Think: The accidential drowning scenario was always implausible. Who had a motive to kill her? Wagner admits in his autobiography that because his first marriage to Natalie ended due to an affair with a co-star (Warren Beatty), he was nervous about Walken, who was at that time co-starring with her in Brainstorm.
It’s much more likely that the cuckolded and infuriated husband struck her during an argument (causing the unexplained facial injuries) than that she put on a down jacket and attempted to either secure or board the dinghy. (When had she ever done that before? Or was she drunk/strung out enough to no longer fear water? Duh, don’t think so….)
