Alec Baldwin leaves angry messages

April 20th, 2007 // 247 Comments

If you haven’t already heard it, this is the message Alec Baldwin left on his 11-year-old daughter’s voice mail. I don’t get what everybody’s making such a big deal over. This sounds like a pretty normal father daughter conversation. Although I am surprised he lets her out of the cage long enough to use a phone.

UPDATE: In the shocker of all shockers, Alec Baldwin has apologized for the message on his official site. Although it’s less of an apology and more of an self-justification. He writes:

“Thank you to everyone who has posted messages of suppport and understanding. Naturally, it is not best for a parent to lose their temper with their child. Everyone who knows me privately knows that I have endured a great deal over the last several years in my custody litigation.

Everyone who knows me privately knows that certain people will go to any lengths to embarass me and to disrupt my relationship with my daughter. In such public cases, your opponents attempt to take a picture of you on your worst day and insist that this is who you are as a person.

Outside the doors of divorce court, I have friends, I have respect from people I work with and I have a normal relationship with my daughter. All of that is threatened whenever one enters a court room.

Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child.

I’m sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child. I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. ( Although I hope you never do.)

I am sorry for what happened. But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case. Once my book is published, I’m sure more people will understand the incredible strains created by parental alienation.

In the meantime, I’m sorry to anyone who’s taken offense from this episode.”

First there’s the Virginia Tech massacre and then this happens.

  2. Avarice

    Give him a break.

My parents were divorced when I was 3, and I’ve been dealing with this sort of stuff my entire life. This sounds a LOT like my own father, except for the fact that my father didn’t care enough to actually be upset when I ignored his calls.

Because, yes, his “poor child” was making a conscious decision not to take his calls. You aren’t a baby at that age, and of course we look back and say “Wow, only 11,” but do you remember when you were 11, when you were 12? Sure, you weren’t world-wise, but you had your own mind, and you didn’t *feel* like a helpless little child.

If you haven’t been the child of divorce, or haven’t been in a divorce when you have children yourself, it would be nearly impossible for you to understand.. but divorced fathers can take one of two paths: they can turn into dead-beat dads, or they can care. Good for Alex Baldwin for caring this passionately about communicating with his daughter. He may have lost his temper, but I would rather have received this message then have had my father not bother connecting with me at all.

  3. Avarice

And sorry to post twice in a row, but when you think about it, it’s more likely that the parent in the wrong in this situation is Kim. She’s no doubt encouraging her daughter not to take his calls, because parents really do use their kids as pawns when taking out their frustration on their ex-spouses, which is exactly what he was talking about when he referred to parental alienation.. He lost his temper, yes, but there’s so much going on here that we aren’t seeing, and that most people haven’t experienced.

So again, good for him for cairng this much. One mean, frustrated phone message is worse than a lifetime of apathy.. it would be *worse* if his daughter ignoring their scheduled phone calls didn’t bother him at all.

  4. frenchie

202-203-sounds like you can relate; however, I’m not sure that having that around is any better than an absent father. Anyhow, both scenarios are bad and a sad commentary on the norm of modern families.

We don’t really know what role Kim plays in this, but Alec shouldn’t be talking about the mother like that, nor should he speak that way to his daughter! Whatever issues the ex-es have shouldn’t burden an 11 year old.

Don’t think that behavior is any better or more honorable than a dead-beat dad. He’s operating purely and completely out of similar juvenile reasons as a dead-beat dad. Guilt and denial. Neither takes ANY accountability but it translates in a different form.

  5. GG1000

What a jerk, honestly, but the worst part is where he says “I don’t care if you’re 12 years old or 11 years old or…” He doesn’t even know how old his own daughter is!! And you gotta love how he uses the fact he’s being interviewed about it to plug his upcoming book. Sometimes I wonder if it’s like the Stepford wives, except they replace humans in Hollywood with beings trained to seek public attention and nothing else. That poor, poor kid. I’d turn my phone off, too.

  6. velveethra

For god’s sake, she didn’t come home coked up or pregnant, she just didn’t answer the phone when her control freak abusive father called. My kid is nine and we’ve had our arguments, but I am an adult and can control my mouth to avoid scarring my child’s psyche for life. It’s not that difficult. Well, if you aren’t bloated and insane, I mean.

    @#200: I just did!

  7. mika85

i’d rather have a dead-beat dad over an abusive narcissistic asshat for a father any day.

and omg, i really feel bad for those who actually sympathize with this man. (if you can even call him that.) i’m sick to my stomach knowing that people actually think the child had it coming.

202-203: i was also 3 when my parents divorced. and let me tell you, my father “lost his temper” with me MANY times, but never once did he abuse me or insult my mother in front of me, especially for something as ridiculous as not answering a fucking phone.

  8. renee

#207, I’m not sympathising with this guy (not that much anyway) but it’s not like he insulted her mother in front of her, (just as your father didn’t) it was her mother that made the whole think public and exposed Ireland to Baldwin’s ranting. So basically, it’s obvious that his ex wife is more interested in making him look bad rather than protecting thier daughter from those upsetting words.

  9. Skip Smith

He should teach his daughter a lesson and rape her.

  10. SugaryCherry

Holy shit. I’d be so fucking pissed off if ANYBODY aired out my dirty laundry like that. Even if there is no excuse for what he did, it’s far from anything that the general public should hear. If his daughter brought this to the public’s attention, I hope she gets her just desserts. What a little brat.

  11. Let’s face it…the dad’s who really stick around to be a dad ,,usually ends up acting retarded ,like he did.. the other ones, they just leave.Alec,,you are an asshole..here’s some advice, coz I do like you sometimes. Don’t ever scream at your kid and if you want her to love you more, than change your behavior and do things completely different.. make yourself interesting to her.

  12. islandgirl

when ever there is little rich kids around they r usually rotten and they grow up to be rotten adults, look at paris, nicole and many others………..if they had someone to talk to them like that when they were 11 12 years old they would’nt be as fucked up as they r now ………..kids need to be straighten out ever now and then.

Every parent have a right to flip now and then it happens to the best of us.

  13. islandgirl

    #209 U SICK FUCK….U BELONG BEHIND BARS BETTER YET 6FT DOWN…U SONOFABITCH!!

  14. woodhorse

106 ~ over-react much?? and yes 211, he should be a doormat to whatever abusive nasty behavior Kim is teaching her to do. What is she 11 or 12? – so what, she is a dirt sandwich and if the courts don’t order her into a Psych Hospital, she’ll be the next Pete Doherty or Akon. They were 11 0r 12 once too.

  15. woodhorse

#207 deadbeat dads don’t come around. Kim has been making life hell for Alec since day 1 because she is nasty sick. He loves his child and that’s why he keeps trying to stay in her life – if he didn’t love her, why would he put up with that crap? Kim should have had Ireland with P.Diddy and he wouldn’t come around, just write the checks like she wants. And Ireland is a Pig for treating her Dad who loves her like that.

  16. cm

Mr.Baldwin needs huge doses of anger management training, therapy and a few meds wouldn’t hurt, either. This rageaholic crap messes your kid up badly. Grew up in a home with a parent like this, we had money but who cared, it was a miserable life to have a parent who couldn’t control their temper. Poor Ireland, and poor Kim Basinger for having to go through it all. It is evident in his eyes that he is an angry person. Too bad, so handsome but wow, so volatile.

  17. woodhorse

Barbado ~ white skirt it is! but, dammit! I can’t find my bra…. did I leave it at your house or in your car?

  18. Conky

Anybody who thinks this episode damaged the child in any way doesn’t understand this child was born fucked up when it had two celebs for parents.

It’s never gonna have a normal life… look at Chastity Bono. This Ireland kid will probably turn out to be a big fat crazy lezbo too, lol

  19. woodhorse

I just saw photos of KimPig and IrelandPig taken 2 days after the “phone call” on TMZ. (1)either Kim is extremely short or Ireland is a future basketball player: hence the confusion of 11 or 12 – I would have 17 (2)she’s not so pretty but seems to inherited her posterior from J Lo. She will probably have an acting career after all. (3) If she slips up and acts considerate, she can take Diva lessons from Mariah: they can afford it, they are using retail therapy at this time.

  20. Lowlands

This is one of the ways how dykes get created. This is the tribute of Alec Baldwin to mankind.

  21. Lowlands

I’ve better understanding for Rosie now.

  22. woodhorse

It’s because he’s white. White men are notoriously short tempered. My Dad was white and he used swear words quite a bit. And he was a Yankee which made it a lot worse. Fortunately, his children were also white so we survived. IrelandPig looks white so maybe she’ll come out OK. Oh – and Lowlands – quit calling me a dyke. Even though men get on my nerves sometimes I still have sex with them. Rosie is gay because she is fat. White women need a hot beef injection in order to stay slim (no pun intended Barbado).

  23. Lowlands

This sort of things can have happened to Rosie. But what must have happened to Danielle?Maybe even a bigger disaster?

  24. Leyna

    sigh @ 200

  25. woodhorse

223 – Danielle doesn’t lower herself to talk to me because I’m Anglo-American so I can only guess that her Dad was a Yankee as well. Her Dad may have been of the generation of Yankees that ate “head cheese” which is terribly fattening. I am guessing that her Yankee Dad fed the family head cheese and once Danielle got fat, it was easier to find girlfriends than boyfriends. Jrz may have more info about the 17 kids and welfare checks they talk about – again – Danielle won’t talk to me because I’m a caucasian.

  26. Lowlands

225)Being caucasian makes you euroasian, that’s from the midlle-easter region.

  27. woodhorse

True. But Danielle doesn’t talk to this euro-trash so I have many unanswered questions about her. Like, how many of her 17 kids are mixed? If they are over 50% Caucasion, don’t they have to pass over? What am I, chopped liver?

  28. wedgeone

meh. Lots of angst from the castrating cunts who want to eliminate fatherhood and rely on test tubes instead (but I bet they really hate the shapes). Baldwin’s her dad, he can say or do anything he wants to his daughter. That’s what being a dad means, regardless of what the braided-underarm-hair contingent writes in their angry-tuna blogging. I hope he did fly out there and spank her until her butt was beat red. Then flipped her over for an eternity of unlubed anal. A few days sitting on the inflatable shame donut at school would do her good.

  29. mika85

wedgeone: do tell…did your parents discipline you in that same manner you described? you really need to talk to a professional.

oh! and castrate yourself, for the sake of humanity. hell, i’m sure any of those cunts you speak of will gladly do it for you.

  30. MR. ALEC….SINCE MY MOMMIE (BRITTNEY SPEARS), DOESN’T LOVE ME AND MY BROTHER,,,,I DECIDED TO LET U BE OUR MMMOOOMMMIIIEEE…AT LEAST WHEN U YELL AT US,,I WILL KNOW THAT U CARE…. 31. Binky

The humor seems to be draining from this site.
Say something funny – then go
(if you want to talk – tell mom)

  32. Binky

Public at LARGE : Binky – you’re seeming a bit bitchy lately.
Binky : Well. Since Sanjaya didn’t exactly rock the White House reporters meeting – I’m beginning to question their priorities.

  33. Binky

    It’s a bit scarey

  34. moondoggy

I went to Mr Alecs website.

    Fuck, what a trainwreck.

There are the obsessive fans…Alec, we love you! Its okay!

And then there are the people who think like I do.

‘you are a disgusting , horrible father and actor and I wish you continued failure as a greasy C list actor.’

    Couldnt have said it better.

  35. DrPhowstus

I’m not reading all of this shit. Basically, I agree with everyone who said to shut the fuck up and let the dude parent, and I think everyone who questions his parental methods is either childless, has daddy issues, or has asshole kids that will be working for mine in about 20 years.

  36. DrPhowstus

@196 — Oh yeah, frenchie? I forgot to mention, your name alone renders your point moot. Fucking once a week bathing, Old Europe, terrorist placating, surrender monkey bitches.

  37. Hya Lou Zirz

“C list actor” you wish. Baldwin isn’t a major lead actor anymore, but he’s obviously A-list for supporting actor roles, especially when playing the bad guy. Bassinger, on the other hand, is retired from the D-list.

  38. wedgeone

#229 – I agree with every word you said, except that they need applied to MY FAGGOT TROLL who is spewing forth that venom and not to the real me.

Wally- you are pathetic. Everyone know that the phrase is “beet red” and not “beat red”. Now get off of my cloud.

I have absolutely no interest in this issue and posted no comment until now, after seeing wedgewannabe here babbling on wishing he were me. Stop it, homo! Just grow up.

  39. elf

what is the big deal? ive heard worse

  40. andres

    235 nailed it :)

  41. Shovelhead

Who knows what really went on. Little bitch probably deserved it. Alex, I am with you.

  42. He’s not as angry as the actor Trott Felipe, at the end of The Verge of Psychosis: An Aspiring Actor’s Journal. He almost gets revenge on all of Hollywood.

  43. mulva

A-B-C. A-always, B-be, C-closing. Always be closing! Always be closing!! A-I-D-A. Attention, interest, decision, action. Attention — do I have your attention? Interest — are you interested? I know you are because it’s fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks! Decision — have you made your decision for Christ?!! And action. A-I-D-A; get out there!! You got the prospects comin’ in; you think they came in to get out of the rain? Guy doesn’t walk on the lot unless he wants to buy. Sitting out there waiting to give you their money! Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it?

  44. anothershityear

#173 yes but she put her finger in my butt and would wiggle it wasn’t fair

    #239 absolutely true and agree
i think most people have not heard their own voices in daily life, and would be horrified at the useless and insensitive things said

K.B. is quietly psycho, A.B. is recorded reacting to it, and then he’s the one demonized – it takes two idiots to make this truly idiotic situation!

  45. MissAntithesis

Nice to see that Scientology makes people such stable and rational human beings. He and Cruise are such ringing endorsements, I’m going to go get audited right now.

  46. wisenheimer2u

My mom used to talk to me like this all the time, say even worse things (like “you’re a bitch and I await the day St. Peters tells you you’ll be spending the rest of eternity in hell”) and slap me. You’re probably expecting now that I’ll say what Alec did is not a big deal and that parents should straighten out their children more often. Nope. I HATED my mom for it; I’d hate her even if what Alec did was the only bad thing she ever said to me. I completely resented her existence. My parents were divorced and I mostly lived with my dad, and whenever she’d say “I love you” I wouldn’t say it back.

She thought that she had the right to call me whatever she wanted and that it was her inalienable right to “parent”, in order words, treat her daughter like a piece of shit to be intimidated and molded into whatever the fuck she wanted.

Parents are not inherently superior to their children. Alec Baldwin is an asshole. He deserves to be spit on and screamed at by every abused child that ever got treated like he treated his daughter. I’m sick of people thinking that a couple of basically random people deserve your respect for being too drunk to use a condom.

He hasn’t apologized at all. He basically said, “Alright, I’ll pretend I regret one word (pig) of that message in order to make people feel sorry for what I’ve been through (having an ex-wife who doesn’t kiss my pampered celebrity ass, and a daughter who rightfully follows suit), insult my ex-wife, plug my book, and get an ass-load of media attention.” He’s a worthless piece of shit, something you’d scrape off your shoe and be thoroughly disgusted with. I don’t even know him but I HATE him. Even typing this the bones of my fingers burn with rage.

Back to my mom. She died in a car crash last summer. The cops called at 3 am, woke up my dad and he came into my room and told me. My first thoughts were “Bitch deserved it. I’m glad she’s dead.” It’s been nine months now since she died and every day I thank the Lord for sparing me and the earth from one more day of her shit. It’s a good thing she was cremated and her ashes are 2000 miles away because if she was buried I’d spend every day dancing on her grave. I hope Alec Baldwin gets his just desserts too and his daughter can live in peace.

  47. yOUR MOM WILL PAY FOR WHAT SHE DID TO U!
