Bristol Palin shoots down abstinence-only education

February 17th, 2009 // 88 Comments

Bristol Palin, everyone’s favorite unwed teenage mom (Jamie Lynn who?), sat down with FOX News last night and dropped two major bombs. Governor Palin’s daughter made Rupert Murdoch’s head explode by saying sexual abstinence is unrealistic and that every woman should have the right to choose. NY Daily News reports:

Stopping teen sex? Ain’t gonna happen.
So says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Monday night that the abstinence her mom preaches is “not realistic at all.”
Bristol Palin, who gave birth in late December, described the rigors of being a teen mom, and while she wouldn’t go into detail why it isn’t realistic for guys and gals her age not to have sex, she did say it isn’t smart to get knocked up.
“Everyone should wait 10 years,” Palin said. “I hope people learn from my story. It’s so much easier if you’re married, have a house and career. It’s not a situation you want to strive for.”
She denied that her mother’s anti-abortion views were the reason she went ahead with the pregnancy.
“It was my choice to have the baby,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what my mom’s views are on it. It was my decision.”

Jesus. Giving an interview with logical, effectively communicated answers? At this point Bristol Palin might as well have peed on the Bible then joined PETA because she’s out of the family. They’re probably dog-sledding her out to an igloo as we speak. Facts based on real-world scenarios. Ha! Adorable.

I hate Bristol. She is a bitch. She pretty told the whole world “no i don’t want my kid”. i feel sorry for that kid. more than that though, she has just made every teenage mom struggling to make a life feel like an idot and set us back about 100 years. yeah. thanks bitch. if i could say something to her it would be: “unlike you Bristol some of the teen moms out there relize that life is hard with or without a child. some of us have gone on the become great people but none of us are famous and as for you wanting to “set an example” fuck off i hope my children and yours grow up to hate you. thanks for you time.”

yes i am aware that i cannot spell and that i did not use correct grammar. screw it.

    love,
a teen mom who voted obama!

    Really nice couple!!
Have seen many beautiful couples on === Agelessmate.c o m === the place where hot cougars and sexy young men;and handsome old folks with sensual chicks meet and mingle! You may wanna check it out!LOL

  3. betsy

She didn’t say that she was pro choice (at least not in the excerpt you included). She said that it was her choice to have the baby. That means her mom didn’t pressure into keeping it… she is still probably pro life.

  4. GioNYC

She’s right. Good for her. Teens will always have sex and no-one can stop it.
Finally someone that speaks out and does not give a damn about what the media says.

#51 Save your hatred for her obtusely ignorant mother. By reducing funds allocated for Covenant House Palin put off for several years programs and the building of a facility where teenage moms can live while completing their HS educations and get some sort of job training. She saved each taxpayer $14. Yay.

Unless they’re fortunate enough to get a safety net like this, over 30% of teenage single moms live their lives below the poverty line – which usually means on welfare, aka your tax dollars at work, and that handout costs us all a shitload more than $14 a year. Since pregnancy among 15-19 year old girls is now increasing, I’d say abstinence-only isn’t working too well. It’s nice that Bristol’s family can take care of her and her kid, but not everyone has that. When Palin’s abstinence-only-no-birth-control/no-graphic-sex-education system fails, and if abortion isn’t readily available, the drain of dead-end-job teenage moms and kids they choose to keep just never ends. Sarah can’t do the math any more than she can give a coherent interview.

If abstinence worked we would have seen a decline in the last 6-8 since Bush made it the only allowable birth control method to be taught in school. Instead there’ s been an increase in teen pregnancies that hasn’t been seen in decades. Kids who are taught abstinence are more likely to not use protection when they end up actually having sex. And if you don’t believe me, just do a search online.

  8. Well, right to lifers do want kids and women having lots of sex and lots of babies. Its all about reproduction and gods will essentially.

  9. Truth Doctor

Why the hell do people bring up Fox News in this thread? I swear, it’s like their lives revolve around that news station. Seriously, grow the fuck up already. And that’s the truth.

  10. my comment

That is one lucky baby to be born into that family.

Bristol is a far better person than those people who are trashing her.

  11. It's Trig's mom, you betcha

Compared to Sarah, Bristol is Shakespeare. Here’s part of what Sarah babbled about in the same interview: “…I”m proud about her wanting to take on an advocacy role and, you know, just let other girls know that this is — it’s not the most ideal situation, but certainly, make the most of it.” Huh?

  12. Bob

Now how come this article didn’t “like” truly “like” quote her intelligent interview?

“It’s just, like, I’m not living for myself anymore. It’s, like, for another person, so it’s different,”

Like mother like daughter. No IQ points lost in that family. Can’t lose what you don’t have…

    She is cute though.

  13. Kate

No trying to stop teen sex is not going to work but use some damn birth control!
If you’re not able to walk into a store and get condoms or get on the pill, you have no right having sex!
It blows my mind that people have sex without a damn thing between them these days! I realize that birth control can fail.
Not just are teen pregnancy rates up, but STD’s are through the roof!

  14. Jason

Perhaps a better headline would be, “SLUT: ABSTINENCE DOESN’T WORK FOR SLUTS.”

  15. maria

wtf is wrong with him he always looks stiff and stoned

  16. RaraAvis

No surprise that her views are different than her mother’s. After all, it’s not like her mother is at the dinner table bonding with her on a nightly basis. Politicians’ kids probably see less of their parents than the average kid.

  17. China Bob

‘Giving an interview with logical, effectively communicated answers? ‘ Ha… ha… just like umhh… read the actual interview, just like, her actual words, just like, umhh…. she’s her mom’s daughter all right!

  18. truth

“That is one lucky baby to be born into that family.

Bristol is a far better person than those people who are trashing her.”

Nah, she’s just a fattie teen whore. And we all know her kid is fucked.

  19. lawrec

I feel sorry for that poor lady. I saw this guy’s personal ad is still available at that millionaire da*ting site “Richromances.com”. What happend to this couple?

  20. justifiable

    #67 Such as.
Ironic, isn’t it, that the ones who are numb from the neck up are invariably the ones who breed the most?

  21. Dude, your agenda is to further the Democrat party by slandering Bristol Palin by a) Quoting the NY Daily News (no partiality there, huh? Yeah right…) and 2) taking her comments out of context. We all know how happy you personally were when Barack Obama became the new president and how many hard-ons you had on that (now officially “fake” day of inauguration.) So just come out and say you are a Democrat and your agenda includes slandering anyone remotely affiliated with the GOP? At least that way viewers will know what they are getting themselves into when they log onto your website…

  22. justwait

It seems you are happy together. But this guy’s profile is still active at” C e l e b m i n g l e. C 0 M”. You are no longer a single already. Are you looking for only pals over there?

  23. Cletus

    Really nice couple!!
Have seen many beautiful couples on === InbredRepublican.c o m === the place where hot retards and sexy young creationists;and handsome old folks with inbred children meet and mingle! You may wanna check it out!LOL

  24. The bun

Wow she should have run for office instead of her brainless mother.

  25. What a bunch of bull. It’s more than possible to NOT have teenaged sex. I never had sex as a teen, and never had the desire to do so either. That’s just young teenaged girl talk.

  26. name withheld

#75 Abstinence doesn’t count for shit if no one wants to fuck you and you don’t have any hormones anyway.

  27. Jesus

    “Everyone should wait 10 years,”
    From age 7, evidently.

  28. Yeah yeah yeah #76. How about you morph into someone that actually has something interesting to say?

  29. zsa

@13 & 19 You tell ‘em! Well said both of you…

What’s with the semantics on slang. So what if she says ain’t? So does at least 85% of America. Get over it.

Bristol for Pres.!! J/K. Have to say, of the quote in question, she made more sense, and showed more intelligence and rationality, than her mom ever did.

The hypocracy of people never ceases to amaze me…and scare me to death (When they’re running for Pres. and VP). But enough politics…

The dude looks scared out of his mind! If her mom hadn’t been running for VP, that boy would have been long gone…

    zsa

  30. Yoshi99

@75 Just because you couldn’t find a willing participant.

  31. #80 yeah right, and I have nothing to prove to you. You’re too funny.

  32. Will Soka

What do you expect her to say?
#1 She is eighteen and chose not to show restraint. We all have to chose.

#2 The fact is sexual abstinence does work. Show me one baby who was conceived in abstinence. Im waiting…
Now show me how many were conceived with “safe sex”. Not always safe is it.

Even in this the media twists words. When did she become the spokeswoman for promiscuous conduct. Check back with her in 5 years.

  33. Rich

doesnt surprise me – her mom and her party made the kids say and do a ton of stupid stuff just to try and win the election – failed

  34. Stephie

My husband and I both waited until we were married to have sex. We were married at 23, and have great sex now. We are both attractive people who dated regularly before meeting each other. Saying teen sex has to happen is like saying anyone under the age of 18 doesn’t posses the ability to exercise self discipline,. Maybe you were brain dead at 16 and let your crotch do your decision making but we were smarter then that.. We are pregnant with our first child now and we make 6 figures a year.. couldn’t have done that with a baby at 16.

  35. I am waiting until her and the bush twins who have also expressed no parental views become active members of the democratic party. She is right though kids will have sex and it is unrealistic to think we can put that genie back in the bottle. We are reaching a point where I think it will level off in the next 10 or 15 years though. There will be those who exercise that freedom and those that don’t and we will come to a societal conclusion that is just how things are and move on to the next issue that is really about parent’s own vanity rather than child protection.

  36. Bristol in 2012? Good for her for taking a somewhat difference stance from Mrs. “I can see Russia from my House.”

  37. @12 – http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ain't

Hmm. Has she renounced Christianity now? Said Jesus Christ was a deluded fool? What’s next?

Look at these two dim-witted fugs. That baby has the deck stacked against it.

@70 – It’s true! Intellectuals generally don’t have as many children. They must be thinking more than 30 seconds ahead of the moment.

  38. Why the hell out of people Fox News this thread? I swear, is how their lives revolve around the news. Seriously, growing confused already. And that is the truth.
