Hey now, I heard that the floor they let those illegal alien workers sleep on was hosed down once a week. Now that’s a company that cares.
Whoa – it looks promising that some forms of the disease can be confirmed, but it’s by no means the slam-dunk diagnostic tool you think it is. The study was only made up of patients with one single chronic, long-term (over 10 years) previously-diagnosed form of mental illness with no comorbidity – in other words, with one clear set of symptoms that hadn’t changed in over a decade, and no other accompanying disorders or illnesses. That’s an incredibly narrow category to deal with when it comes to mental illness. FYI, the “abnormal” brain structure that the study identified doesn’t appear in all schizophrenics, and has also been identified in people who do not have the disease
So for tougher clinical cases? It would probably fail miserably when faced with having to “diagnose” more than one symptomology – and since a very large segment of people with mental illnesses like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder have overlapping symptoms than can change over time, as well as accompanying disorders, its usefulness is still really limited. It certainly can’t diagnose early onset of the disease.
My ex’s dad was wearing a pot on his head and pouring milk down the drain because it was irradiated, so I hear ya about your friend. It’s a really horrible thing for the person who has it, and the delusions and irrational behavior are fucking hard for those who have to live with them.
But on the other hand, she actually IS being followed by the paps to document whatever meltdown is in the offing, so you can’t say she doesn’t have a good reason to hide. Since she’s self-medicating, either the alcohol and prescription meds combined with who-knows-what-other-substances in the street drugs she’s taking can also have masking or exacerbating effects on her blood chemistry and symptoms – so with a clouded picture like that, any sort of snap internet diagnosis any one of us ABD shrinks cares to make is probably not going to anywhere near accurate.
Yeah, corporations are just the same as people – so of course the Supremes will rule that GM can be arrested and tried for criminally negligent homicide..
WalMart also firmly believes that if you get pregnant from being raped, it’s your own fault because you didn’t wear your diaphragm.
They may be in some form of denial, but honestly, it isn’t as cut-and-dried as paranoia= schizophrenia. Don’t assume the wig is the equivalent of a tinfoil hat – if you had paparazzi sticking cameras in your face at every opportunity, would you be “paranoid” for wearing dark glasses, a disguise, or holding something (girl, don’t hurt the dog) up in front of your face to protect yourself?
Aside from the fact that weed can actually heighten anxiety and fear, “paranoia” can run from a general distrust and fear of being taken advantage of (not too outrageous a notion if you’re a Hollywood kid) to being convinced everyone is involved in a conspiracy against you. It’s part of the mental illness package in everything from erotomania to bipolar disorder to schizophrenia to paranoid personality disorder. IMO I think she’s self-medicating to assuage the symptoms of something, but it’s impossible to tell exactly what.

Just out of curiosity – when they call security, how many guys show up?

Yeah, because “serious drugs” that can only be prescribed by a doctor never, ever make their way onto the streets where anyone can buy ‘em. People with mental illness often self-medicate with street drugs and don’t take the meds they should be on, because the side effects can be hard to live with.

You really have no idea how “out of touch and totally in denial” they actually are, because parents of adult children with mental illness pretty much have no rights or resources when it comes to making their children help themselves. Fish was beating the bad-parent drum when she first appeared to be in trouble, but it’s an easy – and I do have to say ignorant – drum to beat as there is no program that can force people to take their REAL meds, and if you forceably remove someone to your home to take care of them because it’s in their best interests, it’s still called kidnapping. Even if your ill,of-age child gets arrested for doing drugs, unless they manifest really outrageous mental issues during or immediately after the arrest, they’re not going to be put in psych hold, no matter how ill you know them to be. And unless that hold is more than 24 hours, if your kid has been self-medicating with street drugs to cope with something like rapid cycling, the symptoms still may not show up. They only way Bynes’ parents were able to get her into court and get any sort of conservatorship going was after she committed a criminal act – which is, unfortunately, what any parent of mentally ill adults has to go through.
The statutes are meant to protect people so that no one can get committed on anyone else’s say-so, but the downside is that your adult child has to actually do something criminally violent or destructive, like setting the neighbor’s property on fire or shooting up a school – before you can get some enforced care.

Ignorance really is bliss!
