On Beyonce, Black Lives Matter, And Pussy Cops Who Are Afraid of Her
Let me start off by saying that I believe the majority of police officers are good, decent men and women who genuinely strive to serve and protect their communities the best they can. Unfortunately, they’re being painted with a broad brush thanks to some bad apples, and even more damning, a union that zealously protects those apples. Which makes it very difficult for the good ones to speak up without risking their jobs or personal safety, and that is some bullshit.
That said, I also know that since the 1960s, law enforcement in America has been consciously engineered to appease white people’s pants-pissing fear of African-Americans after the civil rights movement. Whenever you hear the words, “tough on crime,” that usually means, “we’re going to to arrest the shit out of some black people, for something.” (See: drugs, the war on) And this was done by politicians on both sides of the aisle, which is why one of the best sources on the current state of American policing is written by a libertarian. It’s called Rise of The Warrior Cop, and if you’re worried about jack-booted thugs trampling over Americans’ rights, surprise, it’s been going on for decades, but you didn’t care because entire revenue streams weren’t being built on fining and jailing your white ass.
Which brings us to Black Lives Matter, a protest movement in direct response to African-Americans being “systematically and intentionally targeted for demise” that’s been sparked by the questionable deaths of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and way too many others. It’s a movement that takes aim at a legal system that inadequately addresses abuse of police power, and often egregiously, when it results in the death of black citizens. Now, say what you will about the effectiveness of BLM’s methods – I’d call the DOJ investigation of Ferguson a good start. – but only the most reductive of willfully ignorant idiots would say their goal is to get cops killed. Except that hasn’t stopped police departments filled with sensitive flowers from saying exactly that, and naturally it was parroted like gangbusters by racist, white authoritarian nuts the Internet over. Fortunately, there are still these things called facts. And in 2015, not only did the number of officers being killed in the line of duty not go up during the height of Black Lives Matter, that shit went down. 2015 was literally one of the safest years on record for being a cop. Whoops.
So with that information out there, you’d think law enforcement would tone it down. But then Beyoncé performed during the Super Bowl halftime show where she showed support for Black Lives Matter, and judging by the reactions, you’d think she fired a goddamn Tommy Gun into the air and yelled, “I’m gonna getcha, coppers!” FOX News lost its mind (which would’ve happened regardless), the Fraternal Order of Police in Miami issued a boycott, and the NYPD want her to tell the entire world she doesn’t support violence against police officers even though they admit that’s not at all what she meant. You can’t make this shit up.
On top of that, a Tennessee sheriff gave a press conference where he actually blamed Beyoncé for gunshots outside of his house. Via Raw Story:
“With everything that’s happened since the Super Bowl and with law enforcement as a whole, I mean, I think we’ve lost five to seven officers, five deputy sheriffs, since Sunday’s Super Bowl, you know?” Arnold said in a video of the press conference posted by the Tennesseean newspaper. “That’s what I’m thinking: here’s another target on law enforcement.”
Asked to clarify his comment about the Super Bowl, the sheriff pointed to Beyoncé.
“Well, you had Beyoncé’s video, and how that’s kind of bled over into other things it seems like, about law enforcement,” Arnold said.
Turns out this isn’t just some backwoods sheriff pulling shit out of his ass. He’s literally quoting talking points from the National Sheriffs Association who publicly tried to lay the death of five officers since the Super Bowl at Beyoncé’s feet. These are high ranking law enforcement officials with evidence and common sense at their disposal, yet their first reaction to the slightest form of criticism is to blame Beyoncé for officers dying in the line of duty. But people aren’t supposed to think cops have a racism problem.
And here’s the real kicker. Matt Osborne at Breitbart Unmasked took a look at each of those deaths. Four out of the five shooters were white males, and the one black guy shot a black officer. More importantly, these were all routine police calls with absolutely zero political context whatsoever, or basically, shit that happens. Yet still the National Sheriffs Association saw fit to blame Beyonce for domestic abusers and sex offenders shooting at cops because her dancers posted a sign on Instagram. Nope, no chilling concerns there.
Now, if you want to know something that’s really getting cops killed, I’ll tell you: The FN Five-seven. It’s literally called the “cop killer,” and if you’re wondering why I’m bringing it up, you’ve seen someone who really likes the company that makes it:
— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) February 16, 2016
“Why does Jeb Bush love actual things that kill cops?” asks nobody.
