And here’s Kirk Cameron again.

February 26th, 2010 // 138 Comments

Because Jesus wouldn’t waste free publicity, Kirk Cameron issued People the following statement regarding the suicide of his Growing Pains co-star Andrew Koenig:

“It is with great sorrow to hear about the final outcome of the search for my old friend Andrew. I hope everyone will be sensitive to the Koenigs and give the family some private time to reflect and to grieve the loss of their beloved son. At a time like this, we all are reminded of the briefness of life and the importance of being ready for our eternal destination. My prayers will continue to be with Andrew’s family.”

Listen, what happened to Andrew Koenig was, no question, tragic for his family. I couldn’t even imagine. But let’s be honest, nobody cared about Boner from Growing Pains until this week and now he’s become an excuse for a bunch of people to pretend they’re hyper-sensitive human beings with their “Oh, I’m hollow inside.”; “My heart skipped a beat” and other fake sympathies. Even worse, you’ve got Kirk Cameron capitalizing on the death of “an old friend” he apparently never talked to just to push the oldest swindle known to man: Claiming to know what happens when you die.

I’m not trying to get on a soapbox here, but what I am trying to say is Hilary Duff needs to blow someone in front of the paparazzi again. I’m not guaranteeing that will help. But, dammit, we have to try.

How tragic: Mike Seaver lost his Boner

  2. I love the people who come on here and claim to have any clue who an anonymous writer is.

The one taking opportunities in the death of Andrew Koenig is the Superficial writer–opportunities to take a slap at Christianity and people’s rights to talk about their beliefs without withering criticism. I don’t see any Bible-thumping or fanaticism in Kirk Cameron’s statements; we all need to remember that life is short and can end at any time. Being prepared for that end, regardless of your personal beliefs, is something that people should remember.

In case you haven’t noticed, Christianity is the prevailing religion/point-of-view in this country, much as Islam is in the Middle East. The big difference is that you’re not going to be punished or killed in this country for ridiculing it. That said, your readership may go down. No one wants your opinion about religion; try to be funny and satirical about celebrity activities–that’s why people hit this site. More ridiculous comments like the one in this article and we’ll look elsewhere.

that’s Kirk Cameron? Maybe he’s getting Jesus to change salt mounds into coke and meth for him to snort.

    @ #103, I agree completely

People are sometimes too quick to forget that “Freedom of Religion” includes freedom FROM religion, too. People can have whatever beliefs they want, just keep it out of the public domain (government and schools, especially!). One place religious claptrap definitely doesn’t belong is on a celebrity gossip site, and any quasi-celeb such as Mr Cameron should be ashamed of himself for issuing a statement to People Magazine. Does he think the Koenig family appreciates him taking the opportunity to push his own agenda in their time of grieving? A private phone call/card/flowers etc would have been much more appropriate. He’s become a religious fanatic, and anybody who’s seen his antics on Youtube knows what I’m talking about. Fucking crocoduck? Give me a break.

Too bad, so sad. No really. More gummi worms for me! No touchie!

  9. Kirk traded Boner for “Banana Man” Comfort years ago.

I used to figure Kirk was sincere enough, but I have the impression that Ray Comfort is a straight up hustler and doesn’t really believe what he preaches. Looks bad on Kirk hanging around that tool.

@ 97. – “How can Kirk’s comments be construed as capitalizing on the death of Boner?”
It sounds like he’s pushing his “way of the master” cow-flop more than showing any true concern for the Koenigs. I figure that’s the bulk of his business life right now, except for made for TV movies released in theaters, that Christians suffer through out of guilt.

    @ 104 – He does look messed up! @ 67

Whoa! Seems someone must’ve pissed in our supposed Fish’s Cheerios when he/she/it wrote the above.

    *

Odd. I’ve never come across this much venom in any other posts by this site about someone dying or killing themselves.

    *

Did you, Superficial blogger, get rejected by Andrew Koening or something? Why do you hate Koenig so much? Or is it that you hate the show Growing Pains and all who were on it? I never watched it myself, but have no ill feelings towards it or the cast.

    *

Maybe you were rejected in audition for the show by the producers or director of the show hence your irrational animosity?

    *

You might want to see a counselor for what ever’s buggin’ ya about Koenig and the cast of that show. Just sayin’.

    *

Ah! Perhaps our supposed Fish tried out for the role of Boner and lost out to Andrew hence this site’s writer’s irrational callous animosity regarding Koenig’s lifelong suffering from depression and suicide.

    @Rasputins Liver

Did you even read the “Article”???? The Superficial writer did not say anything about Koenigs death other than “Listen, what happened to Andrew Koenig was, no question, tragic for his family”….. He mainly only talked about how full of shit Kirk is… And I Totally agree with him…. Kirk is the poster boy for Dishonesty…. Go check out his site called Way of the master…. He only made his shallow little comments to the media instead of being in contact with the family… And the first thing he said to the media was ” At a time like this, we are all reminded of the briefness of life and the importance of being ready for our eternal destination,” that is not the very definition of a self serving statement.

  13. aaronzzz

That IS the very definition of a self serving statement!!!! I forgot to delete the not in there…..

I am not super religious, but I have gotten kind of tired of all the pot shots the writer has been taking at religion lately. I come to the site to read about crazy- a** celebs. I don’t come here for jokes (rants?) about personal beliefs. I don’t care, and I just don’t enjoy it. Boob jokes = fun; religion jokes = dull. If I want good jokes about religion, I am sure I can find a better site for that.

    superficial writer,
haven’t you used koenig’s death to push an agenda? don’t you blog about other people’s lives hoping to earn a buck (and apparently to bash other people’s spiritual beliefs).

and what has cameron done that approaches the level of your agenda-pushing? he didn’t even make a christian-specific comment. you read into it. a magazine reached out to him for a quote because he’s an obvious source for their story, and he gave them one. cameron didn’t push christianity even close to as hard as you pushed back on it.

i think you’re being hypocritical. how can you, as a blogger of celebrity gossip (an attention-seeking busybody), claim to be in a better position than cameron to comment on this topic?

    baffling.

    Wow,
Editor??? What is wrong??? You did not personally know this man or what form of relationship Cameron had w/ him behind closed doors then or now. To say no one cared about this man until now is beyond hurtful. You do not know the # of friend’s and family this man had in his life that cared about him. Because a person was on a show many years ago and has not been on mainstream tv or movies since then does not put a label on this man’s character and stating that in effect that was showing the amount of people that loved him in the real world… On another issue, Kirk is a devoted Christian NEVER captalizing on anyone’s death. You need to do your research. Kirk is not out for main stream movie roles. If any, they are Christian based to help others. He actually stepped down years ago while in the hight of his career while on “Growing Pains” show & re-focused his purpose in life & CHOSE to get out of mainstream Hollywood. This was NOT a case of a teen star loosing movie roles, HE chose this, he stepped out so he could step up ;-) He has no reason to seek publicity. For him; God, family and friends are his rewards in this life. A true happiness. It is what is important to him and what makes him a man and a truly sucessful human being. So, for some apparently hate, jealous or personal issue’s, you the author have taken a low blow attacking Kirk’s unconditional love and concern he had for someone who was a part of his life. His statement was un-promoting, personal and a genuine. Honestly praying for youu the editor, that your heart is softened and find true happiness in this life.

    May God Bless You,
    “A Christian”

  22. @ 118 – mike – I don’t think Superficial is cashing in under the scam guise of helping people.

I had the impression that Kirk was sincere until he got mixed up with Banana Man.

  23. Mark Maclean

The Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing.

The writer crucifies Kirk for caring about people. If Kirk hated people as much as the writer hates Kirk, he would not care about those who are perishing.

But Kirk has been there. He was an atheist. He was living in darkness. He was on the broad road to destruction. He has been saved, and is now helping others find truth. Those who hate you expect you to walk by burning buildings and do nothing to help those who are perishing.

Bless you Kirk, as you get spit on and persecuted by the ignorant for speaking truth. Thank you for your courage.

  24. Benny

No mention of this guy’s enormous five-head?

  25. yadig

I hate fake Christians, stop preaching the gospel.

  26. A Christian

    I completely agree with 121
Everyone else on here needs help. God Bless

  27. Chase Masters

I couldn’t disagree more, when they were searching for Andrew Kirk made a personal plea for him to come out of hiding and talk to him. In that plea he didn’t mention anything about his beliefs. You attack him simply because he was a Christian, and I believe the Fireproof movie did pretty well in theaters, so he’s hardly a has been. If he’s not relevant anymore then why do you bother posting about him? You should call Mr. Cameron and apologize, and then ask if he’ll pray with you…I bet he would….

  28. jok

    christians are stupid.

in fact, anyone who is religious is stupid.

    yes.
