more and more absorbed into their “illness” by endless therapy sessions and support groups. Eventually all they ever do in life is talk about their problems, having learned nothing about other people and other things in life due to their self-absorbed lifestyle. At that point you’ve got a better chance at a decent conversation with a real retard, who will drool quite a bit and not be easy to understand, but WON’T start off every other sentence with, “And you know what REALLY HURT ME about that, I…” Honestly, we should pull the plug on all the suicide hotlines – the only good thing about mental patients is that some of them, due to suicide, are like self-cleaning ovens.

But seriously, to second what someone else said, “professionals” (professional what? hanger-on? friend? second cousin twice removed?) don’t talk about patients publicly, they certainly don’t talk about the medication a patient may be taking. Not if they want to be a professional for very long. That shit is against the law. You can lose your license for that. If this “professional” is not currently treating Britney, he/she doesn’t seem like a very credible source of info on how Britney is doing. And when TMZ is involved, that doesn’t exactly say “journalistic integrity” to me.

Where the meds will be hidden in their food or forced down their throats. You only have to stick a tube with meds down their throat once to get the point across. The reason you need to hide the meds in their food is because they always think that you are trying to poison them, which in her case sounds like a good idea.

guys, being bi-polar is a real disease that people do not easily accept they have. Believe me. My friend suffers from the disease and he has gotten into a lot worse of a mess than Britney.
It will take time for her to understand that she will only be ok while on the medications. She has definitely clearly gone through the manic episodes. My friend believed he could control time and reach a state of enlightenment that other people could not even comprehend while he was manic.
I can’t even imagine what it’s like to have a mental illness AND be stalked by the paparazzi everywhere. All we can do for Britney is pray she heals and stays on her medications and gets back to being healthy and happy. My thoughts are with her, as your’s should be too.

Down’s syndrome babies are not “ill” in the sense that they need constant medical . While there may be manifestations of mental illiness within a group of Down’s Syndrom children, they are likely to be more outgoing and socially savvy.
It most certainly has nothing to do with mental illness. I think, for Brit, she needs to come clean about the frightening, sad, destructive turn this womand’s life has taken.
I can say that if my DH and I ever got divorced I would go immediately to therapy to avoid the messiness of all of this.
But the bottom line is that I love my little cure blonde haired monster-girls to distracration. And anyone who tried to mess with me, or with them, would find a most unpleasant “end of discussion”.
But back to Brit …, I really hope she finds a doc she trusts and the medications work for her. Lithium is one of the oldest drugs available for bipolar disorder. The disease does not usually manifest with hallucinations., If she’s doing a lot of “extra” drugs that could interfere with the therapy.

My brother was treated for depression with Lexapro, which ended up sending him into a manic phase. I think it’s cruel for everyone to be so harsh. I was diagnosed manic psychotic but have been doing well in recent years. I am 5′ 4″ with a big smile and an IQ of 92 but I still need love ya know? I have an undescended testicle and no body hair but I still think I am a man.

Down Syndrome is not a mental disease; it’s a genetic disorder caused by an extra chromosome. It is not treatable. DS peeps have learning disabilities and limited cognative abilities. Given their limitations, they generally are what they are and are typically happy and kind people.
BP is a roller coaster ride that is treatable. Untreated, the BP person can be everything from an outgoing, successful fun person everyone loves to a total whack job and anything in between.
