Everyone keeps reffering to Obama as the first black president but he is only half black, the other half is white. I don’t think his race really should have been such a deal and if people want to be more politically correct they can refer to him as the first mixed president. The fact is things have been sucking under the bush campaign for sometime which pretty much ruied it for mc cain and the fact is we do need some type of change and I don’t think that would of came from mc cain, his policies were very much similar to bushes. Things are not going to change over night but atleast Barrack inspires that and is able to give hope to a people who have lost hope for a long time. Maybe he won’t be one of the greatest presidents ever but that doesn’t mean he does not derserve a chance to be one.

Yes, many different types of people and opinions exist within my country–some of which I surely don’t agree with–but on the whole, I think most Americans have good hearts and good intentions.

And some of our cities are very beautiful and/or are particularly fun places to be. First, I would just like to remind everyone that the people Mr. Obama says he will raise taxes on are those making over 250,000 $ a year. I don’t know about everyone else in here, but I don’t make that much. I’m a broke 21 year old, living on my own, working a FULL time job and barely scraping by, BUT I do not get a dime of welfare from ANYONE. I certainly earn my own keep, and am currently working towards going to school to make a very bright future for myself. A future that hopefully includes making 250 k a year so I can complain about the amount of taxes I pay. If you’re making that much,( which I’ll admit, in the big scheme of things isn’t much more than pocket change) then you have not been as terribly affected by 4 $ gas prices and rising cost of EVERYTHING as the true middle class has been. And if you don’t make that much, shut up, you’re not having your taxes raised. I was raised by a single mom who worked 3 jobs to support her family, and she didn’t take a dime of welfare. She earned everything she had. And if you think growing up like that made me feel sorry for those on welfare, you’re wrong. We watched while families who had both parents working, drove new *leased* cars and lived in nice houses (while we lived in an apartment) collect food stamps, housing assistance, the works. So yeah, I get mad when I see the wrong people collecting, but most people miss the point of welfare. It’s not intended to be a life long ordeal, and not intended for the people who want to quit their nursing jobs and sit on their ass, it’s supposed to be a temporary leg up for those who have fallen on hard times. If you think the meaning behind welfare is bad, then stop worrying about the kids on tv in Africa who are starving. Maybe they need to get up and get a job like the rest of us. And yeah, it is the same thing. Sure, we do live in a country where there is alot more opportunity available, but we also live in a country where racism, sexism, and prejudice are rampant- which can keep an honest, wanna-be hard working individual on a minimum wage job, making less and less while the cost of living goes up and up. And if you can’t relate to that and need something a little closer to home, quit feeling sorry for those who just lost their house due to foreclosure, they must not have been working as hard as they should’ve been. Oops. In the end, there is ALOT wrong with this country (fortunately, due to who the majority of Americans chose the other night, not quite as much as i previously thought), the last 8 years have been a living hell for those who are struggling already, and with Obama in office, things might finally start to get better.
